Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Body and enquiring mind. Ques. regarding his and [bro-in-law] [1565]'s associations in business affairs.)
1. EC: We have the enquiring mind, [257]; those associations and connections.
2. Ready for questions.
3. (Q) Will the body be able to get the use of the Brunswick name for radio, phonograph and television? (A) As we find, these are in the formation of being contracted for. If the conditions are carried through that are necessary for the obtaining, very well.
4. (Q) Is this the time to bring out a line of period furniture under the Brunswick name? (A) This would be very well.
5. (Q) To sell to furniture stores and department stores? (A) Naturally, it must be sold through those at least.
6. (Q) What plan will be best for the successful operation of this business? (A) Well, there have been plans already laid out. We wouldn't alter these in the present.
7. (Q) Should assembly be done by [994] or Andrea or some other chassis manufacturer? (A) IF there can be the proper associations and connection made with [994], this as we find is the more satisfactory. It is true that some portions of the conditions would be somewhat in conflict, but these may be worked out. And these offer as we find the greater opportunities for expansion that is necessary in such an undertaking. [See 994-3 Reports.]
8. (Q) Under what name should the firm be incorporated? (A) That should be a choice rather within self. This has also been suggested. We would not interfere.
9. (Q) What will be the relations with the [994] Bros. Corp. of ..., Ohio? (A) This depends upon just that as indicated. If there is the ability to make the proper associations and connections, these would be the better.
257-194 Page 2
10. (Q) Will they carry out the plans which [994] agreed upon last Friday night and Saturday in Celina, Ohio? (A) That they agree to, they will carry out!
11. (Q) Which would be the best radio set to use - the Andrea set, Long Island City, or the Emerson set, 111 Eighth Ave., N.Y.C., or the DeWald set, 510 Sixth Ave., N.Y.C., or the Alvin set, considering the make-up of the firms and the future relations with them? (A) The Emerson naturally would be, unless the associations were made with Andrea for the rest of the proposition! And this, as we find, does not offer the opportunities as would be offered through the [994] associations or connections. But such a distance has been gone with Andrea in this connection, it will necessarily have to be worked out in a way and manner in keeping with best policies for all.
12. (Q) What will the entity have to be careful of in making arrangements with radio concern? (A) All patents and the use of the same character of sets in other associations or connections.
13. (Q) Will the proposed merger of the [994] Corporation with other concerns be affected during 1938 and will this be a successful plan for the [994] Corporation, and how will it affect the entity's organization? (A) We only have the activities of [257] and his associates with same; not the associations of [994] with other connections. But as we find these will be necessary during 1939, though not fully carried out in '38 as we find.
14. (Q) What will be the benefit to the [bro.-in-law 1565] organization of having Warner Bros. affiliated with the new company through the ownership of the Brunswick name? (A) Only as an outlet from and through which much of the activities might be carried on in some directions. And as we find, while this is very well, there would be a conflict with the use of some of the activities of the Radio associations, if the Emerson sets are used.
15. (Q) Should we use just the Brunswick name in our advertising or add to it "Cabinets by [994]" or just use "[994]" name only for both set and cabinet? (A) The Brunswick name, of course, has a following, has a prestige - of course - among a great many; as does the [994] name. If these may be COMBINED without conflicting in any of the things, this as we find would be the better.
16. (Q) What can [257] do to stimulate business for American Furniture Co.? (A) Only in the activities of meeting those that are the channels through which the distributions of same are made. These as we find at the present time need not so much the
257-194 Page 3
high pressure as rather the cooperative activity with the distributors of the products.
17. (Q) Should [257] go to factory, and when? (A) In this month as we find.
18. (Q) What can be accomplished at the factory, and what procedure to follow to build solidly with them? (A) The better associations, the better affiliations are in keeping closer in touch with the manufacturers and their policies. Do not forget this, as has been indicated for the body in its associations with the organization; to keep well in line with the policies of the American organization in all its dealings with the distributors of the product. And this in contact with same more and more makes for the keeping in this line.
19. (Q) Is present arrangement with [994] satisfactory? (A) It'll not work out exactly, but it's being worked - and as we find if these associations can be made, very well; but it is switching back - from what has already been done.
20. (Q) Should [257] depend on Gen. Elec. for cabinet business or try to get some from Philco also? (A) He may depend upon the General Electric for at least two or three numbers. While these are not sufficient to carry on, there may then be the supplanting - not the supplanting but rather the ADDING or filling in with those of other organizations.
21. (Q) Which radio-phono best to use? Emerson, G.E., DeWald or Andrea for the best sales plan nationally? (A) G.E. for the best sales plan nationally!
22. (Q) What can be accomplished in 1938 by [1565] and [257] in volume sales? (A) This depends upon the APPLICATION of self in those directions, and how the set up is made and how broad is the field of activity and service. As we find, it should run close to a million and a half or such.
23. (Q) When should [1565] plan trip to introduce line? (A) As soon as there are samples, and all the connections made properly.
24. (Q) What should be his best route to get quickest results? (A) The northwest and southeast.
25. (Q) What can [257] feel is in store for his success in 1938? (A) This depends again upon the application - which should be the lesson learned at least by this time. As ye sow, whether it is physically, mentally or spiritually, so will ye reap! And this applies in what the outlook may be. As ye have sown, so may ye gather the fruits of that ye have sown.
26. (Q) What will be outcome of his court situation with
257-194 Page 4
[3734] now before Judge Valenti? (A) As we find, eventually satisfactory. [See 257-123 Reports.]
