Time of Reading 11:30 to 11:55 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. ([257] and his associates and business conditions. You will please advise him what to do to carry out these plans successfully and fairly to all concerned. Questions.)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257]; this we have had before.
2. There have been and are those disturbing conditions that arise through the anxieties that are seen and experienced between the buyer and the manufacturer, and the anxiety of [257] as related to the desire for orders and to get those relationships established. Yet, as we find, these are progressing in a very satisfactory way and manner. There are days or times when the activities are discouraging, yet these should be kept in all the ways and manners we have indicated. Not how cheap, nor altogether how MUCH may be procured from this or that association. Yet these, as we find, kept in a considerate manner for all concerned will work to the greater advantage for the body [257].
3. Ready for questions.
4. (Q) Please review the development of [257]'s furniture business at N.Y. office and at the factory in Mr. Burnett's [and] Mr. Sailors' office at Bloomington, Ind. Has [257] made sufficient progress for the time at work thus far, and advise as to means to better standing with trade and factory. (A) As we find, this is very good considering all conditions and circumstances. And as we find there is a very favorable outlook, not only for [257] but as to those associates in the factory, as to [257]'s abilities, [257]'s activities. These are very satisfactory in the present. As related to the trade in general, this - as indicated - requires that there be the proper consideration given all concerned, and then continue to work at those various conditions that present themselves; keeping an eye open to the manner in which the greater service may be rendered in every relationship.

5. (Q) How can he further improve his work and get more business? (A) Work the harder!
6. (Q) Will the factory accept the order for 5000 radio cabinets for the Emerson Radio Co. which [257] submitted this week? (A) Not at first. There must necessarily be some more assurance and some changes that are of a minor nature, but these will eventually be accepted.
7. (Q) Will it be necessary for [257] to go to the factory soon? (A) We do not find it in the immediate, but in the latter part - possibly - of the next month.
8. (Q) What does Burnett think thus far of [257]'s future with his company? (A) Very well, as indicated.
9. (Q) Is he of the opinion that [257] will succeed? (A) He is.
10. (Q) What can and should [257] do to further the good feeling or friendship of Burnett? (A) Get more business! And keep it more in line with those various conditions that have been and are being presented from time to time.
11. (Q) What has happened in relation between [257] and Sailors? (A) These are very satisfactory at present.
12. (Q) How can that be further helped to be successful? (A) Just carry on.
13. (Q) Why does Mrs. [189] feel as she does about the factory and its future? (A) The various associations or variations that have been had, and the various conditions that have presented themselves to the body in the interim. This is more, as we find, of ANXIETY than anything else.
14. (Q) Considering conditions to date and developments, what are the possibilities for [257]'s success with the factory? (A) As indicated, dependent upon the manner in which the body [257] and his associates present the various activities in the various fields of endeavor, and in line with those things as already indicated for the body.
15. (Q) Sailors did not give [257] a contract, or [257] has not signed as yet. Sailors has written for it. What should [257] do about it? (A) Sign a contract. Make the contract, as indicated. These matters should be taken care of in their proper form and manner.
16. (Q) Is there any reason for [257] to feel that he will not remain with the factory? (A) Not unless he keeps working to that and holding that in his mind! for then naturally conditions will arise which
257-156 Page 3
will bring animosity or make for disturbing factors. This need NOT be so, if [257] desires to carry on!
17. (Q) Are they pleased with his effort thus far? (A) As indicated.
18. (Q) Should [257] have samples shipped to N.Y. at once even tho he must pay for the space and the expenses? (A) This would be most satisfactory.
19. (Q) Has [257] made the right decision in putting out two men in N.Y. to call on small trade? (A) This should be indicated by the results these men have obtained. That's the better answer!
20. (Q) Do I need more? (A) Not in the immediate.
21. (Q) What idea could he put forth now to increase his sales and prestige in N.Y. market with buyers, and also with factory? (A) In any of those specialty places where there are the needs of those things as indicated heretofore, which have been worked out by the body in former experiences with individuals of such a nature. These, as we find, can be made to become a most satisfactory way and manner for each activity. Not only for the buyer but for the factory itself. SPECIALTIES in various lines. As with Macy or Gimbel, or any of the leading sales stores for such conditions, see?
22. (Q) What his situation with G.E. Should he go there again soon? (A) Just as soon as there are the indications of the needs of same. Let this be rather a request from the G.E. officials in such activities. But keep in touch with them in each of those relationships.
23. (Q) Factory submitted a sample this week of the 6C cabinet. Will G.E. like it, satisfactorily for them to allow plant to go ahead and make it? (A) As indicated already, there are some minor changes in these, but will be satisfactory.
24. (Q) When can [257] get his next business from Dunning and assistant Brown? (A) As soon as there are indications of the satisfaction in those orders that have been given heretofore.
25. (Q) The [900] case has been set for the 30th. Mr. Popkin the lawyer is ready, and Moses will come as a witness. What should [257] do now to be fully prepared considering the conditions he will have to meet from the [[900] & [137]] Brothers at 61 B'way and their attorney Max Steur. [257] has a fair honest contract with them and they have refused to fulfill. (A) Then present it in the same way and manner in which the
257-156 Page 4
activities were between these. As we find, it is necessary or will be well for all of those who have been or are in the same position to be a part of the whole condition in presenting the condition which exists as understood. And then these may be in the way and manner as best for all concerned.
26. (Q) What special work should the lawyer do or [257] to prepare to meet the conditions of the trial? (A) Present it in the manner in which there can be no question as to not only the legality but the feasibility or plausibility of the whole situation.
27. (Q) Should [212] be used as a witness as she knows of the contract to purchase, just as Lynn Moses does? (A) Be well that all that have had a part, all that have held stock, all that know the circumstances, be present.
28. (Q) Should [165] come to N.Y. for his benefit as well as my own, as he has 300 shares of the same stock? (A) As indicated, be well for all concerned to be present.
29. (Q) What other advice for [257] to aid him win this situation, or what type of procedure should his side use? (A) Only that as indicated.
30. (Q) Considering Mrs. [189]'s situation in the office of [257], what kind of a future awaits her if she continues with [257], along the lines he has laid out for the building of the business? (A) This will depend upon the activities and the ability of [257] and associates, of course, to aid in the directing of the activities, and in keeping in line with those plans as laid out. As we find, however, these will be altered somewhat as conditions develop, for it will require the activities of an assistant in the office, or more of the time of Mrs. [189] in keeping with the increased activities. Otherwise, we find all satisfactory.
31. (Q) In what way can Ralph Jonas assist [257] with the various buyers to aid [257] to get business? (A) We do not find any particular assistance save in the word that may be spoken from the various groups and to various groups at various times or periods.
32. (Q) Has [257] chance to work a merger with several chain furniture stores thru Jonas, that will bring [257] new business and larger outlets? (A) This may be possible, but would require a great deal of time and consultation with the various groups that are being aided or abetted by the activities of Jonas in these directions. As we find, this might be worked out, but it
257-156 Page 5
will require time and patience and a long period. We would not spend too much time upon this, save as may be a suggestion to Jonas and then let the greater part of the proposition be worked out by Jonas and then presented to [257] for making this become a satisfactory condition.
33. (Q) Irving Isaacs called [257] and wants to see him - (A) (Interrupting) Leave him alone!
34. (Q) [257] has planned the day as follows - (A) (Interrupting) This is very good. We would not alter or change, but be consistent with these and keep them in that routine. And NOT as rote, but let it become a portion of the EXPERIENCE to make for that as will build into the mental, the spiritual and material life those things that make life worth while. If they become rote only, then these will be found to be burdensome. If they become as a living experience, and - as it were - a game of life in gaining from each of the periods set aside for the various activities, then these become very much worth while.
35. (Q) Should [257] affiliate with any political body this year such as Tammy? (A) Leave politics alone!
36. (Q) What plan for the support of a New President should he make considering his various connections and business needs? (A) Leave these things alone. There will be too many changes!
37. (Q) Will the present Roosevelt administration be reelected? (A) This has nothing to do with [257]!
38. (Q) Fred Seely the Paris Medicine man is coming to see [257] this week concerning the case, and its development in St. Louis, what stand must [257] take to Mr. Seely? (A) That which has always been maintained.
39. (Q) In what way can they cooperate to help one another in the case? (A) Join their influences and forces; not directly, but as counseling on with the other.
40. (Q) Considering the present status and all the work that has been done and is being done, is there a possibility of a settlement this fall? (A) A possibility; this depends most upon the lawyers in that district and their activities in pressing same.
41. (Q) In summing up the rounding out of this body's condition, will you please advise him on his physical also, and any other advice to allow him to recover his material balance and keep his health intact. (A) These have been given for the body, and should be kept in a consistent manner. Just as indicated respecting the activities in the budgeting of the time, the same should be
257-156 Page 6
in the health and the whole for the activities and relationships in every way and manner. These should be kept as LIVING things, not as things just to be done to be got through with; but using each of same as a stepping-stone for improvements in the way of thinking, the manner of experience. And all of those things will come for the betterment. Do this.
