Time of Reading 4:20 to 5:00 P. M.
1. GC: You will have before you the work of Edgar Cayce, present in this room, and its study and presentation through the Association for Research & Enlightenment, Inc. As indicated through past readings it is well to seek from time to time guidance in developing and carrying forward this work. You will give for the Trustees and members assembled here such counsel and specific direction for the further expansion of the work and enlightenment of its members, and definite program for 1937 and 1938. Questions.
2. EC: Yes, we have the psychic work of Edgar Cayce with the trustees and members present of the Association for Research and Enlightenment; with its ideals and purposes for presenting such phenomena.
3. As has been indicated to each member, to each trustee, there must first be that evidence within self that would justify that such a work, such phenomena, is worthy of being presented; or that those tenets or suggestions given are worthy of acceptation and to be applied in the lives of themselves as individuals and as a helpful experience in the lives of others.
4. Most here have experienced in one manner or another such as has prompted them in their search for truth, knowledge and understanding, to seek through such channels.
5. In the affairs of man in this as well as in other lands there are these indications of a search through such channels for a greater awakening, that as would give a greater unfoldment in the experiences of individuals, masses, groups. These indications are evidenced by interests that have been and are manifested upon every quarter.
6. Then, as for a program upon which this Association may base definite activities in the coming season or year:
7. There has been evinced here and there interest by individuals that are in the position to make for the greater
254-96 Page 2
associations with groups and masses; as physicians, as writers, as those in the various channels of activity.
8. Then, the first step is to bring, through a concerted activity, definite proofs, definite experiences in the lives of such that they, too, through the channels that are being opened, may join with the members, the trustees, the officers of the Association, in presenting that which has been found in their own individual experiences as worthy of being presented to others.
9. Also an interest has been evinced by some of the associates in the universities. These have in part shown lack of definite interests, yet these must of necessity be carried forward in such measures or such manners as to prove to selves as well as to others that there is that which may be used, may be applied, in the various phases of activities for the presenting of same in definite ways and manners.
10. As to the physicians, these should be not of any ONE school but ALL should be considered. For is not each man as precious in the sight of the Maker as another? Has any one individual as a man presented the whole truth in such measures that there has not someone found fault with the manner of presenting?
11. Then keep in that way that has always been given, that is the law, from the very beginning: first the individual, then the group, then the classes, then the masses.
12. Also, as given, there are interests manifested by the authors or writers. These include not only articles - as theses, definite statements, definite truths - but those channels that may be reached by using these as a basis for serials of one character and another.
13. All of these should be approached first as proof to the individual that there has been something that has answered to the self within, for "My spirit beareth witness with thy spirit" must ever be the answer that would motivate an individual in presenting any truth, any suggestion even, that might be presented through any source.
14. To many there immediately is this question: "From what source arises this that we are hearing now, through such a channel? This is nothing new, nothing that we have not known!"
15. Yet have ye lived it in thine own life day by day? If ye HAVE ye have CONQUERED THYSELF!
16. And who present may say they have?
17. Then, the source is the universal consciousness that must be tapped that thy spirit, thy portion (if ye choose such) of that infinite love, may seek to know the heart, the will of thy Maker!

18. Ready for questions.
19. (Q) What should be done now that will lead to the development of a constructive program with universities interested in psychical research? (A) As has been indicated, choose individuals that are willing to have an experience in such WITH THEMSELVES! For until the answer of the validity of any information that may be of a psychic nature touches the OWN INDIVIDUAL SELF, there is not the knowledge that it is thy own or worth while! Not as a mass, not as a group, but - as given - first it must be individual. Then when such have had an INDIVIDUAL experience, they know whereof and how and why such should be sustained; or proclaimed.
20. (Q) Would it be wise to contemplate the presentation of any phase or phases of the work by radio? If so, just what phase should be developed first and what would you advise as to the nature of the program? (A) Not in the present; until there has been definite personal EXPERIENCE with such an association or connection; and then the phase to be presented would be vocational guidance. Not that of healing, or advice but VOCATIONAL guidance!
21. (Q) Would John Bates, Jr., be the most sympathetic channel through which this may be presented? (A) Convinced in self, a sympathetic channel; but he has not been convinced - as yet!
22. (Q) Are there any contacts that should be made, or any changes in our present efforts that would lead to more sympathetic cooperation with physicians of all schools, with the ultimate goal of making some contributions to medical research? (A) Just as has been given, there are those of different schools that have been interested and have evinced interest. These taken as individuals must be given that experience in which there is convincing evidence that help, hope, faith and understanding has been their individual experience. And as these evincing interest are shown, these will interest and will call on others in their RESPECTIVE spheres of activity. No one should be attempted to be coerced. No one should be sought. But EVERYONE should be given the opportunity that would sincerely seek. They MUST be those that are seeking for something within THEMSELVES, and NOT for a fault!
254-96 Page 4
For how has it been given? They that would believe must believe that God IS! And if they do not, don't ask them to look at their own souls - for they are NOT beautiful!
23. (Q) Regarding the contacts that have been made, what is next move with Duke or Columbia? (A) That anyone evincing an interest be asked to have a personal experience with same. Just as there are in the Columbia association more than one channel through which there may be interest aroused, in connection with juvenile education, juvenile education [or] juvenile activities that are of the EXCEPTIONAL nature, juvenile activities that are of those in the routine. All of these may be approached for consideration and receive considerations by the individuals that head such departments in this institution or organization.
24. (Q) What would be advisable regarding group study of the Association work, especially in the New York area? (A) That any phase of the activities that may be presented through such work or phenomena be chosen by one, two, three, four, five or even to ten; but do not attempt larger groups. These may seek for information of a definite nature. In WHATEVER branch it may seek, SOMETHING may be given - if they are of one purpose, one mind.
25. (Q) Is this the proper time for Mr. Cayce to meet and present the work to editor of the Reader's Digest? (A) As has been indicated, members of the Association are in contact with editors, with writers, with publishers that have shown or do show or evince an interest in such experiments. Then ask or seek that they, THEMSELVES, seek to have an experience! And those that accept, give of the service to them - not for proofs, but for help!
26. (Q) What can we do that will contribute to breaking down the prejudice to psychic subjects in the minds of editors and publishers? (A) Choose individuals that evince the interest and give them an EXPERIENCE! It MUST be first the individual, THEN the groups, the classes, the masses.
27. (Q) Who can be approached among the modern educators who would advocate the Life Readings for guidance of children? (A) As has been indicated, as we find, the activities in Columbia are the nearer in approach to such. One, two, three individuals may be chosen and thus through those very activities - as may be shown - break down prejudices in seeking as well as convincing the activities of such groups for definite work or purposes.
254-96 Page 5
28. (Q) Should the readings be given for the individuals or for the children whom they would suggest? (A) First the professor, the teacher must be convinced that such is plausible, possible - by personal experiences. Then as they choose individuals, children, or those that may be chosen by activities in regular research may be presented to such as have been convinced; and thus bring a union of purpose.
29. (Q) What specific field would be the most open? (A) This would depend upon the individuals that are approached! The most SPECIFIC field open, to be sure, is the PHYSICAL reading. The BROADER field is the Vocational Guidance, as indicated.
30. (Q) Would Joseph Hoffman be a good person to approach? (A) Be an excellent person to approach, for first self's experience and then an aid for someone with those abilities to receive that aid or help that might be given through such a channel.
31. (Q) On vocational guidance, what agency or individual most open and worth while in New York? (A) This may depend upon the approach, and the manner of approach.
32. (Q) May the names of the individuals whom should be approached at Columbia be given? (A) Any of those that are interested in the child training, especially in the delinquent or the training of the prodigy.
33. (Q) Would Dr. Will Taylor of Columbia be a good person? (A) His mind's already closed! Not very good for such an approach as this!
34. (Q) Would Alfred McCosker, head of WOR, be a good one to approach? (A) Very good one on ANY phase of the subject, so long as there is FIRST NOT ASKED TO GIVE SOMETHING OTHER THAN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!
35. (Q) Jack Strauss of R. H. Macy, owners of WOR? (A) Not so well.
36. (Q) Frank Bibb, piano accompanist? (A) VERY GOOD, but it must be PERSONAL!
37. (Q) Ernest Schelling [sp.?] pianist? (A) Not so good but might be approached, and with the personal experiences - wholehearted.
38. (Q) Dr. H. R. Charleton? [M.D.] (A) VERY WELL, if there is to be first the PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!
39. (Q) What should be done in relation to Dr. [Gardner] Murphy of Columbia in following up the work already begun? (A) Personal experiences MUST be, ever, the first approach!

In giving to those present, in their interest, in their sincerity of purpose, in all phases of their activity: Let this be kept first and foremost in their minds; that there are in their experiences in the present OPPORTUNITIES for service! Do not sow thy pearls before swine, neither be thou the judge of thy brother; but let thy activities in thy daily dealings with thy fellow man be CONSISTENT with that ye PROFESS to believe! For it is not in how much ye know that ye may be in the closer walk with Him, but how great, how sincere, art thou in BEING a channel through which thy Lord, thy God, may be made manifest among and to those ye meet day by day! For GOD is not mocked, and whatsoever ye sow, that must ye also reap!
40. We are through for the present.
