1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [257], present in this room, and all phases of his life. You will answer the questions which he will ask regarding his physical, mental and material affairs.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257], the conditions, circumstances as surround the body in its various activities and associations. Ready for questions.
3. (Q) Is [257] following the right treatment with Reilly to protect his body against present conditions? [H. J. Reilly, Ph.T] (A) Yes, these are well, if the body will be somewhat more consistent or persistent with the applications as are made for the corrections of the conditions - and these are well.
4. (Q) What should be added? (A) Consistency.
5. (Q) Should he take any additional exercise? (A) Be well to keep in the open, or to walk, as much as the body finds possible to be done.
6. (Q) When will be best time to take a vacation, considering his present business conditions? (A) After the 16th of August.
7. (Q) Where would be the best place for the needs of the body? (A) Where there is sand and sea, and hills, and the like.
8. (Q) What will keep him best mentally and physically fit? (A) In considering such circumstances, or conditions as surround the body and the efforts, and as the body FEELS at the present trials and tribulations, in KEEPING self in closer with those ideals as the body has in its training years had so oft presented, these would in a way - in the BETTER way and manner - keep the body better fit mentally and physically. As has oft been given, and as has been given by those who directed the formative years of the body-physical and body-mental development, the natural inclinations are to keep busy - these have been the trainings. Then, to attempt to be a lazy person, or one
257-71 Page 2
inactive, these would NOT be well - but a thorough diversification of the activities, these will rest the body mentally and physically, and make for an acuteness in the mental activities of the body. THIS would be well.
9. (Q) Would this change be in business or social life? (A) Both.
10. (Q) Will I be able to sell Westinghouse Refrigerators this year? (A) They may be sold this year, but most of the deliveries would be late, or for the coming season.
11. (Q) Should I take Lauterstein in to full partnership on all refrigerators? (A) This would be well to consider. As has been given, these individuals are rather GOOD for one another in their activities, manners of approach, BALANCES often one for another.
12. (Q) Why do I feel as I do as to complete association in all matters with Ben Lauterstein? since these conditions have arisen? (A) This has oft been given in the comparison of the varied circumstances as have arisen in the associations of the individuals. That in the present there is the hesitancy in the complete surrender is the lack of the whole confidence in the activities of the body. In this respect, as has been outlined for this association, well that an equitable, amicable, even understanding be made BETWEEN the two in their associations, for the ABILITIES of each are not doubted. Rather those of the PERSONAL touch, the personal activities of each. These may be made well, though, one for another.
13. (Q) What can be done by Lauterstein to overcome it? (A) This arising, this understanding as has been suggested. Talk the matters, the circumstances, the conditions over in a manner wherein each will know, each will understand, that the weakness in one often becomes the strength in another, and that the ASSOCIATIONS then MAKE for a check on each activity. Hence the manner in which they become stabilizers one for the other.
14. (Q) Regarding partnership, what basis, considering past claims are still unpaid? (A) These, as has been given, should be settled, or an UNDERSTANDING as to the rights should be firmly established before any partnership would be wholly, or even in part agreed to. Then, work on that same basis as each has AGREED to in their associations from the first.
15. (Q) Is that fifty-fifty? (A) That's been the understanding.

16. (Q) How can I get the representation of Rex Mfg. Co., Connersville, Ind.? (A) That there has been some association with the individuals who are in charge of the affairs of this company will make for, through not self's own efforts alone, but through some of those whom the body has been associated with in various ways and manners - as those that are in close touch WITH these, or the Rex Company activities - Corpress [?].
17. (Q) Is that a man in Connersville or in N.Y.? (A) Man in Indiana. Known through associates in Chicago.
18. (Q) How can I get Alaska Refrigerator account from Gordon of Redmon & Co. Bankers and Spratt of Rollins & Co? (A) These, as we find, have been tied with other individuals, not only through personal association but aid, as has been given, in the carrying on of the undertaking. These, as we find, may be approached so that first a divide in; later in more and more a developing of the business in this direction, through that association of the Rex people.
19. (Q) Should I plan to take over Alaska factory to own or just to represent? (A) Represent, in the first. Later, when these are better settled, or better development developed, then this may be taken in in a closer association. For the next two seasons, or rest of this and next, would be best as representative and the aid as may be had in these developments, or the Alaska, will enable the body to CONTROL without being too responsible for, other than that which comes TO the body from the efforts expended.
20. (Q) Would Gurney be a good factory to represent, of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin? (A) These in some directions would be very well. There are some changes that would be made in this factory before a more satisfactory, or most satisfactory agreement might be reached, however.
21. (Q) Is that because of the equipment? (A) Because of the equipment. That on account of some of the POLICIES of some of those in control.
22. (Q) Would I be more successful in the Refrigeration business or the furniture business as in Radio? (A) Refrigeration appeals most to the body and to the body's activities, on account of its more ACTIVE force, or activity in this line in the present, and there is more to be ACCOMPLISHED in this line in the next few years, but for the LONG time, or long term, the furniture will offer the better outlet, but don't tie self to either one until developments in the next eighteen months to two years.

23. (Q) Would Studebaker, Jr., [Clement Studebaker, Jr.?] be best man to assist taking over Zero-Zone at Chicago. (A) Some associates AND Studebaker would be best man; that is, associates of Studebaker.
24. (Q) Would Samuel (?) be a good man? (A) Be a good man.
25. (Q) Silas Strong (?)? (A) Not sure enough there.
26. (Q) Is this the time to see Studebaker, Jr., of Chicago for a merchandising set-up? (A) Very good time, when he has rested again - yes.
27. (Q) Bulova Watch Co. are interested in the Radio Program Clock - What would be satisfactory basis between them - the inventor - and our group? (A) This becomes in its final analysis a sales proposition for the better development of the proposition, and this may be made BEST by making a sliding scale of interests with the manufacturer, as WELL as the distributors of the product, for the more there are distributed the better the proposition with the manufacturer and the greater the proposition, or activity with those to whom and FROM whom there may be obtained the larger accounts for the advertising, as well as sales feature. Hence a sliding scale.
28. (Q) Should Bulova be given the exclusive handling of the entire proposition, as manufacturing of clocks? (A) With the proposition in the present status; that is, with the Radio proposition AND what Bulova has meant TO the Radio programs of the larger chains, would be well to consider giving exclusive right for a better proposition in the sliding scale program - see?
29. (Q) Will the Clock-Program as set out in the prospectus be successful? (A) As a general - not as a whole in toto, but as in a general would be successful for it offers not only to various manufacturers an opportunity for the seeing of specific and definite results in a shorter period - hence a greater price may be asked for the opportunity of their representation in the program.
30. (Q) What will be best way to introduce and merchandise? (A) This would be best to be introduced through all of the activities of those that are the advertising mediums for the programs; that is, as may be considered, for any of the larger or national advertisers would not only see the sales represented, but as a medium for the various channels of distribution for work done, as cars or such are given in the present programs.
257-71 Page 5
31. (Q) What Radio station best to work through Columbia Broadcasting or National Broadcasting? (A) The National Broadcasting covers the LARGER amount of the LARGER NATIONAL advertisers. While there are GOOD accounts, or good through the Columbia, yet those of the better programs - as are considered as a NATIONAL program - are through the National, see?
32. (Q) Would Mr. Bulova, Jr., employ me as a member of his staff, and in what capacity? (A) In an advisory capacity in the distribution of the products of the Bulova Company.
33. (Q) Should I plan to accept that at once? (A) By October.
34. (Q) How can I build up this good will in the meantime? (A) Just being natural.
35. (Q) Should I make it on a social basis also? (A) Don't press THAT portion too STRONGLY, but well to be considered in its proper relation to the activities of a mode of the individual's life?
36. (Q) Should I discuss the insurance machine with Bulova, Jr.? because of the clock attachment? (A) Would be well to discuss, but not a great deal of interest, as we find, would be evinced in the beginning. In the ASSOCIATIONS as this would BRING a little LATER, would make an interest in the second or third leasing of the rights for the clock property, or proportion.
37. (Q) Reference Midget Maid, household cleaner, I have a program in my hand for the merchandising at a very small cost. Is this plan recommended? (A) Very good plan. We would recommend it.
38. (Q) What can be added to assist it to be successful? (A) Put it INTO operations, and it will indicate its weak points as the DEVELOPMENTS go. Then correct THEM as they appear, for in various TERRITORIES they will present different oppositions in the various ways, see?
39. (Q) How can [348] fit into that program? (A) Well as a distributor, or as a distributor's representative, see - that is, representing those who make for the larger distributions, or distributors over the various portions of the country IN the program, see? As a SPECIALTY man in other words, in the aiding of those who become the distributing agents, or points. [See 348-7, Par. R5.]
40. (Q) Will [257] be better off with new associates for handling the manufacture and sale of Midget Maid? (A) There are those conditions that have presented them- selves in this proposition that becomes rather of the
257-71 Page 6
personal nature. Hence new associations would CLARIFY the situation; not necessary that Lauterstein be left out, but rather that his activities IN the handling of same be disregarded or left out - see?
