Time of Reading 9:40 to 10:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Physical, Mental and Material Body. Questions.)
1. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, [257]; this we have had before.
2. Ready for questions.
3. (Q) Since I have complied with the instructions as given in the last reading - (A) (Interrupting) Partially.
4. (Q) (Continuing) Please advise me what I should now do to put my body in better physical shape. (A) Continue with those suggestions in a CONSISTENT manner. For, as is seen, the strain upon the alimentary canal - as indicated by the activity of the sphincter muscles in the lower portion, showing bloody stool - is the effect of a disturbed circulation. With those massages, and especially an adjustment made in the 9th and 10th DORSAL, we would alleviate this condition. Also, rather than any strong drink, there should be red wine taken WITH bread; for it is a food. Not beer, not ale. Occasionally white wine, or RED wine; or the mixed - that are not heavy - are very good. But red wine taken regularly with bread - black bread - is good.
5. (Q) What sweets are best for me? (A) Honey, marmalade (especially orange and the like).
6. (Q) How often should massages and cabinet sweats be taken at Reilly's? (A) At least once a week; OFTENER if there is too much strain.
7. (Q) What weight should I maintain at all times? (A) About one fifty-six. [GD's note: He was about 5'6".]
8. (Q) How can I keep myself at that weight? (A) Such a foolish question! By keeping the correct diet, the correct activities; and, as has SO OFT been given, by BUDGETING the time!

9. (Q) Having followed the advice as to contract on Showers Bros., will Mr. Sailors give me a letter covering the changes at Chicago? (A) This, as has been indicated, should preferably be written by self or self's attorney and then okayed.
10. (Q) Should I change present plan of announcement to trade by personal visit, or what will be best plan? (A) Personal visit is the better plan.
11. (Q) Considering I have Eastern Division from Washington, D.C., to tip of Maine, what territory should I keep for myself? (A) New York and environs.
12. (Q) How much average on other men working for me should I take as my commission on their sales for directions? (A) Two present.
13. (Q) Will Bernard Lippin, 46 W. 95th St., be the best man for New England? (A) Be very good. Though there are some unsatisfactory conditions in the background, we would have these cleared - and we find it would be very good.
14. (Q) Should one or two men be given Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington? (A) Two.
15. (Q) Should all men carry full line, or have specialty men? (A) The full line at the present. Specialty as the conditions arise and make for the abilities for the spreading of the business.
16. (Q) What is best approach for me to use with Shaughnessy, the head buyer at R. H. Macy & Co., to get his cooperation and friendship? (A) Just as has been in the past, in the manner in which the approaches have been made. These are well and should be used. These, of course, work first on specialties and then - as may be seen - may be worked in through this way and manner, just as has been heretofore.
17. (Q) How best to interest E. A. Thompson of Sterling, and his buyer Sidney Manley, to get largest share of business? (A) Through not so much the CUTTING of prices, but rather that of quality and the ability to serve when and HOW needed.
18. (Q) What does Leslie Sailors, Gen. Mgr. of Showers, feel about me now since my visit? (A) He's waiting to see what will be the activity. Good deal been said; then there's a good deal to be lived up to! Then DO it!
19. (Q) Guy Burnett, the President? (A) About the same.

20. (Q) What can I do now to further ingratiate myself to E. E. Dunning of Gen. Elec., Bridgeport, Conn.? (A) Keep in the way that has been heretofore.
21. (Q) In order that I can improve myself, or cultivate, or do what is necessary to regain and hold complete confidence of Dunning, please tell me what is his real feeling now to me. (A) About the same as has been heretofore; which has been manifested by the activities of the body respecting same. Don't overdo the graciousness.
22. (Q) Will factory of Showers Bros. ship the present order in strict expectancy of Dunning, or should I go out there and follow it up further? If so, when? (A) This has been indicated before, and we do not find any changes from that which has been already given.
23. (Q) What should I do in regard to having a show room in N. Y.? (A) Not well in the present. This would be an over or excess burden for the present. But as there begins to be the regular opening of accounts with the various ones, this will be very well.
24. (Q) What plan of operation will get me the business of Ludwig Baumann, Lee Zimmern, 8th Ave., N. Y.? (A) The same way and manner in which there is the activity. Seek out their specialties. Not their specialties in the cheapest; but their specialties that make for, as it were, the money-producing portion of their business. And in THIS line make the approach.
25. (Q) What should I do about the handling of small accounts in Metropolitan area, N. Y.? (A) This should be handled through either the activities of an individual that will eventually be made for the show room, or individuals that are in order for the shipments to go through.
26. (Q) Will the present sample line as being made at factory be satisfactory for Eastern buyers who will see it in Chicago? (A) Very good.
27. (Q) Am I mentally prepared now to make a success of so large an undertaking, since I have been out of the furniture business so long? (A) Mentally prepared.
28. (Q) Should I have Philip Marcus associated with me at this time? (A) A little later. When it's time for the next opening or the next show.
257-151 Page 4
29. (Q) Bro. [2653]? (A) In the same way and manner as he has heretofore in his associations with either some individual through whom same may be handled, or making for some particular or specific territory to be handled by him.
30. (Q) [Bro.-in-law [1565]]? (A) Better stay where he is!
31. (Q) [Bro. [4163]]? (A) Keep his own lines.
32. (Q) Should I attempt to get Government order from Quartermaster Dept. direct or is it better to work through Jack Lewis of 3350 W. 17th St.? (A) Direct. And go through the necessary channels for this making for the best; submitting the specifications, or have the specifications submitted and then let the organization or the factory make for and do it for self.
33. (Q) Will Lewis ever be able to get the water cooler order that he has promised to me for so long? (A) In part, as has been indicated; eventually.
34. (Q) Any further advice for the body at this time? (A) Make first, as the changes have come about, the patterning of self along specific lines. As has been indicated, keep a normal mental, physical and spiritual balance. Give so much time for reading, for study; so much time for social obligations; so much time for business. KEEP these inviolate.
