Time of Reading ... Ave., 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [257], present in this room (and associations), who seeks advice, counsel and guidance, as to his mental and material affairs. You will answer the questions he submits.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257] and associates - this body and the enquiring mind we have had before.
3. Ready for questions.
4. (Q) Should we move from present home at ... St., N.Y.C., after Oct. 1st? (A) As we would find, the location and the surrounding - that is, environ that is created by same - will be much better in keeping with the efforts of the body than to move to other surroundings; unless there is taken into consideration that where there is more open country or surrounding for those dependent upon the body, yet in this there would necessitate those surroundings that would gradually grow to be unsatisfactory - but in the present, these - we would find - would be the more desirable, more satisfactory.
5. (Q) What are the prospects for [257] Wood & Metal Products Corp., of ... Ave., N.Y.C., considering present set-up and association of [257]? (A) As we find, these may be answered very easily - in that the prospects and the policy of the developing of the organization into a real sales organization are very, very good. These, to be sure, will require close attention, yet not such niggardly confining of self or associates to circumstances or conditions as to become one TOO close-fisted; yet the policy should be a service rendered that is second to none, and with the character of the service there is then the proper consideration given by those whom the body and associates serve, and these will naturally come of themselves, if the policies and considerations that have been and are being formulated are
257-85 Page 2
carried out in their proper order and relationship. When there are those associations and connections made that require a very definite piece or character of work be done, do not allow same to go neglected at any stage or period of development of the associations; for the carrying on of those things that will bring about the proper associations, is that each condition which arises - great or small in its magnitude - must receive the consideration as if the whole organization's future depends upon same; for, as a matter of fact, it DOES depend upon just how each individual, each group, each factor, IS considered; for, as we find, as there is builded that name for each condition or circumstance having its proper consideration, this becomes known - and the appreciation of same will be shown in the activities and lives of those whom the body contacts in such association. For, as is seen, as has been given oft to the body, in the going in and coming out in such a development for an organization that is to serve both the producer and the consumer in their relationships, then see that each are given the proper consideration, and BOTH will consider one so serving. This is a universal law. The laborer is worthy of his hire, and the nearer it is conducted upon those principles that are the key to the association of the universal law, so will the success become more universal in the various contacts that are made from day to day. As the circumstances arise, as conditions are to be met, if these are met with this consideration first and foremost, then self and self's associations in same will receive that proper remuneration and consideration and thought from all concerned. Do that.
6. (Q) What changes could be made to further improve present set-up? (A) The present set-up is very good. There are circumstances and conditions that will arise, or may arise from time to time, when there may be some deviation or variation from some of the conditions that are handled - or manners in which conditions are handled at present, but with the policy - with the idea instilled and active in each associate, these will be found to become such principles that both those considered will come MORE than half way in making for satisfactory arrangements and conditions; for, as has been seen and oft given, when one conducts self, his associations and business relations, in such a manner as to deserve the respect, the honor, the consideration, the friendship, the brotherly love, the thoughtfulness that comes WITH such principles, then He that is the GIVER of all

good and perfect gifts makes the way much easier. How oft has the body, [257], found that from some little courtesy, some little favor that in itself to many would have passed without consideration, the consideration by the body was given as a natural consequence of those instilled influences that have ever emanated from the activities of the body, but the RESULTS in the LIVES of those so acted upon have been such as to bring friendships, and social relationships in such a way and manner as may only be broken by their being shown that this has turned into a selfish motive, a selfish interest that is for the moment or the day only. The pure love of the brotherly kindness, that may be shown in MANY a way and manner, brings about that difference that makes for the larger abilities of individuals in handling such associations than that that is of the hard and set rule that cuts as a positive manner without consideration for other than self.
7. (Q) Did Philip Marcus, as comptroller of the corporation, make the proper and best contract with Phillips of Puffer-Hubbard factory? (A) These, as we find, will prove to be VERY beneficial to all concerned. While there will be the necessity of some minor alterations as developments and circumstances progress, let these be done in such a way and manner that there is no reflection upon the abilities of Marcus, or in the associations of individuals as supply those relationships between [257] and associates and the Puffer-Hubbard Company; for while the activities in MANY ways between [257] and Marcus are of a very decided nature, these may be made to be a balance-wheel one for another, IF the IDEALS are maintained and not merely ideas! The IDEAS as in reference to MAIN- TAINING the ideal relationships between individual producers and distributors alike. The IDEAS may be changed often, but the IDEAL remaining ever!
8. (Q) What arguments will persuade the Postal Telegraph official, Mr. Deegan, to place order for coolers on basis suggested by [257]? (A) Just the following up of the idea of the savings, and of the manner that there is not being added a material excess of that being expended at the present time - which makes for an eventuality of a larger asset for that being expended, when that being expended at present is EVER remaining a liability!
9. (Q) Will it be safe to sell Postal Telegraph Co.? (A) Be safe.
10. (Q) What can [257] do to sell the Supt. of N.Y. Central Bldg., Mr. Everett, whose office is in Room 426?

(A) This may be handled in the same GENERAL way and manner. As to the difference in capacities, and as to the effectiveness, and ALSO as to the care or the service that is given for the period or term of these considerations being made respecting the product itself. These are the best features. These are the things to be stressed, and gives the proper atmosphere for that ideal of a service rendered - and a service given calls for a service on the part of all concerned in such cooperative measures and manners as to make for a better feeling of relationships of every nature between all concerned in same. Where full valuation is given for the service, where full service is rendered in aiding those so serving to serve others, then the proper relationships are established that are INVALUABLE assets to those that establish such ideals. While many may say, under the stress of times, the stress of financial situations everywhere, that the dollar and the cent are the ideal, there are still in the hearts of men and women everywhere that that bespeaks more of that natural influence that must come more and more abroad in every character of business relationship, that a universal service on the part of all concerned must be reverted to, or conducted upon such a basis as the ideal of the relationships, would there ever be established that as may make for that confidence which has been shaken - and in many places shattered - by non-conformity, other than "What may I make today for my little pile?"
11. (Q) What will make our organization more attractive? (A) Would be well that the organization realize, as it sets forth in its efforts to attract others, or attract various individuals, groups or classes, that like ALONE begets like - and will there be an attractive organization, that attracts individuals in their various walks of life, then that character of service, that character of quality, that character of the relationships are to be established that make attractive - and not ALONE attractive in cents, or pounds, or dollars, but ALL in a well balanced way and manner. These make for those attractive features, attractive conditions, attractive circumstances and surroundings; not EVER figuring that this will be gotten by today, for - as has been given - the body should so act in every association, in every conversation, with individual associates, those that would be attracted, that he may be willing to bow not only TO, but make again the acquaintance of that as has been handed out to thy brother; for we must meet ourselves in our dealings with our associates, or friends, or neighbors, or enemies even - for, as has been

said as of old, which is the universal law, "If ye will be my people, I will be your God!" Will ye be my friends and my associates, I will be your friend and YOUR associate, and we together may accomplish that for EACH that may NOT be accomplished without that service, that association, that comes from a unified effort to provide those necessary conditions that will make for better surroundings and conditions, and betterments in every relationship. Do not associate self, then, with any character of proposition that does not offer as a basis of relationship or association that CHARACTER of an ideal as may be builded in such relations that are to be and are being established between the producers and the consumers or distributors, in WHATEVER line that may be considered! In this way and manner may there be builded that which is as builded upon the rock, and though there may come the storms of dissension, while others are faltering because they have founded their relationships upon the sands that allow at times advantage to be taken of this one, that one or the other, those builded upon the rock - that are higher than ANY individual - will STAND while others are falling. Though they may have the appearance of being much stronger today in their circumstance, or even in their relationships to distributing organizations - but builded properly these will withstand ALL storms of disruption, disorder. Would ye be friendly, show thyself to be a friend. Would ye have business, show thyself to be capable of handling same in all its phases, all its relationships. These, to some, may be called idealistic rather than good business - but the time has arisen in the life, in the conditions, in the affairs of the world, in business - whether at home or abroad, whether in the home or in the walks of everyday life - when we must stand close to that that will not turn again and smite us!
12. (Q) Should [257] devote his entire time to the sale of water coolers? (A) This might be yes and might be no! CIRCUMSTANCES must of NECESSITY govern this, more than may be stated.
