1. GC: Self and associates, possible associates, Morgan Simmons and C. B. Ford of Martinsville, Va. of the American Furniture Co. [257] has been invited to join this organization as a sales representative. You will also have in N.Y. Mr. Harry Hyams whose office is in space 1303 at 206 Lexington Ave. Please advise [257] whether he should make this association or not and what the future will hold for him if he does make it, and ans. ques.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [257], present in this room; those possible or probable associations.
3. First, in the physical forces of the body, we find there should be more precautions taken in those directions that we have indicated for this body, else we may find those reactions occurring that would destroy much that has been and is being builded in the material ways by the body in the present.
4. For those tendencies in the coordinations, in the dissimulations, or assimilations and the dissimulation of the assimilated forces - or the katabolism of the system, that is becoming more disturbed:
5. As indicated by those conditions that arise in the superficial circulation where portions cause irritations at times, as well as through the deeper - where those strains upon the system as indicated are exhibited in the activities through the eliminations of the body, the precautions are necessary as to the diets and the corrections being made through the physical activities, the taking of the sweats and the rubs that will make for a keeping of the physical forces near in accord.
6. In the associations and those probable activities, these - as we have indicated before - are possible connections that might be made by the body, and these would be well - as we find, if the proper distributions are able to be made
257-165 Page 2
through the activities of the organization.
7. There are many considerations to be viewed by the body [257], as to associations with this organization in particular.
8. These are not just conditions to be warned of. These are conditions that exist, do exist, with THIS organization:
9. There has been builded here rather an unusual or a different condition than from most organizations of this nature or character.
10. Not that the merchandise is not of the very best, but there has been set a policy in the organization to meet the needs of the various characters and types of merchandise that has been marketed in varied centers and under varied ways and manners.
11. For this body, do not ever consider that that is of the cheaper merchandise. For while this is made to meet prices and conditions in certain areas and in certain circumstances, if it IS used it will become - to the manner of merchandising by this body [257] and associates - an unsatisfactory condition in the association.
12. Take this warning, then: This association, as we find, may be made; to represent certain territories or those of the particular area in New York, a portion of Jersey, a portion of Pennsylvania, the southern New England; but DO NOT consider - for these areas - the cheaper product made by this organization. [American Furniture Co.]
13. Ready for questions.
14. (Q) When should [257] go to meet with these people? (A) This should be governed by circumstances, or as to when - not when it is inconvenient, as we would say, but rather that a definite period or time may be set aside for its consideration by [257] and by those in authority. As we find, it would be the latter portion of this coming week - or the first portion of the next.
15. (Q) They have requested this coming Thursday. (A) That's a little bit early, but if this meets the needs and the conditions, very good. If it can be made Tuesday it would be better than Thursday.
16. (Q) What would be a fair arrangement for the factory and [257] to make with the present representative Mr. Harry Hyams who has been with the firm for 20 years and who will have to retire because of his health from unusual activities? (A) That as is the regular routine. See, it has been indicated here - this organization has been builded on a different basis from that of many. Not only in the way of merchandise but in the manner in which those who have been or who are the representatives are cared for. For this may
257-165 Page 3
be said to be an organization out of the ordinary; that is, it considers the value of those that work with the organization in the bad times as well as in the good times. Hence it has a policy. Let this policy be carried through.
17. (Q) Will he [Harry Hyams] be valuable to the association with [257]? (A) To be sure in the beginnings, but this will gradually change - through a period of sixteen to eighteen months.
18. (Q) What kind of relation or agreement should exist between the American factory and [257] in order to start on the right basis and keep happy for the years to come? (A) That as a representative of the organization in those fields of merchandise chosen by [257] to represent for the organization.
19. (Q) Will this factory be willing to take on radio cabinet business or should the discussion of that be deferred for later development? (A) Should be deferred for later developments; for it is NOT - under the present situations - in those positions for such an activity. But as the general activities of the organization are acquainted with the character of the sales management under the direction of [257], these can be approached possibly next year or next spring. For these would be very well to be considered by the latter portion of December, or the first of January of next year - or when there are the preparations for finish, sample, character, models, etc., of such work.
20. (Q) What should [257]'s conversation be with these people in order to make the proper impression with them? (A) That which is in regular line with GOOD business, or the abilities; or to show, as has been indicated to the body, there is to be a consideration given each and every individual that is in the organization, to the sales organization, to [257] himself and to those who are to have the merchandise delivered. In these manners and in this way, all of these things taken into consideration as we have outlined. There is to be first the proper character of merchandise to supply the needs of the LAST purchaser, see? Then the prices are to be in keeping in such a manner that there is a profit to the manufacturer, to the dealer or jobber, and allowing sufficient for the efforts on the part of him that would be the distributor - or bringing the product and the manufacturer together on a common ground or basis.
21. (Q) Should he handle the Showers line until the
257-165 Page 4
American is established? (A) This has been indicated here before, that there would only be the portions of, and the general character already set up. Don't get off with the old before you are on with the new, or don't let them interfere. For these meet with a different type of people, for they are handling a different type of merchandise. For certain manufacturers - southern manufacturers (as this) - stand in the position where the finish, the policies, the regulations are NOT those of the farther south or the north or west. Well, there's none better!
22. (Q) Will [257] be able to earn enough out of the sale of furniture to justify the efforts he will put into it? (A) If he doesn't, then quit trying to sell furniture!
23. (Q) Will the arrangements which [257] has worked out with Showers work out to be financially sound during 1936, on Radio Cabinet orders? (A) These should be very sound and in keeping with that policy, which is entirely different from that to be considered in the associations with the American. In one way you are feeling or finding you are dealing direct with those that know their business and the handling of same. In the other you are dealing with individuals that handle it for someone else and don't know exactly where it's going to lead them.
24. (Q) Should [257] work through Dunning or through Dr. Baker, the chief engineer, as suggested by Cordiner the sales Manager? [Dr. W. R. G. Baker.] (A) These are changes that are coming in the organizations and in the activities of the organizations. And keep one, or keep them both in their proper spheres and proper relation one to the other. For one while he is the engineer, the passing upon or the saying as to where and as to when is still remaining in Dunning for the time being - or until these things are changed entirely.
25. (Q) How does Baker feel toward [257]? (A) It's an indifference as yet! If it measures up to the proper standard, he'd just as soon give it to [257] as anyone else and a little rather - as he is a friend of some of the others. These have to be builded in their regular routine and order. Follow these. Keep in those ways. And most of all, mind self in the physical forces of the body.
26. (Q) Does Reilly give proper treatments? (A) Very good.
257-165 Page 5
27. (Q) Should I go to Dobbins? (A) Go to Dobbins once a month should be sufficient, if the others are kept - when there is the need.
28. (Q) How often to Reilly's? (A) That depends upon how well the body does on the diet and how well the body keeps those policies for self as indicated.
29. (Q) What diet is best? (A) This has been given again and again. Keep away from THESE in the diet; then whatever you want of the other things! Beware of red meats or those that are tended towards raw meats; a great deal of potatoes, especially unless the jackets are taken; condiments of the nature that tend to stir up too great an acidity for the system. Keep away from strong drinks, and beware of beer - for this is NOT good for the body. Those that are of a malt nature are at TIMES good. Those of old beers would be very good, but there ARE none to be had in the present! MALTS taken are better, see?
30. (Q) How about imported beer? (A) Imported doesn't mean that it has aged; not necessarily, and very little that has been imported is of sufficient age to be really helpful to the body as yet.
31. (Q) Is mineral oil good thing for the body to take now? (A) Occasionally; not too much. If the part Russian Oil is taken, or more preferably the Olive Oil in SMALL doses, it would be better than the mineral oil.
32. (Q) What is the small dose for this body of Olive Oil? (A) Well, from three to ten drops. This is very well to be taken, too, on the green vegetables, as on lettuce, onions, celery, radish, peppers, tomatoes, anything of the kind. These are very well even with paprika on same, for this body.
33. (Q) Any other advice or warnings for the body? (A) Follow these, and we will find - as indicated - those conditions physically and mentally, those conditions financially and socially, will be on the improve.
