Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C.
1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [257], in the office of Mr. Friedberger at Bloomingdale's, 6th floor, 69th St. & Lexington Ave., N.Y. City, and you will answer the ques. he has submitted, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind, [257]; this we have had before.
3. Ready for questions.
4. (Q) Will I be called upon to act for the Government again and in what capacity? (A) Not necessarily. Much depends upon the Government's attitude towards those conditions existent in other nations. And should there come even hostilities, not necessarily called upon.
5. (Q) Will the United States be brought into the European War? (A) This again depends upon the activities of other nations, as well as the attitude of the peoples in America.
6. (Q) Will present German-French-British conflict last a long time? (A) The apparent condition is that it will be settled unexpectedly, through unexpected sources or channels; but a long time for many individuals.
7. (Q) What conditions will we see come before war is ended? (A) This again is a problem, and depends - as we have indicated - upon whether individuals, peoples, groups, masses, live as they pray; or pray as they sincerely in their hearts desire.
8. (Q) How long will the German-French-British conflict last? (A) As has just been indicated.
9. (Q) What will be Hitler's future? (A) Death.
10. (Q) What nations will be on each side before war ends? (A) This again is a problem, and a matter for diplomatic concern rather than of Mr. [257].
11. (Q) For what real purpose is the present war? (A) Read in Daniel, the last two chapters, and see; also
257-211 Page 2
the 31st of Deuteronomy - and we will see.
12. (Q) What factors will decide it? (A) Faith.
13. (Q) Should I attempt to obtain a position in any branch of the Government? (A) If so desired, do so. Be very foolish, however - as we find. [See his Life Rdg. 257-10.]
14. (Q) Regarding General Electric: Should I continue to work with Dr. Baker direct, or again go through Mr. Hughes who has been rebellious? (A) Read rather the suggestions that have been indicated, as to the attitudes which Baker should have in reference to the associates in the various branches of the General Electric, and be guided by the activity respecting same.
15. (Q) How should I handle present situation which has arisen between Hughes and myself. (A) As just indicated.
16. (Q) Will Mr. Hughes remain as an employee of the Company? (A) For quite a while.
17. (Q) Why has he become antagonistic to me? (A) Look within self, and those things that have come about, as in reference to promises and those changes which have been wrought.
18. (Q) Are the relations well set between American Furniture at Martinsville, considering Simmons and Ford with Dr. Baker of General Electric Co., for happy business relations? (A) If the attitudes of each and the policies are brought to conform to those that have been the American Furniture Company's, as we have indicated heretofore, then these will be happy relations.
19. (Q) Based on present understanding, what can the future be between these two companies? (A) This depends entirely upon whether or not the policies of each are made to conform as one to another, as we have just indicated; and if these are made in those ways and manners, then the future may be a very satisfactory one, at least.
20. (Q) Will the Brunswick business continue to expand in spite of war? (A) Be curtailed somewhat in some quarters or sections, but will continue to be in a very satisfactory way and manner, - if there is not the panicky expression or too much antagonism arising from attitudes of individuals that present the Brunswick propositions.
21. (Q) Considering present developments, what is next move for Brunswick expansion? (A) To carry on in the very same channels and manners and
257-211 Page 3
policies that have been set out for same.
22. (Q) What price should I offer Warner Bros. to end Royalty contract that will be acceptable to Herman Starr of the Warner Co? (A) As we find, this will require a great deal of diplomatic activity in relationships to those who have been and are in friendly relations to Starr through the Warner connections.
23. (Q) Is this the time for me to interest Capital to join me to merge Brunswick with [994], or when will be time? [See 994-3 Reports.] (A) As we find, the better time - under the present situations and conditions - will be in the spring.
24. (Q) Who would be best to interest and how should I proceed? On what basis? (A) This will depend a great deal upon developments between now and in April, or June.
25. (Q) Would Gen. Elec., Julius Kahn of Cleveland, Manufacturers Trust of N.Y., or some other source be best for my future, as partners in Brunswick? (A) This depends, as just indicated. This had best be determined as situations develop. There are to be some changes in these organizations before that time.
26. (Q) Would Warner Bros. be interested in developing Brunswick with me? (A) Not under the present relationships. These may be ironed out so that there might be a great deal of confidence put into the activities of some of those handling the policies of the Warner Brothers Company.
27. (Q) Would Columbia Broadcasting Co. thru Wm. Paley at Madison & 53rd St., N.Y., be interested? or a good partner in this business? (A) No.
28. (Q) As to cabinets now being made at the American Furniture Co. for Gen. Elec., will the association work out along present lines for my best interests? (A) Read just what has been indicated as to how the policies of both of the activities, or those that interest the General Electric and the American as to make them conform as a cooperative activity. Now these done, they will work out to be satisfactory. If not, confusion and disturbance.
29. (Q) What should I do for my own protection, if anything? (A) See that these policies are made to be in conformity one to another.
30. (Q) How do Ford and Simmons feel now since their visit at Bridgeport?
257-211 Page 4
(A) More optimistic, and that would cover just about the whole situation.
31. (Q) How does Dr. Baker at G.E. feel to me and American now, since visit? (A) He's waiting on the activities of others.
32. (Q) How can Baker and I aid one another? (A) This depends upon what are the ideals of each. If the ideals in relationship to the activities in all the associations conform one to another, very well. If they are conflicting one with another, not so good.
33. (Q) What benefit to me if I buy some Gen. Elec. stock? (A) Well, this would depend upon the ability to pay for same, and for what price, and as to how the activities are to be. Very good stock as a buy.
34. (Q) Should I hold the preferred stock of Republic Steel as a future investment? (A) This is very well.
35. (Q) How will these stocks be affected by the war? (A) Advance.
36. (Q) How far will they go? (A) This depends upon how much involvement there comes in the activities in relationships to the abilities to supply through the various channels the necessary materials for activity in those directions.
37. (Q) What "sleeper stocks" will make an unusual gain in 1939? (A) Let's leave stocks out, if we would get the better for these.

39. (Q) Should I acquire any American Fur. Co. stock now? (A) If able and willing, and in keeping with the policies, very well.
40. (Q) Will David Birnbaum of England be of any aid to me or vice versa in financial matters and how? (A) This will depend upon many a situation that has arisen in relationships to these. As we find, it will be a very good connection to hold to, but do not try to press to use too much.
41. (Q) I have an interest in a tract of land and a well now being drilled in Section 13, Township 3 North, 4 East, Ponotoc County, Oklahoma. Can we expect a good well on this property? (A) A satisfactory well.
42. (Q) Please give depth and details of drilling and possibilities of its future. (A) These are kept in line with those things that are being followed out. Watch those, and those in connections with
257-211 Page 5
the logs of other wells that have been drilled in the vicinity - they will be very much in the same way and manner. For these reach such depths that they become as conforming one to another.
43. (Q) Is there oil under this property in any other place beside present hole? (A) This is a very good field.
44. (Q) Is present hole straight? (A) This can be worked if it will be carried on.
