Time of Reading ... Ave., 10:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York, N.Y. (Body & enquiring mind, [257], [348], ques. as to mental affairs and material associations)
1. EC: Yes, we have the bodies, the enquiring minds, [257] and [348]. These - and in part associations - we have had before. Ready for questions.
2. (Q) Through what channel should [257] Corp. go in Norfolk to introduce Kahnstant Koolers? (A) As we find, there has been quite a survey made of this particular portion of equipment. Were there efforts made, however, to place several - or as many such units as possible, then there could be made a connection either in Norfolk or Portsmouth that would be much more satisfactory. The policies that are being outlined for the placing of such units would allow one to make such connections in placing same, that these would be well and PROFITABLE - not only to the ones doing such work, but also to those that are made the agents or channels through which such would be distributed. The easier one, as we find, would be the Lasting Furniture Corporation, Portsmouth. [Hyman B. Lasting]
3. (Q) Is Kahnstant Koolers a good trade name? (A) Very good trade name.
4. (Q) What other products can be sold under this name? (A) ANY product that the name is adaptable to, as would very well be with that association with [348] in the Kahnstant Kleaner - but this couldn't be a cooler cleaner! [GD's note: Mr. [348] held a sample of the cleaner, sponge cleaner, in his hand.]
5. (Q) How can [348] be successful in this business? (A) In the cooler business, we would make such connections as would take on such units for use in the way that would open the channel for a general distribution of such products in this immediate vicinity. These may be had in many places where there is such product, or the substitute for such product, now being used - as depots, as places where there

is the necessity of distribution for the use of that which is added by such a product, as in some wholesale and manufacturing points, as in the government points - both in hospital and office where large orders are necessary. These channels would offer outlets on the basis that has been set out as a policy for the distribution of such products. With the sale of five to ten there would be easily made then the connection for a distributor that would handle the same, as it would through the direct sales, and enable the body [348] to make a greater expansion of the product in this immediate territory, quicker delivery, handling and financing of same much more easily done.
6. (Q) Who would be best customer in Norfolk? (A) As outlined, any of these lines or channels - both in Norfolk and Portsmouth, and surrounding country.
7. (Q) What will be best cities to begin cooler selling? (A) At home!
8. (Q) What is best selling medium - water distribution, direct sales to large consumers by our own salesman, or what quickest and best for large immediate sales? (A) As outlined, best - under the existent circumstances - that some direct sales be made. Then through a general distributor, see?
9. (Q) Should [257] endeavor to find another unit or can he depend on Zerozone supplying the needs? (A) We would use the Zerozone, as being the most economical - and one of the best units.
10. (Q) What will Lauterstein's attitude be on furnishing units when he sees [257] Corp. successful? (A) This should be attended to, and should HAVE been attended to long before this! but MAKE the best contract, or trade, as may be had for the furnishing of these, in the units that may be distributed in this way and manner; but have this definite! Do not allow it to be as SOME have been in distributing centers heretofore!
11. (Q) What should [257]'s attitude be to Lauterstein group? (A) They are all in the same bag! Well, hold it as it is! One is just as necessary to the other, and it's necessary that it be held so!
12. (Q) Should [257] develop [348]'s sponge rubber cleaner? (A) If he sees fit!
13. (Q) Would it be profitable? (A) Be made profitable! but wouldn't be profitable to just make it and sit down and wait! Be made profitable! It's a SELLING proposition - doesn't sell itself! Sells itself when SHOWN - when demonstrated; and should be, preferably, as a house to house proposition, with a distributing center
257-86 Page 3
in whatever territory would be covered by same.
14. (Q) Should patent on this be applied for now, before beginning manufacture and distribution? (A) Best to have patent applied for before beginning general distribution, though they may begin the manufacture of same.
15. (Q) What is best name for this cleaner? (A) As given, this may be called the Kahnstant Kleaner, or [348] Cleaner, or whatever is necessary.
16. (Q) What should this article cost to manufacture, and what should be selling price? (A) From 37 cents to 48 cents should be the cost, and should sell for $1.50 to $2.00.
17. (Q) Any suggestions for changes or improvements to cut the cost of manufacture? (A) Very good as it is!
18. (Q) Would it be advisable to have sponge treated - etc.? (A) Not in the beginning. The durability of these is excellent, if they are made as this has been started - with the backs to backs, and made of the same WEIGHT as in the samples.
19. (Q) Please review benefit to [257] by business conditions just happened, and also advantages by settling all his suits against Pick organization. (A) As given heretofore, the necessity of the body - in the needs of experience in its various associations, and ONE especially - not to talk TOO much about the breadth of the associations of self! The settling of all claims will enable the body to use many of the connections in various portions of the country where business may be handled, to not only FINANCE but to MAKE those connections that would offer a channel for sale, distribution AND financing of products that may be sold by [257] organization.
20. (Q) Can sponge cleaner be sold successfully through department stores? (A) This is an excellent way and manner. Better, as we find, as a house to house - WITH a distributing center, or an exhibition made and then the house to house canvas made.
21. (Q) Which is it better, for cleaning wall papers or floors? (A) Wall papers the NATURAL thing, but as excellent for floors if only used on those where wax AND varnish have been used.
22. (Q) Are there any other purposes for which it could be used? (A) Very good window cleaner!
23. (Q) How can the Manufacturers Trust and Harvey Gibson aid [257] in present business? (A) Make the connections for financing of various
257-86 Page 4
propositions in their associations.
24. (Q) How can we develop a means to join carbonated water with water bottle cooler, to sell soft drinks more readily with a vending machine? (A) This will not for some time be made wholly a satisfactory proposition; while a vending machine of such nature for BOTTLED drinks could be made very easily. Those that will carry the dumping or mixing of the carbonated water must of necessity make rather an expensive proposition, and would only be for the larger centers; while the vending of carbonated drinks in BOTTLES may cover such a GREAT territory - there's hardly any comparison! Just about the same amount, or illustration of the amount would be the comparison of the Coca-Cola distribution as a fountain drink, or carbonated drink only, and WHEN bottled!
25. (Q) Please name a good engineer or manufacturer on this. (A) There are those who are already working on this - these are very good. Or any of those in any of the novelty machine companies. But it will be some time before it is perfected, and look what has been lost in opportunity, especially during such periods, and judge for self as to what the difference in the scope of territory that may be covered. Fix the unit Kahnstant Kooler in such a form as to distribute bottled drinks, and you have a mint!
26. (Q) How may this best be done? (A) Just make same of sufficient capacity that it runs as a chain - very much in the same way and manner as they are filled, and as you press the lever and drop in a coin the bottle is ready - just drink it!
27. (Q) Who would be best soft drink concern to show this to? (A) Orange Crush, or any of the Cola drinks.
28. We are through for the present. Copy to Mr. [257] " " File " " Mr. [348]
