Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Body & enquiring mind - Questions)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257]; this we have had before.
2. Ready for questions.
3. (Q) Should [257] accept the contract sent him by Sailors from Showers, as it is, or ask for the revisions as to length of time, renewal, and other details as shown in the copy of letter attached to the contract that is in the upper left hand drawer in his desk, in large room, 24th floor, 101 W. 31st St., Pereles office - the desk has [257]'s name on it. (A) Accept the contract as it is. A letter with provisions providing that [257] demonstrates by his abilities as salesman and as a producer of business for the extension, renewal or the like, may be very well; but we would accept the contract as it is.
Let this be as [257]'s presenting to Showers those abilities that have been given as word of mouth. For if there is the producing of the business with the least amount of disturbance with character of accounts, with the least shaving of prices as possible save in specific cases, then there may be expected renewal, etc. But unless [257] can show Showers he ([257]) is a PRODUCER for SHOWERS' profit, there is little to be expected in the way of extension or renewal or any other of the details as indicated. However, if [257] is capable (and he is!) of showing that he CAN produce, then he will be sought after. Not how close can Showers figure, but how much can [257] get from the customer for self and Showers, see? Let that be the attitude, throughout; and we will find this will make for an association and a connection worth while.
4. (Q) Will it be necessary for [257] to go out there again? (A) If it is accepted in this manner, NOT necessary.
5. (Q) Any other advice? (A) Much might be said, but this is as sought; this adhere
