Time of Reading 10:55 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Body and enquiring mind. Questions as to his associations, mental and material affairs.)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind; those associations and relations - that we have had, at least in part, before.
2. In the general physical forces of the body, there are still such conditions of which the body should take cognizance and be warned; that, unless there are precautions taken, there will come the return of those disturbances - not only through poisons or cold and congestion in the system but through the alimentary canal and the eliminations.
3. It would be well, as we have given, that the body at least once a week have the sweats, the general rubs. And when those rubs are given, let there be SPECIFIC attention given to the lower lumbar and sacral area, specifically over the locomotory centers and extending to the feet and the limbs. Use the movements in the bursae of the feet, that there may be a great deal of the strain taken off of the lower limbs and thus make for a better balancing in the weight, as well as the general tension that is experienced by the body working under a tension in the mental and physical activities.
4. As to the MATERIAL associations, we find:
5. In many respects in the present there has been, or will be - in a measure, a satisfactory distribution of the business through the associations in or with the Showers Company. There are hindrances, as we have given, in the financing of the propositions; and these, of course, make tendencies for a great disturbance at times and work for a hardship. But the contracts or the agreements are such, as we find, that it would be well to CONTINUE these until the time just before the season of the next market, or practically - or possibly - the end of the New York Furniture Market period. Then, if there are the abilities to make connections in or with organizations that are more
257-160 Page 2
thoroughly financed, and who make a type of furniture or product that is in keeping with the trade in which [257] has engaged and does engage, then we find that a change would be worth considering. And, as there has been a specialty, or consideration given to special conditions - or the Radio Business - and [257] has been considered one well equipped, or one well interested in that type of business, it would be well that due considerations be made as to the connections; whether these be with the American Furniture Company or Green & Mengel, or Showers [?], or [994]'s or who! These would be the considerations, as we find, when such associations or connections are to be made. [See 994-1 on 8/20/35.]
6. As we find, and have indicated, there would NOT be a better factory for the proper consideration of that SPECIFIC type or specific character of the operations for all grades of the cabinets (that is, Radio Cabinets - if the proper considerations are given to such) than [994]'s. And specific or special orders may be with other considerations, if these are not in the position at the time for the handling of any specific order.
7. Ready for questions.
8. (Q) Which company, General Electric or Stewart-Warner, best to buy hardware for refrigerator cases, known as Two-Way Hinge, from me? (A) The greater interest is in Stewart-Warner, where more consideration is being given; unless there can be sufficient sales talk or sales representation to the General Electric - which, to be sure, would be the greater users, if they were sold on the idea. But there is more consideration being given by Stewart-Warner, as we find.
9. (Q) Is Louis Hanson plant, Chicago, or the Hamilton Plant, Two Rivers, Wis., best plant for Stewart-Warner deal? (A) As we find, the one in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, is the better plant for consideration. There may be some questions that will necessitate being ironed out, but this would be - or PROVE to be - the more satisfactory.
10. (Q) Can [257] handle the breakfast Room of the Western Chair Co. of Boston, with his present lines, or the new ones? (A) That must be considered, to be sure; as to whether changes are to be made or as to whether it would be handled by special individuals that are connected or associated with [257] - rather than [257] taking the whole contract, under those activities with the various organizations that must be - now - under consideration.
11. (Q) Advise [257] if he should make the change as suggested by American to [619]?
257-160 Page 3
(A) As indicated, this is worth considering; owing to the abilities of the organizations to finance orders or to consider the orders that [257] would make. So, the consideration should be from that angle. And if there is the decision to make the change, owing to the abilities of these organizations to fill the orders - or to give the greater cooperation with [257] in the activities - the reason should be so stated to the Showers Company.
12. (Q) Will American work more closely with [257] than Showers? (A) As indicated, their abilities - in their ability to finance - are better.
13. (Q) Will American build Radio Cabinets for G.E. or Stewart-Warner in 1936? (A) As we have indicated, the better for the building of Radio-Cabinets - as WE find - is [994]'s - Ohio.
14. (Q) When would you advise a change? (A) As just given, either at the end of the New York Market or at the beginning of the next season - or next market. This would depend, to be sure, upon the completing or the fulfilling of the complete obligations that have already been entered into under the contract that is existing. It would be well for [257] to consider the associations with the Green & Mengel Company; and this we would do Saturday or Sunday.
15. (Q) Will [257] be invited to join Alden Company in Space 1245 (old Carolina)? (A) This depends upon whether [257] puts himself in the position or not. Naturally there is the consideration for the conditions that have existed, but there are other plants much better fitted to furnish materials or goods - cheaper.
16. (Q) Which will be best for [257] in 1936? (A) This will depend upon that upon which [257] gives the most consideration. As we find, there can STILL be a great deal accomplished in the Radio Business - through those connections that have already been established.
17. (Q) Can [257] handle Richardson Piano Case factory near Springfield, Mass., or better stick to Southern plants - or Western plants? (A) Stick to Southern or Western plants; or Southwestern plants.
18. (Q) What other plants can [257] work with for Radio Cabinets? (A) As indicated, this ONE - if the proper consideration is given. If there is worked out the proper consideration, this, as we find, and these associations, would offer the
257-160 Page 4
greater opportunity.
19. DO that.
20. We are through for the present. Day Letter Collect to self, Medinah Club, Chicago: CONTINUED PRESENT AGREEMENTS UNTIL END OF NEW YORK FURNITURE MARKET. THEN MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH ORGANIZATIONS MORE THOROUGHLY FINANCED AND IN KEEPING WITH YOUR TRADE. [994] BEST FOR RADIO. CONSIDER GREEN MENGEL SATURDAY SUNDAY. FOR PHYSICAL CONTINUE SWEATS RUBS WEEKLY AND DIET. ADVISE WHERE TO MAIL INFORMATION.
