1. GC: You will have before you [257], who is in the office of Albert Jevins, 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, Delaware; his corporation and his associates. You will please go over his affairs and advise him in detail as to what he should do now to be successful in N.Y. market to insure carrying out of all plans in 1933. Then answer the questions in full, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind, [257], the associations and connections, the conditions that have transpired in the last few weeks.

3. Now, as we find, some very much worth while connections and contacts have been made. There might have been expected some more and a larger display of interests from these various connections, yet when the general conditions are considered, the associations in every direction and field, these - as we find - should all be very encouraging to EVERYONE interested in the undertaking.

4. In meeting the various conditions that must arise, then, that face the various departments and the various activities of individuals concerning their relationships, the activities should be much in the same lines that have oft been outlined. In the same manner that self would be done by, or to, so present self's activities, so act in the relationships to those whom each individual would interest in the undertaking. Then it will be seen that a proposition builded on this basis, and with this policy, MUST work for the general good - and on a firm foundation. For, if there are made special inducements that are beyond the ken of such a policy, this action must eventually - if not in the immediate future - work to the undoing of many. If there are presented any activities toward taking advantage of a friendship, or any association, of a policy of any particular organization, these must eventually bring contentions and discouragements - that make for rather

257-98 Page 2

destructive building in such an association.

5. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Reference Zerozone: Go over meeting, advise next step for me to proceed with, and as to whether I should use legal steps to correct condition which occurred in today's meeting. (A) Legal steps should only be, as we find, a last resort; and not in any antagonistic way or manner; for such broils at this particular stage of the formation of associations and connections must work for hardships, also the DELAYING of many associations and connections that would be worth while. There SHOULD be the ability to reach an amicable settlement without resorting to legal action; for such would only breed contention and make question marks - and, wherever, whenever possible, should be avoided. If there is no other recourse, then of necessity such conditions must be met - but with that one policy, that the organization is built for a service to its fellow man, in a field and through a product that is worthy of acceptation, that has a place in the scheme of affairs with individuals seeking a service or needing a service in this particular field.

7. (Q) Should I insist on being the director of the company? (A) AMONG the directors, to be sure; but there should not be an organization in which the body would be spoken of or referred to as carrying two chips on his shoulders, that is working for and against also those that are giving their all in the belief or understanding that undivided attention is to be given in one given line. These conditions must be decided within self.

8. (Q) Please review two weeks market and inform us whether we built solidly for our future and correct our procedure if necessary. (A) In so far as the contacts made and the policy followed were in line with that which has been outlined again and again should be the policy, should be the aim, should be the idea of this organization, just so far has the building been well. Where special inducements have been made, that are outside such a policy, either in those few where advantages might have been taken or where the policies have been altered by some variation in type, style or understanding in the box OR unit, these are out of line. There must come at this particular time, then, that decision in self as to whether there is a place now where a division of the product or unit is worth while considering, in the light of the experience that has been gained by the association and the connections which have been made. Then, if these are compatible with the better conditions, the better policies, and in line with that which may be

257-98 Page 3

accomplished, well and good! If these make for questionings, as to the inability of the present financing association - the present financing plans that are set up; if any of these 257-98 Pagae 3 associations and connections are jeopardized, then bring them in line!

9. (Q) Did we follow the plans precisely as the Forces advised? (A) If you had, we would have said it was okay at first!

10. (Q) What move should we now make to carry our work to more complete success? (A) Work like THUNDER!

11. (Q) Reference Chas. Ryan, V-Pres. Montgomery Ward in Chicago Ave. Bridge office, the merchandise man, tell us just what we must now do to be successful in getting the order for the units and the boxes. (A) It would be well that all the various channels be used to insure this merchandise man that the order, the delivery, the unit, is and will be that which has been represented; that it is in line with all that has been promised. Then, this channel would be well. It requires the presence of the director or the producer in box, as well as the one that would furnish the units for same; and these MUST all COORDINATE with what has been presented by each one in this organization! If there is a diverging from the policies that have been presented as being the policies of the organization, then - of course - it must bring about dissension.

12. (Q) What additional arguments can we use to cinch the business at once? (A) As we have given.

13. (Q) Will there be a change in the buyer Perkins? (A) We do not find it so, as yet.

14. (Q) Should I go to Chicago again in reference this order, or should it be left entirely with Johnson of Universal and Moritz Kahn of Truscon? (A) It would be well that they all coordinate together! so

257-98 Page 4

the same tale is told!

15. (Q) Should Julius Kahn go to see Avery, his friend, who is Pres. of Ward's? (A) It would be WELL; but this must come rather as an added inducement - or not as the direct bearing upon same, but as the natural result OF an association or connection. It would be well for him to see him, however!

16. (Q) When should he go? (A) When it's necessary! Now!

17. (Q) Should I accompany him? (A) That depends upon whether you are to accompany the other two, or this one! This should be judged by the needs of the situation, and go where it is understood that the same story is to be told by all three!

18. (Q) What statement should be made to Avery, in order not to antagonize Ryan or Perkins and yet to get the business? (A) We have indicated that this should be rather of an inducement, that would make for only a word from Avery - this may not be the exact words, but such as: "These boxes and units appear to be the best proposition. I would consider them." Think of what that would mean, coming from Avery! to Ryan or Perkins, or to both!

19. (Q) What price range will appeal to Ward's for 1933 line? (A) Stay to the price range that has been indicated.

20. (Q) What will appeal mostly to Chas. Ryan in approaching him to buy our complete line for Ward's? (A) Remember what has been said, as to what the policy must be! If you'll stick to that one, it will be well.

21. (Q) How can we close the Gamble-Skogmo business of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. Allan Mills being the buyer? (A) That channel through which it has been opened for the larger units and boxes will be the channel through which the whole undertaking may be handled.

22. (Q) Will Geo. Stabler of Butler Bros. give us an order for all their branches? (A) They will give a trial order!

23. (Q) Has [1565] handled this in the proper manner? (A) Very good. Let him carry it through.

24. (Q) Advise [1565] as to manner to further handle Stewart- Warner box order. (A) This is being handled very well. We would keep on in the same way that it is being worked.

25. (Q) Will Stewart-Warner make their own mechanical unit or will they buy it for 1933? (A) The greater portion of their units will be bought. Their unit - the one that is being worked on - has not been perfected nor tested out sufficiently for them as yet; so

257-98 Page 5

the greater portion of their UNITS will be purchased elsewhere.

26. (Q) Is there a better coast representative for us than Stanley Hartman, who is now in N.Y.C. and lives in Los Angeles? (A) This contact would be very well. We would approach those that should be the distributors in that particular territory, that ONE through whom Hartman has the connection and line at present - but don't let him OVER sell them!

27. (Q) On present basis, how many complete boxes should we sell in 1933? (A) About ten thousand.

28. (Q) How many units only? (A) This will depend upon the orders that will come from those various organizations, where in one the box and in another the unit will be purchased separately. This will also depend much upon what disposition is to be made with the Universal and Zerozone units.

29. (Q) What new plans should we use to get the full quota for 1933? (A) Follow that which has been given, as to what the policy should be; and this should not only be the policy of ONE - but of EVERY MEMBER of the organization! This doesn't mean being goody-goody, but being honest with self and the other fellow too!
