Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Body & enquiring mind in regard to all associations & changes. Advice necessary, & questions)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257].
2. In regards those associations, as we find, there are some changes in the general conditions since last we had same here. As for any definite policy respecting those that the associations are with, and regarding definite contracts, we do not find that any material change has yet been made.
3. As we have given, close contact should be kept with the varied activities; both in respect to the activity of Lewis as well as those consultations and activities by Gilbert, for these must be watched also, else there will be some actions that go beyond that which has been maintained by Gilbert is to be the policy of those concerned.
4. Ready for questions.
5. (Q) As John Sloan of Sloan & Robertson, Graybar Bldg., 425 Lexington Ave., N.Y.C., was awarded contract to build the new 16 million dollar housing project in N.Y.. please advise how I can work into this project and what I can furnish. (A) Through those channels that are necessary for obtaining bids or the necessary connections that may be had for the supplying of the products in line of the body's activity, these will offer the correct way and manner. To be sure, through the associations this may be approached directly through Sloan and associates, as to who, where, such estimates are to be - and may be - furnished.
6. (Q) Is it better to approach through Abe Adelson, to whom Sloan sent me, or direct with Sloan himself? (A) Would be well that since contract was awarded (or is considered as being active) there be again the approach through Sloan, for these of necessity make changes; though Adelson will be one to be considered, to be sure.
7. (Q) What does Sloan think of me, my ability and integrity? (A) This may be best be judged by the manner of reception, and to whom - and the connections to whom - Sloan may send the body, in this approach.
257-114 Page 2
8. (Q) On what basis should the work be handled by me to the utmost satisfaction? (A) In the way and manner that meets those specifications necessary in all contracts of this nature, as reached through Sloan and associates in handling projects of this nature, there being a regular routine set out that will be designated by Sloan and associates if the proper consideration is given. And, as given, it will be the channel through which the body may gain the understanding of what the body thinks of the abilities connections, associations, contacts.
9. (Q) Will I be able to furnish electric stoves, refrigerators, and metal kitchens to fit the needs and specifications of Sloan development? (A) Can! As to whether they will, that's different! They can!
10. (Q) What else does my experience place me in position to furnish for these buildings? (A) This may best be judged by the consultation with those that have the supplying or furnishing of the various equipments that may that may be necessary throughout.
11. (Q) Will I be able to work with Truscon Steel on the products they make? (A) Should be.
12. (Q) They have their own office in N.Y. Will my work interfere with them? (A) Should not, if the approach is through the body.
13. (Q) Should I explain to Julius Kahn at once what my plans are? (A) With the proper association and connection to know that it may be handled through self, be well.
14. (Q) In what way could Carolina Wood Products Co., Asheville factory, be used to advantage of this project? (A) This depends upon how far they are to go in the supplying of products that may be handled through this character of organization. This may be best determined as the conditions advance, or as the development advances in its activity.
15. (Q) Should I invite Sloan into the Carolina project or handle only as a manufacturing plan and sell to Sloan thru whatever agency he suggests? (A) Through whatever agency he suggests would be better.
16. (Q) Would it be financially successful to build trim and other wood products for the general building at Asheville, or attempt to make a deal with a firm the type of Bosserts of Brooklyn? (A) We do not find that either of these would be practical

in this particular development at this time. It may be worked farther along, provided there is made the proper connections with this development organization at this time. But to press too far without the proper introduction, association or connections for the variations of these, would be going too far at the present time.
17. (Q) Will much wood be used, or should I concentrate on the metal only? (A) Metal.
18. (Q) What metal factory in the West would be best for me to connect with? (A) The associations and connections are already established for these activities, both as to the supply and that in which the body is directly engaged; and these we would stick to.
19. (Q) Should I explain all of my plans to Kronich, who is in Sloan's employ, or only discuss with Sloan alone? (A) Sloan alone, and to those to whom the body would direct.
20. (Q) Would it be advisable for me to find a place on Sloan's staff, or work independently as I have always done? (A) Independently, in the present, to be sure. This has been intimated and given, as to how the connections should be.
21. (Q) Should I inform Sloan in detail as to my present [3734] and similar associations, or best not to confuse him? (A) Best not to confuse him at present, provided there is a clean activity throughout. Do not allow self to become entangled in such a way and manner as to make for an estrangement at this time.
22. (Q) What would cause an estrangement at this time, as I do not understand? (A) To make the bid for the connection and proposition, and then have to be carried through some other channel for handling.
23. (Q) How can I prove to Sloan's absolute satisfaction my desire to follow the plans and give him 100% honest and efficient association? (A) Do not fear that the whole connection and association and activities of self, from entering into the commercial field as well as through the war records, are not already in the hands of Sloan. Then to meet or measure up those is the only way.
24. (Q) As to water coolers at Washington, why haven't I heard from Lewis today? (A) Still working on those connections and associations as given.
257-114 Page 4
25. (Q) Should I wait to hear from him, or telephone him tonight? (A) Telephone him. As given, keep on to the thing! This has been given again and again!
26. (Q) Reference water coolers for the Post Offices throughout the U.S., should Abe Adelson handle this matter as suggested for entire country through Farley? (A) This would be the proper connection.
27. (Q) Is it plausible and possible to work a National deal of this kind at this season? (A) It's plausible, possible and reasonable, but such can be set in motion when there is considered the great number of buildings of the kind that are being supplied and getting ready for supplying of same throughout the country at this time.
28. (Q) Is there a more direct way than thru Adelson? (A) We do not find one. He's in the same clique and ring, and you must go through it!
29. (Q) To whom should plan be submitted in Washington? before Farley? (A) If it's to be handled through one ring or channel, to submit or even to tamper with jeopardizes the possibility of carrying through! You either have the right connections and it will go through, or you mess yourself up!
30. (Q) What will be next move on part of Jack Gilbert in [3734] [900] matter, as he has withdrawn all papers today from Steurer's office? (A) As given, this must be followed up closely. There should be the connection made, and an understanding reached. He hasn't reached the decision as to what is to be done in the matter, until the consultation is gained with the body!
31. (Q) Will he hear from [900]'s office, or is the matter closed as far as present negotiations are concerned? (A) He must hear again.
32. (Q) Should I have anything to do with the new suits threatened in the East Coast sales for people I represented, in order to bring pressure to bear on them, or what is it advisable for me to do? (A) This has been covered in that given, that through this very channel there might be the connection made wherein all of these might be settled in an amicable manner, by butting one against the other in the activities throughout, and yet make for a settlement more satisfactory on self's part.
33. (Q) Reference [3734] suits against [257] Corp. served last week, what will be the outcome? (A) As given regarding this, depending upon the manner in which they are handled and the activities of self during the time in which these are being carried out.
257-114 Page 5
34. (Q) What will be next move of [3734]'s against me? (A) This depends upon the association or connections, or how far it is carried with Gilbert respecting the [900] matter.
35. (Q) What will be outcome of present investigation of Sterzer, the income tax man? (A) If all are in order, these will be all satisfactory.
36. (Q) Reference metal houses wanted by Quartermaster Corps., and designed by Truscon Steel, will Lewis be able to get an order on them as he states? (A) There is the possibility, not very probable at the present season or time. As we find, this will be somewhat later.
37. (Q) Should [257] proceed through Lewis or direct to the Quartermaster whom he knows personally? (A) Work with Lewis AND the Quartermaster, but go direct to the Quartermaster.
38. (Q) Which type of the two houses submitted by Truscon would be the better and most successful house? (A) That that offers the better ventilation in all times or seasons.
39. (Q) What about the new type of board? (A) This is part of the very activity as given, the one that offers the better - which is the new type.
40. (Q) Following the advice of the Forces, I saw Daniels again in Washington on the dyeing proposition. He still insists it will go through. He never keeps an appointment and I'm at a loss to know whether to believe him or not. What is it advised for me to do? (A) Inasmuch as the contract or the whole proposition has been handled through this course, or this channel, and - as advised, it would be very well provided the body acted in the capacity, but there was given as to how these two should be brought together and the understanding with the ones that were to perform the activities for the contract to know through whom and how it was handled - as we find, it will eventually be carried through, in part, through Daniels.
41. (Q) Will I be able to handle it with Daniels? (A) As given, if the connections are made and they are satisfactory as to the way they are to be handled, then the body will be in; otherwise he will be out!
42. (Q) Considering the various things, is the body making the proper preparation, from the standpoint of his health and his mental figuring, to carry these things out successfully? (A) These are very good. As intimated and given in the activities for self, first there must be the proper consideration given as to the health and the activities of
257-114 Page 6
the body physically and mentally. That's as number one! In making the associations and connections, choose well as to the channels through whom the activities of the various connections and associations go. As experienced by the body, the proper choice of associates, channel or connection or contact, is proper. Then, when made, do not belittle self by going over or around, or belittle the other fellow or go over or around someone else! It'll succeed much better!
