Time of Reading 10:30 to 10:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C.
1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [257], of 501 Madison Ave., N.Y.C., in connection with H. H. Daniels whose quarters are at the entrance of the Post at Fort Myers, Va., and whose office is in the Quarter-Master Laundry at Fort Myers, Va., also in connection with Sam Green, president of the Newark Cleaning & Dye Works, 20 Broome St., Newark, N.J. You will answer the questions he has submitted, as I ask them.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257]; this we have had before, also those associations and connections with the interests of H. H. Daniels of Fort Myers, Va., and S. S. Green of Newark, N.J.
3. Ready for questions.
4. (Q) Please advise me as to the dependability of H. H. Daniels. (A) Personally, dependability is excellent. The relations that exist, and the requirements that are necessary under the orders and specifications, these - of course - run in their regular order.
5. (Q) Will Daniels sign the contract with me for the dyeing of the garments? (A) Provided it's all in order and in line with those specifications that have been set, and that are necessary in the routine of all work of this order and nature. Provided the samples and the interest that is shown are in line with these, there will be the order. It would be well, then, as soon as these have been gotten in shape, that [257] and Green - together, with their specifications, with their abilities shown in the proper order, and proper way and manner - present same for the activity of Daniels as concerning these relations.
6. (Q) How should this contract be drawn for the protection of Daniels and [257] in order to prevent any criticism in the future? (A) In the regular order. As all contracts for such
257-107 Page 2
specified work, for all operations of the kind, should be in line - in the way and manner as outlined for same.
7. (Q) Is it necessary to have another associated, J. F. Lewis, in this business arrangement? (A) Not necessary for other than the associations and connections, for it may be overburdened by too many talks or too many activities in attempting to carry through such activities!
8. (Q) Green assures me that he can deliver merchandise of proper quality and on time. Is there anything further that I must do in this situation? (A) Just only satisfy self that these statements have been and are the basis for the activities, in the way and manner as would be done BY - and when this is in order, then go ahead.
9. (Q) Is the financial set-up as suggested by Green as to the taking of the order and the billing of the merchandise, satisfactory? (A) Would be satisfactory, provided it is in line with those specifications necessary for Daniels to require of each and every organization, or institution, that does work through these same kind of channels.
10. (Q) What day should I go to Washington and see Daniels for the closing of the contract? (A) As intimated and given oft, as soon as there is the satisfaction - or satisfactory arrangements made, and this can be shown; not by word of mouth nor just black and white, but by the fulfilling - or the specifications that are required for such; then present same. Don't wait on it! There's others that'll be hunting for it, too!
11. (Q) Is it best to have the contract made between the government and the Newark Cleaning & Dye Works, 20 Broome St., Newark, which is owned by Green? (A) It's best to be made so that these may be responsible for the delivery, or for any conditions that arise that MIGHT not be satisfactory; or should any QUESTIONS arise.
12. (Q) Should I take Green with me to Washington for the closing of the contract? (A) Be necessary, if it is to be made in this order.
13. (Q) Accepting the order as now suggested by Green at the price agreed upon with Daniels and Green, handled through me, is there any possibility of criticism in any way, shape or manner, provided the merchandise is shipped on time and of proper quality? (A) No question may be asked, provided it is in line with the regular specifications through the government channels, as necessary for activities of the nature and character.
14. (Q) Please advise me fully of any other information I
257-107 Page 3
should have for the successful carrying out of this complete arrangement. (A) Do THESE, and you'll have the whole condition in shape for the complete carrying on of this association and connection, and the order.
15. That is all the questions.
