1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [257] N.Y.C., in reference [994] of [994] Bros. Corporation of ..., Ohio and [257] and [bro.-in-law 1565] of New York of Radio & Television, Inc., owners of Brunswick name. You will answer the questions he has submitted regarding these associations and connections, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the associations of [257], [1565], [994]; these we have had before.
3. Ready for questions.
4. (Q) Is the confidence of both groups sufficient to consider this a partnership for years standing? (A) If these were to be considered as individuals alone, very well. When others are considered, and the conditions as may arise, not so well. But if there are the agreements between each of these, they may make a very workable organization together; not as partners but as confidential agents one group with the other.
5. (Q) To what conditions do you refer, that "may arise"? (A) [994] is an individual; that he represents is a corporation.
6. (Q) Is the plan suggested by [994] to [257] and associates to buy control at $5.00 per share and he remain with [257] group to run the factory and they to handle the sales a good one? (A) Be very well - if it would last long enough.
7. (Q) Which source best for money to handle matter - Dunn, New York - or Buchanan, N.Y., or Plumb, Detroit or Julius Kahn of Cleveland - to best interests of [994] and [257] group? (A) Dunn.
8. (Q) When would be the best time for such a development? (A) In the spring.
9. (Q) What form best to take - as a stock issue or an
257-203 Page 2
outright purchase by a single money group and later make a stock issue out of it? (A) By a single group and later make the stock issue.
10. (Q) Has [994] a complete desire to do business with [1565] and [257] for a period of years? If so, is he strong enough to sway the others if they object or do not want [257] and [1565]? (A) If there is the purchase, of course, this might make a great deal of difference. For others desire to be out; some do - and [994] is trustworthy.
11. (Q) How much cash should [257] seek to fill the needs in the [994] factory to cover the Brunswick volume and maintain the factory? (A) Sufficient for the purchase as a unit - then the issue for the handling of same and distribution of stock.
12. (Q) Who in the present [994] organization besides [994] will be helpful to use in building the plan? (A) All of those who are as workmen, not as officials.
13. (Q) Is Henry Winogrand in favor of having [257] and [1565] sell the Brunswick line? (A) As just indicated.
14. (Q) What should be [257]'s connection with Henry Winogrand, the new manager of the Plant? (A) This would be best not discussed unless there is to be an association and connection. And when this comes about there will be a change for Winogrand somewhere else. [See subsequent rdgs., especially 257-251, Par. 27-A--29-A.]
15. (Q) With Harry Winkeljohn, in the factory? (A) Forget him!
16. (Q) When will be the proper time to work out the details and set-up to present to money groups? (A) NOW!
17. (Q) On what basis should Brunswick interests be considered in [994] set-up? (A) These would necessarily be on a par.
18. (Q) Will the [994] people attempt to sell their period cabinets under the [994] name or handle it continually and exclusively under Brunswick as [994] has started it? (A) This depends upon what is the outcome and later development of present program or suggestion.
19. (Q) Considering the man [994] and associates, will the agreement be kept as made as to furnishing [257] and [1565] with cabinets and radio to sell for years to come under [1565] direction? (A) This is beggaring the question. Dependent upon what the dealings are in carrying out promises on BOTH sides. Promises are not one-sided. If they are in such a condition
257-203 Page 3
or even considered so by either, they don't mean much! They are dependent upon one another fulfilling THEIR promise!
20. (Q) Should [1565] travel before Christmas to visit territories and salesmen? (A) We do not find it as being very remunerative.
21. (Q) What territories need his personal appearance? (A) Dependent upon WHEN this is to be made. ALL would, beginning near the first - or after the first of the year.
22. (Q) If a trip to England is necessary, would [1565] be the best one to go? (A) Dependent upon what the program is to be, as respecting all phases of production, development, investment and what not. Money might be obtained from England - if so desired by the group.
23. (Q) Should we change any of present designs? (A) This has been covered before. Read that!
24. (Q) How many new numbers should be brought out? (A) This again will depend upon the various territories and their needs. New numbers should come at those periods particularly when there are the preparations for the various seasons and various activities, save as to meet the requirements of sectional conditions - as has been heretofore indicated.
25. (Q) Should we change our price range for 1939? (A) The general conditions might warrant same, in either direction that it is chosen. This will depend upon circumstances and upon that which is to be met in the form of other activities in the same line.
26. (Q) What can we do to get ready for television? (A) Not a great deal until there is more of a decision as to the size, the conditions and the like.
27. (Q) What association can [257] make to aid Brunswick in Television? (A) Keeping in touch with those factors that are making the greater advancement in these directions.
28. (Q) How long will it take Television to get under full sway? (A) Nine hundred and nineteen (919) years!
29. (Q) What would be the period of popular development? (A) In the next fifteen (15).
30. (Q) How will it affect the radio business? (A) There are too many factors to say as to what the effect will be. They are entirely different. Dependent upon how easily those who have investments of such an extent are willing to allow Television to take its place. Many another such condition has held up many another development.
257-203 Page 4
31. (Q) Is the Brunswick contract with Warner Bros. legally proper to insure safety to [1565] and [257] in event of merger or big success of company? (A) It's very well.
32. (Q) [257] had meeting with Columbia Broadcasting Co. who are working on purchase of Brunswick Record Co. - is there a natural hook-up with Columbia through Murphy? (A) Depends upon what would be called a natural. This as we find is a SOURCE of there being definite arrangements for the use with those activities, if there were production of radios OR of Television with the Columbia Broadcasting. This will eventually come. Then, whether this would be termed natural is [257]'s own opinion of same.
33. (Q) Who is the best man to work through - Murphy, Klaubner, Keston or Paley of Columbia Broadcasting Co.? (A) If Murphy is the natural, then why change from the natural?
34. (Q) Should [257] plan to be financed by others, then [994], and then use [994] as a source of supply, or is to advantage to have as a partner? (A) This will depend upon circumstances, as has been indicated in the manner of how, where and as to what the holdings and interests of [257] and [1565] are when such a coalition or partnership or organization would become a concrete thing. It is desirable that such a one as [994] be a part of such an organization as the Radio and Television, Inc.
35. (Q) What errors have been made in the handling of the Brunswick division in sales and management? (A) This is to be corrected where there have been the greater objections to the manner, the style and the way of handling. These have been minor as yet, as we find; though may BECOME larger in proportion as volume would increase.
36. (Q) Is the manufacturing set-up the best at ..., O.? (A) The better; not necessarily the best - but the better.
37. (Q) Should [257] plan to get a Grand Rapids factory to build contract period cabinets for Radio Corp., Gen. Elec., and other manufactures? (A) This might be very well, if it does not interfere with the own organization if the prospective things are carried forward. Remember the warnings given as to so many irons.
38. (Q) Will [257] be able to handle all his business with [994] and not consider other factories for this? (A) Provided there is kept all those promises made [994]

41. (Q) Should [257] ask for reduction of royalties from Herman Starr of the Brunswick Co. or wait until a later date? (A) This would be a part of it - if it is to be considered at all, before there would be a merging of organizations.
42. (Q) How should [257] proceed to discuss the matter with him in order to accomplish a reduction in the royalty? (A) We do not find it will be accomplished, unless there is felt there is something to be gained by same - in the manner of the QUANTITY production.
43. (Q) What should [257] suggest to the Jews and Gentiles of America to aid the German sufferers of all religions that will appeal to Hitler to let up on persecutions? (A) There must be a change in the attitude of those who would be helpful, as well as in the manners of approach. These must be within, and not that as might be NOISED abroad.
44. (Q) What efforts should be put forth to prevent the same thing happening in the U.S.? (A) See that the Constitution is kept, and it can't!
45. (Q) What type of program should be presented best to appeal to Nat'l Broadcasting Company for a regular program? (A) This depends upon what type; whether it is to be used as a commercial or a part of the educational program of the National. If it is to be the educational, then it may only be approached through the Educational Board; and a discussion of the VALUE of such in the experiences of students or researchers in that subject.
46. (Q) Is there any reason to feel that our democracy will fail in the United States? (A) The people may fail - the democracy will not fail. That, then, becomes the condition in the land.

49. (Q) What is the best plan to adopt to aid the development of his boys [773] and [759], and also his wife [903]? (A) Not by might, nor by power, nor by precept - but LIVE that as ye desire to see in their lives. Do not say one thing and live another. Be consistent! And it is indeed a jewel in the experience of any soul!
50. (Q) Should [257] attempt any political affiliation or just attend to his business now? (A) Not well to attempt any political affiliation, with the present attitude towards same.
51. (Q) How do the American Furniture Co. - Mr. Ford and Mr. Simmons feel toward [257] now, considering recent business and development? (A) These are still wondering what he will do next.
52. (Q) What can [257] do to further these interests to make them perfectly satisfied with his efforts? (A) Get more business! And make the less of those where there can be any friction in the activities.
53. (Q) Is Carl Maisel the right associate for me? (A) In some respects very well. In others, not very good. Do not let his activities or his sympathies or his policies be too much of thine. Thou KNOWEST what is right - thou knowest the policies. As has been indicated, if ye would adhere to the policies of those in the affairs of the American Furniture Co. in ALL thy dealings you would be much better off!
54. (Q) How can his efforts be improved upon? (A) Just what has been said.
55. (Q) Shall I give him free reign and permit him to call on all my accounts? (A) You'll be sorry if you do!

58. (Q) What should and can [257] do to aid sales and management of the new Brunswick division of the [994] Co.? (A) Just work; and live in the same manner as the activities and associates make for, in the actual business done. Don't live off of, or give expression to, more than
257-203 Page 7
that which is ACTUALLY accomplished.

61. (Q) Should [257] work with Harry Printz, J. Factor group of N.Y. and Chicago for promotion of Brunswick Co.? (A) How far apart! This is very well if these are held in line - and made to meet the regular rules of such.
62. (Q) What program of activities can [257] carry out for 6 months, beginning now, which will equalize him - mentally, socially, spiritually and financially? (A) BUDGET the time, the activities! Remember as the body, the mind and the soul are one, so should their activities be one. But as they give expression in their various channels of activity, each MUST have that cultivation that ENABLES the body to speak from experience - rather than from what someone said or thought.
