2. (Q) Reference the Puffer-Hubbard factory and owner, Mr. Ralph Phillips, was the [257] meeting with Mr. Phillips in Chicago satisfactory to both parties? (A) Since the meeting there have been some developments that have made for changes, yet in the whole a satisfactory beginning - at least.
3. (Q) What else could have been done to make it more constructive? (A) That that has been done has been better.
4. (Q) Will the new plan worked out by Phillips and [257], using the finance company in Minneapolis to finance three-year papers for the big companies, will that be successful? (A) Be successful, if these are handled on the outline such as the way and manner done by Refrigeration Discount Corporation, Detroit.
5. (Q) Would a two-year plan of finance be successful in the cooler plant for selling? (A) Be successful.
6. (Q) Should I insist on a three-year plan? (A) This may be made in some instances, but the regular plan as we find would be well, on these, in the two-year plan.
7. (Q) Will it be acceptable to the First National Bank Finance Co., of Minneapolis, Minn? (A) Will be acceptable, will the plan be worked out as is suggested.

9. (Q) What is best plan on Western Union in Chicago? (A) This has been worked out in part. Follow along those lines of the regular channels through which the distribution, or the placing of those things for the use in the various offices are necessary, and through these channels may there be carried to success such negotiations.
10. (Q) Who is best man to see in N.Y. and Chicago? (A) This may be handled through the regular channels, as given.
11. (Q) What concern in N.Y. is best for quick action for the new business? (A) Any of those concerns that make a specialty of such distributions would be well. Those that deal with the larger amount of custom or trade in many fields have already had some acceptances on such, but those that make a specialty of distributing or handling such; or there might be such a corporation or company formed for the distribution of same, that would make a specialty of such - as does the Towel corporations, or those that supply the necessary conditions for such commodities, or the towel supplies themselves may be approached on such undertakings.
12. (Q) What distributors should [257] take on in N.Y. to handle show-cases for electric refrigeration? (A) There have been some connections made for these, that these followed out would make for a satisfactory connection and association.
13. (Q) Would distributors or direct selling be the best plan? (A) Distributors.
14. (Q) Is it best for [257] to work through water companies in the United States or direct to the outlets themselves? (A) In different portions of the country different conditions exist. Where there are those water companies of sufficient capacity, as in central Ohio - through Springfield, Columbus, Dayton, Hamilton, Cincinnati and such - where water companies make a specialty of distributing, and have a clientele necessary or large enough for handling such, then go through these. Then, in other portions of the country the distribution through the electrical supply houses would be the better. In others, those that make for the supplying of office and bank equipment. These conditions must be met as necessity demands in various portions of the country. As we find in the South, especially through Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, here we find both specialty companies and electrical companies; while through the Northeast - as in Virginia, West Virginia, Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New England - these would be more through specialty companies,
257-84 Page 3
and only a portion in the electrical companies - see?
15. (Q) Who would be the best water company in N.Y.? (A) We would rather prefer the specialty companies.
16. (Q) Is it advisable for [257] to work with Ralph Steinberg on the Dutch Shell Petroleum Filling Stations and the City Service Filling Stations, or should he go direct himself, considering the past associations of [257] and Steinberg? (A) Best go through Steinberg, for the associations and connections there are such that these will enable them to be placed in a whole. While the necessity of the commissions or the relations will apparently be such that this is taking from much that might be handled, but will be incapable of being handled other than through such an association or connection under the present circumstances.
17. (Q) When would be the best time for [257] to go back to Chicago? (A) When necessity demands it! Already been since we had these!
18. (Q) How can [257] be successful in selling refrigerator cabinets to Crosley of Cincinnati? (A) These, as we find, through those channels where there were those of the John Range that were associated with, and that handle now some of these portions of this distribution part. Go through these channels.

21. (Q) Will [257] be able, with the success the Forces see for him, to be able to keep in his organization all the people he had at Federal? (A) There will be some changes.
22. (Q) On what kind of a basis can he interest Mr. H. M. Peritz? (A) In such a capacity as he served in the Federal organization, and in a way that the services may be given - or dependent upon the character of service, and that that is brought with same, for the continuing or carrying on of same.
23. (Q) On what basis should Peritz' future rest or be assured? (A) On his abilities to bring sufficient of the various outlets for that necessary to carry on.
24. (Q) What plans should he work out for Mrs. [189] that
257-84 Page 4
will enable her to carry on and be successful? (A) Much in the same manner and way of her latter portions of service and associations with the Federal, though these will become more and more closely identified with the actual operations and office, and actual work of [257] himself.
25. (Q) What line of endeavor would Mrs. [189] be best able to function? (A) As assistant to, or secretary to.
26. (Q) What would be the possibilities for Mrs. [189]'s future in association with [257]? (A) Depends upon the cooperative forces and harmony that is kept throughout the whole of the association or organization.

28. (Q) Should [257] go to Radio Show in Chicago? (A) If necessity demands, and - as will be seen - there will be many of those associations and connections that would be well to be held and kept together.
29. (Q) What firm can [257] work best with immediately on radio cabinets? (A) Westinghouse, and those of the American Tel & Tel association.
30. (Q) Is there anything else in radio that [257] should interest himself in at the present time? (A) He has special interests in those developments that will make for the best in and under the present circumstances and conditions, and as will arise for the next two to three years.
31. (Q) Would bro. [2653] be successful with the [257] organization? (A) Provided same is kept where those come more in the line in which [2653] would function best, as has been outlined for his better development.
32. (Q) What should be his special work and how can he make himself valuable to the organization? (A) Doing and being valuable! It's been outlined for him! We haven't changed! and he hasn't changed much!
33. (Q) Should bro. [2588] be used in the organization? (A) Associated in same would be well. As functioning in same would be very good, provided there may be kept the proper harmony.
34. (Q) In what capacity? (A) Salesman.
35. (Q) Should bro. [4162] be used in the organization? (A) Developments may bring forth, but why change when there
257-84 Page 5
are already satisfactory results in some respects, at least, for [4162] - and which would make for an upheaval in many directions, and contention later - until developments have proceeded farther.
36. (Q) Any further advice for [257] at this time? (A) Know that there must be those services rendered that will endear the personality of the organization, and policies that are being built. Keep down as much contention as is possible. Know that, that as represented will be as good or even better than as presented or represented. Do not try to hoodwink nor to undermine any other organization. Let the efforts, the service, stand or fall on its merits. Make for that - the organization works TOGETHER, not FOR anyone!
