1. HLC: [257] appears before the Throne for guidance and humbly requests the Giver of all gifts to lay out his best and quickest plan to earn a sufficient remuneration to meet his needs and those dependent upon him. You will have his associates and associations, and after giving him his definite plan, please answer the questions for his guidance.
2. EC: There are, as we find, specific conditions existent that have for the time - through the channels that have been indicated - been held in abeyance, owing to the lack of the appropriation of funds in certain channels, through the associations that have been established for months, that will soon turn into those channels that will make for the immediate needs and activities of the body.
3. There are also those associations in those fields indicated in the connection in the regular activities of the body, that are to be more active in their establishing for the connections those things that will bring about satisfactory returns in the next few weeks. Also those connections in which there are being made those establishments in the activity as related to the containers, that are working to a satisfactory end.
4. Then, press on in those connections, each that has been set out and that are only awaiting the activities of those that are in the position to make, in fact, the orders. Ready for questions.
5. (Q) Will Croft accept balance of barrels from Klausner, after the present car now being manufactured at Cleveland is shipped? (A) If these measure up to standards that have been set as requirements, they will be accepted, and - as given - these that are being prepared will meet, as we find, the requirements. What's the answer?
6. (Q) In how far was Croft justified as to his stand taken on the first car shipped to him? (A) In that way and manner in which these did not meet
257-124 Page 2
those requirements that were made as specific portion of the connections, then these were correct.
7. (Q) Should [257] again go to see Croft? (A) If it hadn't been given that these could be made to be satisfactory and to meet the needs and demands, then it would be necessary that he should see him again.
8. (Q) Is there any personal or special arrangement to be made with Croft by [257]? (A) Only to meet the requirements that have been set forth in the specifications for the products themselves.
9. (Q) What effect will Klausner non-union shop have on Croft order being filled? (A) This in some respects makes quite a difference in some of the associations, but if the products meet the requirements these may be overcome. By Klausner.
10. (Q) Or doing business with Klausner? (A) These concessions must be made by Klausner, to carry on with these.
11. (Q) Will Klausner join the Union? (A) Not as forcing, but as making for the better connections, the better associations, and to carrying out. Then these fall back on the proposition, it must be these will come.
12. (Q) What progress has [257] made with Geo. A. Trommer on barrels? (A) There is still considered the conditions, yet these for some minor reasons - that are, as we find, promises; and are connections in others have not been wholly satisfactory or wholly closed, but we would keep the connections, and not over stretch or over sell, but first make for those needs that are the needs of Trommer and these should work.
13. (Q) Shall I submit a sample of the Long Island barrels on Wednesday as suggested by Trommer? (A) We would submit the sample.
14. (Q) Will [257] be able to sell 75,000 barrels to Trommer for his two breweries, as promised by Trommer - when and how can [257] close soon? (A) By presenting that product and the price that meets the requirements of Trommer, and the beginning of that order will begin. Until these meet the requirements, don't expect it.
15. (Q) What price would be agreeable on the present market? (A) Six and a half, as we find.
16. (Q) What is the personal regard of Trommer for [257] and his ability? (A) Very good. VERY good.
17. (Q) Direct [257] best manner and plan to merge Trommer
257-124 Page 3
with other Liquor interests - giving best working plan for Trommer - and the best associates for advantage of Trommer business, for national distribution. (A) As we find, while this is considered, and while there has been some consideration and interest spoken of, and that might be helpful, yet the whole situation as to the general conditions in the country - as to the general situations - does not offer for the best interest of Trommer for such an association in the immediate. After the first fifteen days of the coming month, when there is a little activity and distribution in these products, then there will be gradually sifted out or gradually associations and connections made that in the present in some offer some wonderful looking prospects that won't work so well. Hence after that period we would ask this over again; we might be more helpful.
18. (Q) What advantages are there for Trommer to join with Foreign Vintages, Inc., whose general manager is Edward Paine of 165 B'way, and Vice-President Chas. Wanzer of Standard Oil Co., 26 B'way? This appointment has been made for Wednesday. (A) These all have been intimated from that just given above. WONDERFUL connections, but as to a working basis - until there has been some activity, as may be termed, in an open field, we do not find that the advantages for Trommer would be worked out in the present, unless there was a great deal more of concessions made by the Standard or National brands than is intimated or felt necessary in the present. For, in the general distribution, those of the wines will require an outlet such as may be had through such channels as Trommer's interests, connections and association in a wide field. Why hamper self in the present? This doesn't sound just right to [257] in the present, but he will see why in a few days.
19. (Q) Is [257] handling his affairs properly by being interested in Shoes, Coolers, Liquor, Barrels, Burners, for a success in his business in his business life or should he concentrate on just one line of products; if so, considering present condition what should his activities be for November and December? (A) This condition in the experiences of [257] has been covered in information that has been given from time to time. True, while in instances there has been given concentration on one line of endeavor, and there has been given in others a period when direct questions have been asked as to the advisability of branching out or seeking in this general direction, if these then are all correlated as to their relative position in the activities, the body is
257-124 Page 4
capable of handling all of these. But if they are allowed to interfere one with the other, and thus become entanglements and only give something to talk about without any real activity on the part of the individuals that are brought together, then it's not so good! Hence, as indicated, in the present use those three outlines that have been given for the coming six to eight weeks; first the Cooler situation that has been on the amount sufficient to reach or meet the needs in certain channels and directions, as is understood. There are also the barrel interests that have been started. Do not start and let a thing collapse on self's hands. See it through, or else it becomes a detriment to the body in the activities of other fields. There have also been some regulations as to making associations and connections in other lines. These we would carry through for the next six to eight weeks.
20. (Q) Should [257] Corp. be continued since Weisburgh works direct from factory, or should we change the name and let it remain inactive until after Feb. 1934 when refrigeration business again opens up? (A) This would be the better situation, to let it remain inactive - but carry on.
21. (Q) Should the name be changed? (A) We would not change the name.
22. (Q) Should [257] arrange to take on sales agencies for Novelty furniture and Oil Burners as discussed in Monday night's meeting with Feinsilver of Federal and Sterling Oil Burner Co. of Boston, Mass.? (A) If carried under those activities of others rather than of self, provided [257] is capable and assured that the handling of same will be done in the way as [257] directs. But don't give self's time to it!
23. (Q) Is Philip Marcus capable of handling it? (A) Capable of DIRECTING it, if [257] supervises.
24. (Q) In what way and manner can [257] become affiliated with the Liquor industry of the U.S. which promises such large returns? (A) As we find, it would be better to be an interest with Trommer interests and gradually work into that which may be the handling; for there is a close association there that may be bloomed - or brought to bloom into a connection that would be very well.
