1. EC: We have the body here - this we have had before.
2. Now, we find in the physical forces of the body there are many conditions contributing to those that cause distress through the physical functioning of the organs of the body. Much of this is caused by mental and physical overtaxation, yet there are specific conditions with the functioning of organs that if corrected would bring a better response and a more normal condition throughout the physical forces.
3. The body is very good in many respects, yet, as given, many things contribute to distresses produced throughout the system at times; while at present the body is very good save a tired, rather distressed condition in the manner of the eliminations - that have been overtaxed in some directions to the distress of others.
4. These, then, are conditions as we find existent at the present time with this body, [243] we are speaking of. First:
5. IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, we find this somewhat above normal in pressure. The constituents or elements in the blood stream proper show the effect of conditions contributed to the forces of the blood supply, that contribute to this distress produced in pressure through the action of the heart itself. It is not an organic condition of the heart; rather it is an overstimulation to the nerve centers that control the circulation, especially that above the diaphragm, causing this fullness in throat, lungs, and the organs of the sensory system at times. It produces also rather the overtaxation of the sympathetic system above the diaphragm, or preferably we would say above the 8th and 9th dorsal, upward. Hence the chilly sensations that come or appear along the spine when the body sits down to rest at times, or there is the effect of any undue condition that appears to impulse of suffering in other individuals. In the contributing of this condition to the blood pressure we see, then, this is not an organic condition; rather a reflex sympathetic condition, which may be reduced by the
243-7 Page 2
correction of those impulses radiating from centers that have to do with these portions of the body.
6. These corrections should be made by manipulation osteopathically given, for THESE manipulations will - with the general condition to be met, and specific in others - bring about the better manner of full coordination in the system.
7. It would be well, if possible, for the body to rest some two to three weeks while such conditions as these - and others to be met - are being corrected in the system.
8. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, we find many centers radiating inactivity, or overactivity, one radiating from one direction, or in one direction, another in another direction. An over-sympathetic supply is seen in the radiation of those plexuses especially in secondary cardiac, in the brachial, in the 5th, 4th and 3rd cervical, which gives that reaction of distresses often through the lower portion of the body, by the inactivity of the circulation proper through the lower portion of the body. Hence those chilly sensations, as has just been shown.
9. In the centers about the lower portion of the lumbar and upper sacral we have another form of nerve congestion; not involving wholly the sympathetic, but also the cerebrospinal radiation to the lower limbs and, in fact, to what may be termed locomotary centers. In this sense it is not wholly to the locomotaries to the lower portion, but locomotaries in the sense of all reflexes from a coordination of sympathetic and cerebrospinal nerve impulse.
10. This is being given from that fact that all impulse to activity is of a centered or conscious action of nerve impulse before muscular reaction takes place, whether of the voluntary or involuntary action of the body.
11. Hence it may be seen here, from this careful analysis of this condition, why any condition that appears to the body, from that of impulse toward any distress, finds a ready response in the activity of this body's reacting to same. For the body in its NATURAL sense is psychic. In its own nature and IN its reaction it is of a psycho-psychic condition, produced at and with such impulse.
12. IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS THEMSELVES, we find, from those conditions as given, those radiations of varying degrees, dependent upon the cycle of activity of the organ thus involved, from the radiation of the center from which it IS involved. As we see, each portion, or each organ, functions in its OWN nature, and in its activity or correlated activity with the body as a whole.
13. In the throat, eye, ear, nose, lungs - these are very
243-7 Page 3
good, save sympathetically; cold, congestion, and conditions of that nature affecting the system from time to time.
14. In the heart's action we find that as has been given, a radiated condition producing pressure, yet not an organic but of a sympathetic nerve reaction.
15. Digestive system shows this same condition which exists sympathetically. Especially to this body there should not be food taken when the body is overwrought in any manner, whether of highstrung conditions or that of wrath, or of depressions of any nature. Food should not be taken in the system at such times; preferably take water, or buttermilk - NEVER sweet milk under such conditions.
16. In the digestion we find the seat of those conditions produced that cause distress through the elimination. Hence we find an unbalanced elimination, producing drosses left in the system through non-elimination. This incoordination of the eliminating centers brings the distresses in the form of that tie-up, or a pressure produced in various portions of the body. Such is found from the brachial, or from the locomotaries in the lower portion of the system, or from other portions of the body - as arm, face, or lower limbs, or side, or any portion that the pressure may indicate through the condition produced by same. In whatever position the cycle of the functioning organ thus involved becomes enmeshed or entangled, in its distribution or eliminating portion of the body, we find such effects; as seen in the eliminating centers through the pulmonaries, or the dioxide as thrown off through exhalation; the capillary circulation, which - with these existent conditions as seen, by the congestion that passes along the spine in the sympathetic system - brings very poor capillary circulation at times. Although the feet, the hands at times, apparently are throwing off through the capillaries, yet this in itself, as seen, is an unbalanced circulation.
17. The blood is not flowing properly from the system between the venous and vein circulation, or arterial - venous from the vein, or arterial to the vein circulation. Hence we find that in the extremities mostly do the conditions appear, where pains, or tie-ups, are seen; and especially is this seen in lymphatic centers.
18. Here we would have, then, that condition shown in what exists between blood stream, or blood circulation, and lymphatic circulation.
19. The lymph we find being the secretions of the body that oil or supply elasticity to the whole system, in its activity in any functioning organ of the body. When there is a lack of this, distress or distraughtness comes to the
243-7 Page 4
portion thus affected. Not so much that the body is carrying poisons back, though it is that of an ash - or non-elimination, but there is the lack of sufficient lymph to carry on through that center - by the hindered capillary circulation.
20. In this action, then, we find the condition produces that tendency towards constipation in the hepatic circulation, or again lack of lymph to carry on proper incentives from those centers from which there is carried on the radiation of activity.
21. There is congestion, then, in the liver. The kidneys become involved by too much being thrown on the kidneys to eliminate. Hence, whenever there is scarcity of the secretions through the secreting system, we have these distresses appearing through the lower portion of the back, or along that same region in which there is the tie-up in cerebrospinal as well as sympathetic system, and pains across the back, through the right and left sides. Each of these shows that all of the system, attempting to come to the aid of the body in its attempt to eliminate, produces distresses on the body. It is not an organic condition, though - without correction - it may become so; that is:
22. Just as a comparison - of a poor nature, but - a rotten apple left in a barrel may make all of these rotten; yet no matter how many sound ones are put about it, the rotten one will never be made sound.
23. Here we have the same condition. If a cell is left in the system that should be eliminated, or if it IS of that condition of inactivity, then all the cells gathered about it cannot heal that cell. It MUST produce sufficient of the lymph, or leukocyte, that condition which will gather about it and move it out of the system, to let the new supply take its place!
24. Hence we have that called coagulation, or incoordination, producing distresses from a bad coordinating elimination in a body. This condition exists thus in this body, [243].
25. TO MEET THE NEEDS, THEN, OF THESE CONDITIONS, we would add those properties which will in their nature bring about the eliminations, necessarily coordinated in their regular order. These will be met by meeting the needs of the conditions as thus described, and as given to meet those of a specific nature, then these for these specific conditions added with same.
26. When manipulations are given for that correction in the cerebrospinal system and in the sympathetic system, these also about the liver and the spleen should be manipulated
243-7 Page 5
properly to give the proper incentive for the constant activity to bring about present reaction. By present reaction we mean the condition constantly meeting the needs of the system, see?
27. Then begin taking internally as much Olive Oil as the system will absorb. Begin with half a teaspoonful. Increase this until at least two to four, to five TABLESPOONFULS may be taken at a dose. And let this be taken EVERY day, see? preferably in evenings.
28. In mornings, before there is food taken, take those properties of Occy-Crystine, in the double portion of water; that is, a teaspoonful to three tumblers of water, and drink them all at once! See?
29. Then, added to these, we would at least once each week take a Turkish bath; not as of cleansing, other than that the capillary circulation must be aroused. Well that the Swedish massage be taken at the same time, or following these the osteopathic manipulation may be given.
30. With these followed properly, we find that the system will be brought to a NORMAL condition.
31. Keep the diet away from meats, especially of hog meats - though the juices from same may be taken, but not the meats.
32. Do that.
33. (Q) About how many of the osteopathic treatments should she take? (A) About eight to ten.
34. That will be all the questions.
35. We are through with this reading.
