Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., N.Y.
1. GC: Physical, mental and material body and his business associates and associations, especially the executives of the General Electric Company at Bridgeport, Conn. and Schenectady, N.Y., with Frank Williams the Veneer man of Seneca Hotel, Chicago, and Louis Francis of Asheville, N.C. Please direct [257] in those directions which will enable him to attain the well-rounded success he aspires in life.
2. EC: Yes, we have the entity here, [257], present in this room; associations, relations, individuals and collective, in the activities of the entity in relation to associations with the General Electric, and individuals as in other branches. Some of these, and in many ways, we have had before.
3. First, in the physical forces of the body, while there have been warnings given to the body from time to time, these have at times been considered for periods and then, through overanxiety, strain, or from material conditions, neglected.
4. Still, as we would give, take those precautions as to the activities, especially of a few minutes morning and evening for relaxing the body sufficient that there may be the better coordination of the physical, the mental, the spiritual self.
5. For in each physical body (and with this body [257]), there are the abilities for the body to revive, resuscitate, reorganize itself continuously. It is only the consciousness that the activities of the body waste with age, care, fear, doubt or the like, that produces what ye term old age or decrepitness in the activities of the body physically and mentally.
6. Of course, periods of activity have become such with this body as to make for the consciousness of lapses, through disappointments, through activities that bring worries or anxieties about the MATERIAL things. And materiality is the PHYSICAL manner of degeneration; thus the mental, the
257-191 Page 2
spiritual lapses, through its activity, into just such relationships.
7. Warnings have been given the body as to being so overanxious as to hinder self, or arriving at those periods of material gains and then be cut off from the use or the application of same.
8. Then those precautions should be followed in the many ways that have been given, as to how the body should learn - or be active in the manner as to learn - to play as well as work; learning to relax as well as to be under strain. Learn to add something, physically, mentally, spiritually, to the body in its REGULARITY, in its budgeting of its time.
9. These are necessary portions of the entity's experience. And these kept, these precautions taken in the experience, we would find a much better, much more well-rounded, and a much more ABUNDANT life experience for the entity.
10. Ready for questions.
11. (Q) Is the present method of approach to G.E. officials the correct or proper one? (A) This has been referred to again and again. This depends ever upon what is to be eventually accomplished. As we find, in considering the whole of the proposition or conditions that have been referred to here, there is in the present the better - yes, the proper set up, the proper approach, and through the proper individuals. The delays have arisen from two definite, distinct sources: Some individuals who have the "word," as it were, or the influence for making a definite proposition - or the carrying out of what has been intimated or proposed, are tied up in promise and in activities with others in other channels such that an association with the activities of [257] would in a manner curtail the activity in THAT association with others. Then, there has also been the fear - with the considerations of the groups - of a change that may occur through the new organization or new program set by the organization or corporation coming up in the early portion of the coming year; the periods when there may be advances, demotions, or a combination of the activities of some of the groups associated in those upon which [257] has been relying. All of these then have worked together for the delaying. But as we find, unless other conditions arise, there is the all-probability that these will EVENTUALLY be carried through in such a manner as to become a most satisfactory
257-191 Page 3
proposition.
12. (Q) Is [257] proceeding in right channels? (A) As just indicated.
13. (Q) Is there anyone else to see who might be holding up the final acceptance of the plan as suggested by Dr. Baker of Bridgeport? (A) Dr. Baker of Bridgeport is more the spoke that is holding up than many of the others! This is a connection, but to attempt to move him out of the way in the present, by bringing pressure upon others, would be to have a resentment built that would cause disturbances.
14. (Q) How should I proceed with Dr. Baker? (A) As has been indicated heretofore, there are those upon whom Dr. Baker is dependent, upon whom Dr. Baker relies, in the organization, that are close friends of [257]! It is better to work through these and keep the friendship, keep the dependence, with Baker.
15. (Q) Who is the man that [257] should work closest with now? (A) Rather not only the Purchasing, not only the Pattern, not only the Finish, but the Distributing; or about three or four rather than one. See, the greatest influence - and though there may be the better finish, better price, more than fifty percent of all selling, as has been given - is PERSONALITY in the material plane! yet the problems or the conditions are that all of those interested in making the proposition possible, as it were, or the assurance to [257] for the activity, must come on these two as the basis: the finish, the design (which, of course, is of their own), time and freight rates.
16. (Q) Would Ralph Cordner now be a good man to contact? (A) We would depend rather upon the friendship of those that are not so much active (that is, in the material way), but whose word goes much farther. Then if such direction leads to the Vice-President, very well; but holding with those that are being worked with, depending upon that influence which has from the FIRST been the guiding influence to [257].
17. (Q) Would that be Hughes or Erlicher or Patton? (A) It's all of these and still more! It goes back to the FIRST associations - Baldwin! [George Baldwin, deceased]
18. (Q) How about the Vice-President, Mr. Andrews? (A) All of these are well to cultivate, but as has been given heretofore, don't climb over someone else and be in the position such that more than fifty percent must be maintained! The friendship of all of those in the way up.
19. (Q) What should his procedure be with Mrs. George
257-191 Page 4
Baldwin at the present time? (A) Rather that of just "Here's the whole situation." Lay it out, just as you would have to Mr. Baldwin - for he will direct anyway! Then let HER - in the meetings - SHE will touch upon the ones who are to be the ACTIVATIVE forces in making for the closer interests or assurance.
20. (Q) Is [257] feeling the proper impulse when he feels the personality of George Baldwin, when he is at Schenectady or Bridgeport? (A) You are wandering far afield, for what you are seeking! These are the RESULTS! DO NOT rely upon such as DIRECTIONS! These become the aiding INFLUENCES. Yes, these are correct - but do not BUILD upon them and attempt to use them as influences. They shall be the RESULTS of honesty, sincerity, of carrying the whole thing through! For THESE make attunements, and it's only as an attunement. For he that attempts to use the spiritual influences, and then doesn't live them, does so to his own CONDEMNATION!
21. (Q) What will be the final plan suggested by G.E. Co. now to aid [257] open the plant? (A) This of course is still in the formative way. There is being the attempt to work it out, to be sure, without the G.E. becoming materially responsible for a long period of time. Now: All agree that it is well. All agree that the conditions are satisfactory. But to become responsible either for labor or for the materials - and still leaving the indebtedness hanging, as the circumstances and conditions so admittedly indicate, there's the possibility of other influences coming in! They don't want to go into the business, yet are willing to back one who may supply them! Then, that is the problem to be worked out.
22. (Q) How far will G.E. go to help [257] finance and get business? (A) All the way! if they are not TIED hand and tail!
23. (Q) With whom does the final decision rest? (A) Hughes and Baker.
24. (Q) Is Hughes away on business or pleasure at the present? (A) Both - and you are getting far afield.
25. (Q) Shall I await the return of Hughes to continue negotiations? (A) No reason that other gaps shouldn't be put up, in connection with the surroundings; but do not attempt to go to those extremes of getting a final word without his being present or considered.
26. (Q) Is this the right time for [257] to assume control
257-191 Page 5
of Schwartzwalder plant at Chichester? (A) Not until there is the assurance that there are sufficient orders or the activities or the connections built so that it doesn't become a dead proposition on the hands! It's the right time, but it isn't quite in the right pew or the right place.
27. (Q) What causes Baker to hold back? (A) As given, Baker is held back because of his tied interests in another organization or plant supplying; and there apparently to Baker must be then as MUCH interest to be had from the present set up or there is NOT to be the so tying into same that he is to lose a portion of the friendship AND advancement and monies in another! But this you can't tell him!
28. (Q) What suggestions can [257] make to Baker to get his final okay to proceed? (A) He has to act in the manner of the friendship as well as judgement, and that there is the consideration that his capacities in the plant (Chichester, or whatever is to be considered) are to be kept just the same as his associations or judgements in the General Electric. This opens the way, yet doesn't offer him the bribe that - if we come to the final analysis - he is looking for.
29. (Q) When should [257] see Baker? (A) Whenever Erlicher tells him to.
30. (Q) Has the present business condition anything to do with decision? (A) In a manner. But - this should be easily seen by [257], from what has been explained. If the activities in business are such that the present set-up, or the channel through which most of the activity is being attained, would take care of it - then why burden themselves with [257]'s activity? The feeling of optimism, of course, then - and if there isn't sufficient, then that would be well to consider. But WITH the impending changes in the early meeting of the new year, in what position does it put each of these? These ALL combined make the hold-up. It's working out in the right direction. Don't be impatient, nor overanxious. Use that thou hast in HAND in thine own furniture, in thine own organization, in those various lines that are coming; and know: AS ye use those opportunities CORRECTLY, the GREATER opportunities are shown. Forget not that even in and with the associations in this plant, if there appears to be a relaxing of the efforts of [257] in the promises to his associations in the general
257-191 Page 6
furniture business, it comes to be dependent upon one that would become as an angel to the proposition and is not a whole proposition for all concerned. Remember, that might become a hindrance also. It isn't the laggard or the dependent that anyone is ever looking for; it is one that has the abilities to use WHATEVER is in the hand to the best advantage with those considerations for all concerned.
31. (Q) Has [257] satisfied the American up to the present time? (A) There isn't any question in these directions! but use all that you have in these directions!
32. (Q) Should [257] accept, if offered to him, the Globe Parlor Chair line of High Point, N.C.? which will fit in with his present line of American? (A) This is very well, just so it does not add to the general or regular expense with the proper consideration given it as to its space and the place it occupies in the organization of [257]'s.
33. (Q) Should [257] visit the American plant before the first of the year? (A) As we find, it is soon after the first of the year - or just at that period when there is the planning for the consideration of the policies and the activities of the organization - that it would be well. As we find it would be in January or February before this would be either advisable or for the best interests of all concerned.
34. (Q) Is there anything that [257] can do with Harry Erlicher now to continue his good will? (A) Keep in those ways that have always existed between these. Do not become too patronizing, or do not let Erlicher become too patronizing to [257]; but in the correct, the independent and yet dependent activity that comes with sincere friendship. It is the friendship here that is worth more to [257] than ALL the orders this may ever give [257]!
