Time of Reading ... Lexington Ave., 12:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. [257]: You will have before you the body of [257], who is present in this room, as to his physical condition and his business relations with [4171] and [2597] who are both at the factory in Woodfin, N. C., and his relations in New York with the large corporations with whom they are dealing; also general business conditions, political and otherwise; also his investments, as to sale of real estate in Lexington, Ky., also investments in other lines. We will ask questions, and we hope you will give us complete information and answer all the questions which I have here.

2. EC: We have the body, [257], here - with those business relations as respecting individuals, investments, associations, and otherwise - also the physical forces. These, or many of these, we have had here before. Many changes, many different circumstances, have arisen since we have had some of these.

3. As for the physical forces of the body, [See 257-26 on 3/31/28] these need rather the warning that the body may be equal to those mental forces necessary to carry on the contemplated efforts of body and mind with the associations in the various channels. Again would be that warning concerning overtaxation of body physically and mentally. BETTER that the body slow up for two to three weeks, than to be in the position of disabled so that there would arise doubts or ANY conditions that would hinder the carrying out of those contemplated efforts of the body, mentally and physically.

4. Ready for questions.

5. (Q) Do the teeth of the body need attention? (A) Need attention; especially some of the molars.

6. (Q) Should they be removed? (A) Better that they be treated locally, for the conditions are not of the nature as yet that these cannot be cared for by local treatment, and it's well that one keep the teeth!

7. (Q) Is there any special treatment that can be used?

257-29 Page 2

(A) Local treatment for the cleansing of conditions in and about the roots and the general physical body builded up. Just so they stop the absorption of toxins or poisons from the conditions existent in and about the teeth, antrum and face.

8. (Q) What is the cause of the occasional bad breath? (A) Improper assimilation, and teeth.

9. (Q) Does personal massaging of hair, as now given, give the aid that the hair needs? (A) Were those properties applied with same as have often been given, yes.

10. (Q) Where should the body go for the two or three weeks rest that it needs? (A) Any place where there is plenty of quiet, rest, salt water, sand, shade. [See 4/7/29 baby son's rdg. 759-2, Par. 12-A--18-A, in re [257]'s health, keeping down weight, dandruff, etc.]

11. (Q) Is there any place recommended? any special place? (A) Any place where this may be secured, with surroundings that are congenial or that may be made congenial for the body; these would be recommended.

12. (Q) Why has no public announcement been made of the official post that [257] has been elected to? (A) On account of the settlement that must be made with the body when such announcement is made. This will be made when other members of the firm are present and at the meeting - which, as we find, would be in September or October.

13. (Q) Should the body himself make any statement as to his new official post? (A) Not until officially announced!

14. (Q) Will there be any monetary settlement at all before the return of the other member of the firm? (A) Considerable!

15. (Q) Do they intend to pay full commission on the present business now being written? (A) In accordance with that as has been given respecting same.

16. (Q) Should body make any suggestion at Asheville as to this settlement? (A) Certainly! The body should outline to self, for self, that of an equitable settlement, and in the various associations of the body as connected with those thus associated, and with the monetary condition, with the position, with the various stocks, the various commissions of various other portions of business, etc., then that outline, then these presented to those who have charge of same, and through that there may come an equitable

settlement or agreement. Do that.

17. (Q) What will be the general business conditions for the latter part of this year? (A) Good, after October 15th and November 15th.

18. (Q) Will the country change its present kind of administration? (A) That in other lines. As we find, there will be changes in POLICIES.

19. (Q) Will the government remain in the hands of the Republicans? (A) Change policies!

20. (Q) Will the factory at Asheville ship all merchandise - (A) That is acceptable? Yes. There exists with some of the merchandise, rather in a finish, that to some has become objectionable. In the manner of a finish. Add to the varnish that of alcohol that is re-distilled, and this bloom that appears will be taken care of, and when the first rub is given, before the last finish, see? (and this the basis for the bloom), add that at that period, see?

21. (Q) What quantity of the alcohol to each gallon of lacquer should be used? (A) That will have to be experimented with, for it depends upon the aging or drying of the base on which same is put, and the variation will be such that this will be easily worked out - see?.

22. (Q) Will the superintendant understand how to make this preparation? (A) Sure!

23. (Q) How many coats of lacquer is best to use before this final preparation is used? (A) The preparation is used before the final coat of lacquer is given, see? for in this the bloom appears. When the finish reaches the last rub, see? before this last rub is given, apply this re-distilled alcohol (that's wood alcohol, see? that works with wood) on or in same. The variation being according to the condition of stock or base on which same is put. Then the rub - then the last finish - this disappears. This the fault as has been seen with some deliveries. This will eliminate these conditions.

24. (Q) Is there any way to get rid of the pumice which shows up in the finish after the cabinets are delivered? (A) This the condition you are meeting!

25. (Q) How can factory improve its service and deliver more merchandise from now on? (A) This may only be accomplished, as the conditions exist at present, by the addition of more help, or the classification of the the help already employed, in the preparation and delivery of same.

26. (Q) What is the weakest part of the present factory organization? (A) This would be hard to say, for while there are many

257-29 Page 4

conditions that would be improved were there better cooperation with the employer and employee; this, however, becomes an INDIVIDUAL condition from time to time, and has to be met AS conditions arise from time to time. This, as we find, the weaker point. How to correct it is almost an endless, and oftentimes THANKLESS, job of superintendant; for these are hard to be understood by those that are not IN the position of handling INDIVIDUALS reared, raised, working under different environmental conditions entirely from those that are seeking greater effort from the employed, see? These are being handled and are being taken care of well. Temperamental conditions exist, to be sure. These are to be met as conditions arise.

27. (Q) Would an assistant to the present superintendant [2597] be of assistance to him? (A) Very good, were he in proper cooperation with the superintendant - but one that was not in cooperation wholly, or one that sided either with one seeking production or with the employee, would create disturbances rather than assistance. Whole-hearted cooperation there, well. Wholehearted cooperation means, then, one-mindedness - but with the ability to supervise even as well as superintendant; for much depends upon the superintendant here.

28. (Q) Is his health - (A) A hindrance at times? Sure. This, however, is being taken care of in a fair way. This would be ONE cause why there should be PARTICULARLY at this time others in training, as it were, to assist. Don't change superintendants though!

29. (Q) Is the present superintendant in accord with the body [257]? (A) Better than it has been. Don't demand of superintendant that which you wouldn't want demanded of self! There would be better cooperation between each.

30. (Q) Has [257] handled taking of business properly? (A) Very good. Oftentimes overcrowded - but this good in some respects, bad in others. Just don't push it too far! Don't get OVER anxious!

31. (Q) What suggestion can [257] make the superintendant so that he will understand that [257] desires to work for him and with him, as well as for self? (A) Just ACT that way! That's the best suggestion. That's the best criterion. You are not fooling with a dumbhead AT ALL!

32. (Q) What changes are to come in the period directly after August 1st in the cabinet business?

257-29 Page 5

(A) There are to be many changes soon. These, as we find, have been delayed somewhat from what we have had before - these have been suggested from time to time, that there is to be an entirely different change in the CHARACTER of reception, and necessarily the variation in the character of cabinet. This, as we find, will be delayed until October or December, possibly February, before a great big change takes place in same.

33. We are through for the present.
