This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce in Hopkinsville, Ky., this 6th day of December, 1910. [10/31/86 JT''s note: It is assumed that [134] had two readings on the same day. The first reading at 4:00 p.m., the second at 4:30 p.m., with two versions of the second reading done by two different stenographers. All versions are included below in Text of Reading 134-2.]

Time of Reading 4:00 P. M.
1. LBC: Go over him carefully and thoroughly and tell us what his condition is now.
2. EC: He is getting over nervous; his whole building material is sluggish; forces are poor and he has had more trouble with his stomach. Stomach is smaller than natural size, produces a strain to his whole system. The body is becoming more emaciated, thin, weak, debilitated. He needs more water in this system.
3. We have some trouble above the diaphragm, at the lower end of the lungs, producing these pains through here at the upper end of the stomach and has produced lesions at the fifth, sixth and seventh dorsal vertebrae; as a result, we have a contraction of the walls of the stomach, also irritation of the esophagus, from the mouth to the stomach.
4. The nerve supply is, also, deficient; the nerve forces are low, also the nerve stimulation to the lung, the juices of the stomach and these also, enter the duodenum and are also sluggish; they should secrete enough into this stomach to produce digestive fluid to digest the food and rebuild this body; taking enough of different kinds of foods, as, Sugars, Starches, Meats and Carbon to build it up. Albumen, also.
5. We have the juices in this system sluggish, as a result of these nerve forces being sluggish; does not take enough nutrition into the body itself to sustain the whole system. This man has seen many moons and there is a lack of building material to renew the forces and it has begun to tell on the system. The respiratory system is weak, in consequence, the capillaries are weak, hence, emaciation of the whole body.
6. We have a different condition from what we had before; there is a loss of resistance in this body; an overstimulation to the stomach and also, in the small intestines, as a result, of which we have a lack of juices.
134-2 Page 2
This is the secondary action of the stimulation or rather the reaction, resulting from overstimulation. The glands are not throwing out a proper amount of secretion, as a result, they have become impacted. We have an overaction of the kidney, also, an overstimulation of the liver.
7. We have not expanded this stomach enough with water; we need more water and more elimination of excreta from this body. We have had a strain in this body, as a result of this purging, which has resulted in this contracted condition of the walls of the stomach. They need more building material; they are hungry all the time, so to speak; he wants to eat but he cannot eat, it hurts and produces reflex pains to the head; makes him sick all over, produces this nauseating and dizzy head, pains in the back; this tired feeling in the limbs and all over the whole system, at times.
8. We need more volume in this stomach; this will help bring this stomach back to the condition of normal. This must come without excitement or stimulation. This stimulation can probably be brought about mildly by the addition of a little Claret to bring about stimulation, also, using plenty of water to help cleanse the stomach and intestines.
9. This system must be thoroughly relaxed and given plenty of rest and as much exercise only as requisite to make him feel good but not over exercise the body and it will improve. Do not overfeed but chew well what is taken into it. The peptone that he eats and digests will help build up the body. It may also, be stimulated by a mild dose of turpentine two or three occasionally to help eliminate and be very prudent as changes come. If the mastication is perfect and digestion is better this system will soon improve and as the food passes along the direct assimilation will be better, in consequence of which we should get more force and more life out of what is taken into it, then by taking more water into the stomach the juices of the body will come back to normal and results should come. [The following paragraphs 10-A through 14-A are from the 4:30 p.m. reading. It appears to be the same information as above, but apparently questions were copied separately.]
10. (Q) You are now asleep and will be able to tell us what we want to know. You have before you Mr. [134], ..., Ky. (A) Mr. [134], ..., Ky.
11. (Q) He is before you now, you will see him. (A) Yes we have him here. We have had him before.
12. (Q) Yes. Go over him carefully and examine him thoroughly and tell us what his condition is now. (A) Not so good as he was before. Kinder getting on his

nerves; they have been strained with the lacking of the whole system of the rebuilding forces in this system. He has had trouble with the stomach - digestion. The stomach is all swiveled up; much smaller than natural size, produced a strain over the whole system. The body has become emaciated, thin, weak dilapidated all over, the outward frame of the system. No surplus flesh, no surplus matter in this system, it has been used up by the system. We have some troubles above the diaphragm at the lower end of the lungs, producing these pains here through the stomach (upper end), where the lesion is formed at the fifth to the sixth and seventh dorsal. We have a contraction of the walls of the stomach all over. The internal tract of the stomach is formed - first, entering into the stomach here, you see, from the esophagus, where it is taken into the mouth and passes down into the stomach; the upper end comes in contact with the solar plexus system and nerve supply of the whole system. Same thing in contact with the nerve forces and supply that govern the air chambers of the lung to the whole system. We have the lower end (the cardiac end) emptying out into the duodenum the juices of the liver and the juices of the stomach, it should secrete enough into the system to produce the juices needed into the system for rest of the body to rebuild the whole body, taking enough into the system of different kinds of foods, such as, Sugar, Starches, Meats, Charcoal and Carbon. We have the juices in this system - into the stomach - are secreted there, then it is supplied back and forth by itself from the juices of the stomach gathering from the rest of the system; this forces it to secrete this enough to sustain the whole system as long as there is life; it is kept intact by the rest of the body. The rebuilding of the whole system as it builds up - he is up in years, he has seen many moons - this passed and we have a lack of material to renew the forces and it begins to tell in the rest of the system. With the lack of digestion of the nutriment, of things taken into the system has produced reflexes of the rest of the system, though they have been kept intact awhile by the open air and the respiratory system. But now we have the respiratory system is weak; the capillaries are weak, hence, emaciation of the body. The overfeeding and the overtaking up of the lymphatics

produces this condition we have different from what we have had - just losing resistance. We have overstimulated the stomach to act until we have produced to the lower intestinal tract (before we enter the colon), we have produced a lackness of the nutriment or the juices that creates along the walls of the intestines, that is throwing out from the stomach enough to carry these forces, until they have become impacted and we have an overaction from the kidneys and an overaction from the liver. We have not expanded the stomach enough with the water, we have had no dirt and we need both.
13. (Q) What form of dirt should that be? (A) Dirt. Here we have here into the system or into the stomach here, speaking now of the digestive system of the body of [134] into this stomach we have had a straining, purging, from excitement until we have rolled the walls up until they have contracted hunger all the time; he wants to eat, he cannot eat; it hurts, produces pains to the head, sick all over; produces all this nauseating and dizzy in the head and pains in the back, in the limbs and all over the whole system, at times, until we have drawn the whole system up. We need dross into the stomach so it passes off with these articles or particles of the system. We are of earth; we need dirt to have a normal condition of the stomach. We need something to tone up the stomach, without excitement or stimulation. If we put a stimulant there it would be better if we had Claret Water after thoroughly washing the stomach, also, a little dirt - a little sand - not enough sand to produce a stopping of the secretions along the smaller intestines - dirt - earth - sand. Produce a drawing which will expand the walls of the intestines, of the stomach in itself and thoroughly relax the system and plenty of rest and as much exercise as possible, without overexercising the body, and it ought to improve.
14. (Q) Any other treatment? (A) Do not feed too much but well masticate what is taken into it. Use peptone and if what he takes in is hard to digest add Turp. Follow along prudently as the change comes. Strain thoroughly what is into the stomach until the stomach masticates everything taken in, not being passed out to the rest of the system without being thoroughly used by the stomach, which we have when we stimulate the stomach and have it carried out by force. We can purge the stomach in a normal condition and the juices will come back normally but here it is different.

[The following paragraphs 15 through 16-A is the second version of the 4:30 p.m. reading apparently taken down by another steno.]
15. EC: Mr. [134], ..., Ky, yes we have him here. We have had him before.
16. (Q) Go over his body carefully and examine him thoroughly and tell us what his condition is now. (A) Not so good in general as it was before. His nerves have been strained we have a lack of force to the whole system; that is, a lack of rebuilding force in this system. He has had renewed trouble with the stomach with digestion. The stomach has all shriveled up, it is much smaller than natural size and produced a strain to the whole system. The body has become emaciated, thin, weak, dilapidated all over the outward frame of whole system; he has no surplus flesh, no surplus matter in this system, it has all been used up by the system. We have some troubles above the diaphragm, at the lower end of the lung, which produced these pains we have at times. We, also, have lesions formed at the fifth, sixth and seventh dorsal. We have, also, a contraction of the walls of the stomach, which is abnormal. The stomach here at the cardiac end or where the esophagus enters the stomach, is considerably shrunken; that is, the muscular walls are not up to normal. The nerve supply is, also, sluggish; the nerve supply of the whole system to the air chambers or air cells in the lungs, are sluggish. There is a sluggish condition at the lower end of the stomach also, at the duodenum, where the juices of the liver empty into the intestinal tract. We should have enough building material taken into this system to maintain the equilibrium, such as - Sugars, Starches, Meats and carbons. We have some juices in this system, in this stomach, that is carried back again and again from the rest of the system, from the lymphatic circulation. The rebuilding of the whole system will necessarily be slow as he has seen many moons and, consequently, the reaction is not as vigorous, along with the lack of building material to renew the forces; it soon begins to tell on the rest of the system. The respiratory system is weak; the capillaries are weak, hence, emaciation of the body. The overfeeding and the
134-2 Page 6
overtaking up of the lymphatics have produced a condition a little different from what we had the first time. There is a loss of resistance; we have overstimulated the stomach, in consequence of which, it has effected the lower intestinal tract somewhat, that is, the ileum. We have produced a sluggishment of nutriment or a sluggish condition of the walls of the intestines, in consequence of which, we have an impacted condition, at times, which results in the overstimulation of the kidneys and puts more work on the liver to relieve. We have not expanded the stomach enough with water and we have not had volume in this stomach; that is, volume of dirt in this stomach. The digestive system of this body has been such overstrained, due to this purging in the past from excitement, until the muscle walls are contracted and he is hungry all the time or has a tendency to be; he wants to eat but he cannot eat, it hurts and then we have the referred pains in the head, sick all over, nausea and pains in the back, dizzy in the head. We need more elimination; we need more volume in the stomach, so that it passes off these articles or particles to the system; it will bring a more normal condition of the stomach. We need something to tone up this stomach, without excitement or stimulation. We need a stimulant there that will act gently, somewhat like Clary Water. He, also, needs along with this a little Calcium and sand in this system to produce an action on the small intestines; this will expend the walls of the intestines and of the stomach itself and thoroughly relax the system; this, followed by plenty of rest and as much exercise as possible without overexercising the body, then it ought to improve. We don't want to feed too much but masticate well what is taken into this body. Use peptones and peptonoids freely and if what he taken in is hard to digest and needs a little stimulation use small doses of Turpentine, this may be necessary. Follow along and change as change in the system occurs. Everything that is taken into this stomach should be thoroughly masticated, that is, chewed very fine, as nothing should be passed to the rest of the system until it has been thoroughly used up by the stomach; that is, the digestive function should be carried on principally in the stomach; then the force in the stomach will be increased, due to more
134-2 Page 7
work pressed on it. We can purge the stomach in a normal condition but the juices will come back normal but here it is different. .
