This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 W. 35th Street, Va. Beach, Va., this 5th day of March, 1929, in accordance with request made by the husband, Mr. [137], and by the brother-in-law, Mr. [900] who conducted the reading.

1. [900]: Now you will have before you the body of [140] of New York City, and of [137] of New York City, and of [136] in New Orleans, and [900] present in this room. You will have before you these four. You will answer the questions I will ask you regarding these four, first interpreting the dream that [140] had on the night of February 2nd or 3rd, and then answer the questions regarding any of these four that I will ask you.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind [140], and the dream as experienced by the body as respecting conditions existent with the physical forces of the body concerning offspring at this period. In this, as there is seen by the body - and the experience through which the body passed in the vision, of seeing one demented through that condition as brought about in this offspring, bringing physically and mentally in vision, and in the consciousness of fear to the body.
3. This then is a portion of warning as has been GIVEN the body concerning such conditions, after passing through such periods or experiences, and these - correlated with this experience - would give the body that understanding that, until there is change in the mental attitude and in the physical conditions of the body, there could NOT be the attraction as would bring other than that that would bring consternation, worry. Yet there is the desire from within self, as well as of the companion, for those of the forces to give to the union more of the force as may be manifested and experienced in the material plane of others; yet under the existent conditions these would NOT be well.
4. Rather, then, that EACH in their individual way and manner prepare selves that, should this come about, there may be brought into being the desire of THEIR hearts - for, as has been given, in the bearing of children will the body be blessed, though the serpent may appear in the form of fear, or of consternation, yet this fear, this

consternation, may be disseminated even as was given, "Get thee behind me Satan - for thou savorest the things of the world, but I will seek the face of God." Ready for questions.
5. (Q) Is the obstacle chiefly in [140]'s mental and physical, or in both? (A) CHIEFLY in [140]'s mental and physical, but in both. Fear of the outcome of the conditions on account of that as has been PHYSICALLY experienced by the body through such travail, and travails, and through warnings as have been MATERIALLY received. These may be overcome in each, in and through their respective ways of development toward the better understanding of those laws as govern not only the physical condition of the being or body bringing into existence such conditions, but the understanding of the SPIRITUAL laws GOVERNING such. Law, in this sense, not that as a common version of "Do this," or "Do that," and "The penalty is the result," but rather that rule through which a more perfect understanding OF the rule, or the law, is gained.
6. (Q) Do the fear vibrations chiefly affect the physical form of the embryo? or do they likewise form an attraction or affinity influence on the incoming cosmic entity? (A) Both; for like attracts like, and fear bringeth on doubt, and doubt in ITS inception brings the doubter of the ability of that to carry on, see? that is, just such as is seen, that with the body would come that of not the perfect MENTAL balance - which is, in its first analyses, DOUBT - see?
7. (Q) Is the physical obstacle also present? (A) Also present in the body at the present time. TIME, as known, may be a factor in removing these conditions. Not well that any who has recently (and recently meaning three to five years) undergone such an experience of the perfect subjugation of all the abilities of functioning forces, and then conceive. [GD's note: In May 1928 she had a mastoid operation.]
8. (Q) The thing to do as respect to the physical trouble then is to let the time element play its part? (A) And gain an UNDERSTANDING of the laws (or love) concerning conception and the rule of same.
9. (Q) Now the subject of insanity at birth here spoken of as respecting the spiritual entity, does this mean that the spirit attracted would be one of a like-weakened by doubt character? (A) One weakened by a doubt character in self and seeking also strength and an UNDERSTANDING of doubt through those that MAY MAKE themselves strong. Consider in this statement

the information as has been given concerning the ABILITY of these two [[140] & [137]] bodies, in the ability through the manner of their INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT to attract force, power, emanation, and the higher vibrations even in the material plane. For through such an understanding and through such an illustration (if we may be pardoned in using this as such) there may come the more PERFECT knowledge of how like attracts like, when there is a soul entering in the mundane sphere. Do NOT get that mistaken IDEA in the first place of the SPIRIT being other than life. The SOUL OF AN entity seeking, and yet attracted by even that it seeks in both the weaker and stronger moments of those bringing such into existence.
10. (Q) Dr. S. once spoke to [140] regarding this. He knew her physical condition - (A) And gave warnings as concerning same, and has also been much of the guiding factor in some conditions and experiences THROUGH which the body has passed concerning just such condition. For there arose in times past the condition wherein conception would have brought to the body a DIFFERENT condition entirely, yet having passed through the experience of this has left the body weakened in self by subjugation of physical narcotics - that is, subjugation of the body for the purpose OF removing tissue here, see? This, then, has left still doubt within self, and then through physical ills this has unfitted the body temporarily.
