1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [257], present in this room, and his business associations and relations - including Medicine deal with Grove and McRoberts, Lumber deal with Cassidy [John W. Cassidy], Federal Wood Products Company, Investments, and Oil deal. You will answer the questions which we will ask you regarding these, and all phases of this entity's life.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257]. This we have had before, and those associations, business relations, and the phases as respecting these. Ready for questions.

3. (Q) What should [257] do for next two weeks to relax himself, yet attend to his business? (A) Work while working and play while playing, but do both!

4. (Q) Should he use ultra violet lamp, Cooper-Hewett? (A) This is one very good way to relax, provided there is sufficient rest taken after the use of same; for remember, the activities of this are for the superficial circulation, and it is a good way to take cold as well as good way to cure one.

5. (Q) Should Asheville Factory, Carolina Wood Products Co., be held ready for Radio Furniture exclusively for 1930? (A) Exclusively for radio furniture in 1930.

6. (Q) Shall [257] employ designer, Mr. Luger, part time? (A) There are a great many questions as would enter in, in such relations. For some reasons, he should NOT. For OTHERS, it would be very well. These had best be determined by the circumstances as arise in the NECESSITIES in the various conditions as arise RESPECTING the designing.

7. (Q) When should [257] go to General Motors Radio Corp. at Dayton? (A) There is already a prospective, or perspective, visit to be made - which is during the present month. This rather for that of still the prospective, but may be turned at the

257-56 Page 2

time into more than a prospective.

8. (Q) Is his plan to go to Montgomery Ward's with Carson of Colonial sound? (A) Very good. That is, the conditions as are surrounding same are of such that these offer the correct CHANNELS through which these may be handled. Will find that also others as associated with same will be helpful in an UNEXPECTED manner at this time.

9. (Q) Will Henry Roberts be of help? (A) Don't find Henry here.

10. (Q) What day this week should they go to Chicago? (A) Thursday.

11. (Q) What plan can [257] use to sell Sears Roebuck Radio Cabinets? (A) These will require some diplomatic handling, and may be accomplished in time. In the present these may be handled in TEMPORARY, or over productive manner - but there are some combinations as may be made respecting the manufacture and the taking of product from certain plants through these channels. These would be the approach and the best, but keep the contact and gradually work into same.

12. (Q) Should [257] see General Wood during this week or next week - president of Sears Roebuck? (A) May be in communication in this week, but would see him - for activities - in the NEXT, as we find.

13. (Q) Will this be a profitable Radio Cabinet year for Carolina Wood Products Co.? (A) This has been had before, and we don't see this changed any. After the certain periods, this will be as has been given. THIS has been given!

14. (Q) Will Westinghouse buy Radio Cabinets before June - from [257]? (A) This has also been dealt with. There are negotiations for some radio cabinets. At present some are fill-in's; others are to be built special. These, as we find, will be near to June before the REAL accomplishment of an order is considered an order - but SOME will be sold even before.

15. (Q) Will Kolster be reorganized before June? (A) More nearer to October.

16. (Q) What is situation with E. W. Grove, of St. Louis, on Medicine Deal - during next few weeks? (A) With the changes as may come in quotations, and IF (This is an IF!) the negotiations, as is seen with Kolster and those of the company who hold the refusal of same, are successful (which, as we find, are very apt to be), why we will find that this may be negotiated again in the next four to six weeks.

17. (Q) Will [257] hear from him?

257-56 Page 3

(A) Hear indirectly. More apt to hear from McRoberts.

18. (Q) McRoberts is away - should [257] attempt to visit him or await the return to N.Y.? (A) He will call for him!

19. (Q) What stock can [257] buy for a good turn in March? (A) Rails and industrials.

20. (Q) How soon will Wabash show a big profit? (A) In nine months.

21. (Q) Int. Tel & Tel? (A) Every day!

22. (Q) Radio? (A) That's crawfishing and going back and forth. Ride both ways and get burnt, or take it for a long time.

23. (Q) [257] has a lumber proposition in writing in his hand. How can it be successfully handled quickly? and where? (A) In St. Louis - the lumber dealers' association, of that beginning from the lumbermen.

24. (Q) Cassidy has promised Cayce $300,000. Should this be put in writing? (A) Not much chance of getting it! but be very well to put in writing!

25. (Q) Can Cassidy be depended upon in this deal? (A) As far as in writing goes!

26. (Q) Are changes in set-up necessary? (A) Not until after the negotiations are begun.

27. (Q) Will he have to go West on it? (A) It's already realized have to go half way! Why not go the rest, when it's necessary!

28. (Q) What should [257] say to Isaacs and Lauterstein to get a settlement of money due him? (A) This, as has been given time and time again, would best be handled when there comes settlement in some other directions. This, then, is give or take.

29. (Q) Is [257]'s arrangements with Ike [Isaac] Lande on stocks perfectly safe? (A) Partially so. This can be entrusted, but be improved on as conditions change.

30. (Q) When should [257] begin on his Ardmore oil deal with a good opportunity to put it over? [See 257-45 on 7/6/29.] (A) After the 30th of June, or on the 30th of June.

31. (Q) With what group? (A) Well, there's several groups that may be handled with. Either the Independent, or with those of the Standard. The Standard of Indiana would be the one to handle it through. Be objectionable to some, but most eventually come back to that.

32. (Q) Should [257] go into Liberty Ice Machine

257-56 Page 4

Manufacturing & proposition? (A) When set up properly, would be WELL. Presents good opportunities.

33. (Q) Should he do it with Lauterstein and Lowe in the picture? (A) Be good way to choke Lowe, if he wants to handle it in that way! Be very well with Lauterstein - Give him an opportunity.

34. (Q) Which Lauterstein is the best one to handle this? (A) The attorney.

35. (Q) Should our partner, Ben Lauterstein, be considered in the proposition? (A) Should.

36. (Q) Shall we make up some stock on the K. D. Combination at Asheville? (A) Make up stock.

37. (Q) Can we do anything to push Atwater Kent into giving us an order? (A) Not at present. They are too hard run themselves.

38. (Q) When should we attempt? (A) When they make the changes in their cabinet styles, which will occur - as we find - in May, or in July.

39. (Q) Will we get the business from Columbia Phonograph? (A) Some.

40. (Q) Shall we go into a distributor proposition with American Bosch Magneto? (A) Be slow about that. You are into it enough at present to cause a lot of dissension and discussion. While you may be forced into it in a larger scale, but go slow at it.

41. (Q) Will they be safe to sell? (A) Be safe for money - not for the goods. That's the trouble with it - there are too many BICKERINGS with this, and in the changes that are being made in it at present - See, there are some distresses that are being caused by some DISSATISFIED ASSOCIATES in it - see?

42. (Q) Should General Electric and Goldman Saks be held or sold now at present price? (A) We would sell the one and hold the other, but those may alter - because there are many changes coming in these at the present time. They will both be good for a few days, but there will be breaks in both of them.

43. (Q) When will the #60 sets be liquidated and shall we present a proposition to R.C.A. to build cabinets for them? (A) These, as we find, offer some conditions that are unsatisfactory in the liquidation of them - yet we find that this should be accomplished in April, and then there may be made propositions for August and September deliveries.

44. (Q) Will Isaacs, Lauterstein and [257] buy the

257-56 Page 5

Sterling, Inc., and Roessler Stores, within one year from the bankers? (A) They will be able to, and they may have to.

45. (Q) What is [257]'s position now with the Albert Pick Co., from the standpoint of the future? (A) Well, there might be much said respecting these - because these are dependent upon many various things that are in the affairs of [257], both as relation to the association (that is, the Albert Pick) and as related to others. In some respects, these would soon be forgotten by [257]. In others, were there changes to come about, they may be made to be useful in gaining much control of other INTERESTS as may be made necessary. That dependent upon the outcome of negotiations with Sears, Montgomery [Montgomery Ward?], and others. We are through. Copy to Self " " Ass'n office " " Datastician
