Time of Reading 7:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., N.Y.
1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [257] ... N.Y. City. The body now wishes the Forces to inform him the exact date he should go to St. Louis and also requests new directions to assist him in purchasing the Paris Medicine Company of St. Louis. You will answer all the questions which we will ask you regarding this body's business relations.
2. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, [257], also those associations and relations of the body. These we have had before.
3. Now respecting the purchasing of interests of those interested in Paris Medicine Company, these - as we have had - are now in the position where this may be carried out or obtained in the way as would be satisfactory for those desiring to purchase and operate same.
4. In the early portion of the coming month would be the proper time for the body to begin the further negotiations for this purchase. Those of the company that are to be induced to dispose of same would be that of Grove [Edwin Grove]. This body may be approached at this time through the legal end, or one handling the legal phases of the company in the distribution of profits; that is, that one that handles this distribution should be the one through whom [257] would approach Grove; for, as is understood, were the body to acquaint Grove with the fact that Seeley [Fred Seeley] - or others that are close to him - are to, through this channel, gain control of this company, then there would be little possibility of completing the negotiations - yet this may be handled directly as being purchased for the banking interests in New York, and through that channel should the approach be made - near the 9th to the 12th of April, this year.
5. Ready for questions.
6. (Q) Will Mr. Grove be interested in the work of the Forces thru Edgar Cayce? (A) Interested, but not well that this be handled directly
257-35 Page 2
through these channels - for it is already a knowledge to the body of others' interests in the work as is demonstrated through these channels. Hence would not be well that the approach be made through such influence.
7. (Q) Should Edgar Cayce accompany me to give the background to the social positions? (A) Not for the influence upon Grove or associates. Rather may this be used through the information, rather than personal contact at the present time - though this may be used later in the development of the products of the company so purchased, as an added income, as well as for the social or the financial prestige as may be gained through such.
8. (Q) Is this not a move to the general improvement of the Cayce Hospital as being a means to manufacture the prescriptions? [See 254-49 on EC Work.] (A) This a means, and an end, for the distribution of properties and proprietary medicines for those that are interested in the development of that phase of the phenomena; for this would be rather the OUTLET of that end, but should not be made any cause or purport; for the education of the individual and its application to the general masses should be the purport of such associations. In making any one phase of same the END is to defeat the greater purpose as may be accomplished. While such ends might and would bring greater amount of moneys, but moneys should be a means and not an end - but operations of any interested in furtherance of the [Edgar Cayce] work as may be accomplished through a portion of the work, even as hospital, for the hospital should be - even as the medicine company - only ONE of the channels of demonstrating the application of the forces as may be manifested in the material world. Not the END of such - for indeed, with such ideas, or such ideals, it would truly become the end and not the means by which manifestations may be made for and through individual application.
9. (Q) Give advice as to how much is to be said at St. Louis or how little. (A) This is easily overdone either way. There should be, as has been given, the full cooperation of the ones that make the approach to Grove and to those that are to be interviewed, and when there is the personal interview - then follow just as has been given, remembering that honey or sugar will attract flies where vinegar does not.
10. (Q) What plan should [257] lay before Grove? (A) That as has already been outlined, that Grove is to receive a portion of same in the further development of those things that are near and dear to the body through the
257-35 Page 3
association and through the love the body held for the founder and the establisher of this company, and that more opportunity is offered in the greater expansion and the greater field that may be covered. Along THIS line may the body succeed. While to take away from, without due consideration - yet it must be known that the body Grove is not to be the RULING factor in the further expansion, but rather that position as of chief advisor in such directions.
11. (Q) How should banker be approached? (A) This is, as has been given, one of the elements wherein pressure may be brought to bear on Grove, for Grove needs moneys for other ideas - and the approach there is only that there are the sufficient needs to be obtained at once through the changes to LESSEN the responsibilities as are held through the banker and the ways and means to turn that of an unsatisfactory business into one of a channel that brings LARGER and yet LARGER sums through that channel.
12. (Q) Should [257] offer to buy outright or to become affiliated with the business? (A) Outright.
13. (Q) What plan will get the immediate attention and interest of Edwin Grove? (A) Just those as outlined.
14. (Q) When will deal be successfully closed? (A) As has been given - April, June, or if NOT, then later in the year.
15. (Q) Any further advice for [257] regarding this? (A) Follow those suggestions as have been given in handling the situation, and there will be the successful and the proper termination of this association and deal here contemplated and worked upon.
16. We are through for the present.
