Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., Fla. (Body and enquiring mind, who desires information regarding the disposition or development of an ignition switch for which he has been issued letters patent. Questions.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind, those situations and conditions.

2. As we find, these are existent conditions: The letter of patent has caused inquiry from some sources that are interested not so much in the patent as to what sort or kind of disposition is made of same; for these have two sources of outlet - the two inquiries that have come. One for the using of the ideas as presented for use in their OWN relations. The other rather the sending out of information to those in direct contact with distributing points for such new developments in the varied activities of this field as required.

3. Hence the field in the present, as we find, may be said to be entirely open. As indicated, the patent and the qualifications of that patent are worth while. While this would require a little addition in the manner or way of the arrangements for the dashboard in the ordinary car, this would be of value to the OWNER of such an arrangement on or in car.

4. Now, there are two distinct ways and manners in which this - or any arrangement of this particular nature - may be handled. Through trade agents who make a specialty in their associations and connections of presenting or making such arrangements with the varied manufacturers or research laboratories OF manufacturers for the improvements of various kinds. This, then, in this same field is being looked after by one of the inquiries. Then the other direction is taking same directly to the research laboratories for their serious consideration.

5. As we find, there are two outlets that might be the ones for serious consideration. These we would make through the proper channels, the direct contact with those who are the

head of the research organizations in the varied manufacturers - or the two manufacturers we would present, see? The first would be General Motors, and to him who was the patentee of the self-starter, and who STILL considers self as a vice-president and as the head of the research department for varied gadgets or combinations that might be installed in one or more of their own products. This would be sent, then, to the research laboratory at Dayton, Ohio, see - and the name is that one who IS the patentee OF the starter, you see.

6. The other to the Chrysler group, and to Walter P. Chrysler himself would this inquiry be made.

7. That is, the patent is safe. These individuals - in direct contact - will either say yes or no. And if it requires that there be any further changes in same, they in their capacity of the experimenter would work WITH the inventor to make same adaptable to their own product, see? Kettering in General Motors. Chrysler in the Chrysler Association. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) Is the device practical for use on an automobile? (A) The device is practical.

9. (Q) Briefly, what advantages does it have over the ordinary key ignition switch? (A) Prevents the combination being used, or prevents the stealing of the car.

10. (Q) What disposition should [228] make of his patent? (A) As indicated, through either of these channels.

11. (Q) Would it be advantageous for [228] to sell this patent to a manufacturer of electrical equipment or to an automobile manufacturer? (A) Automobile manufacturer, as indicated; and either of these two channels. Go to the individuals direct.

12. (Q) One at a time or both? (A) Send it both at once, and tell them that it is being offered.

13. (Q) What is the name and address of a manufacturer who would buy this patent readily on a satisfactory basis, either cash, royalty or both? (A) As indicated, these have been given - here are two that would consider it. See, one would be considered for one of the products - or on the Chevrolet by the General Motors, while in the Chrysler would be considered in BOTH the Chrysler and the other makes made by the same organization also.

14. (Q) How and when should the primary approach be made to this manufacturer? (A) Immediately. So that it may be ready for the next

season's presentation as a part of the equipment on the machines!

15. (Q) What course should then be taken by [228]? (A) That will have to be worked out.

16. (Q) What price or arrangement should [228] ask the manufacturer for the patent? (A) This should be made first within self's own mind, either that it would be sold outright or the manufacturer in the use of each one would pay so much for the use - $0.25 or such a matter, and they do all the work, you see. But outright should be the better, and - as we find - something like $15,000 to $25,000 to $35,000.

17. (Q) Should one of the photoline blueprints now in the custody of [228] be submitted to such manufacturer? (A) All the whole outlet should be submitted.

18. (Q) What additional information should be submitted with such blueprint? (A) That it is, that it can be worked out, or that he will meet with their research men and work out same for the adapting of same to their own products.

19. (Q) Would a change in the device be advisable? (A) We wouldn't change anything in the present, until we were adapting it to the needs in the various types of the cars - and then this would be worked out in their laboratory.

20. We are through for the present. Copy to Self " " Ass'n File
