Time of Reading 3:40 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Body & enquiring mind, who seeks further guidance, advice and counsel in the carrying on of his present work, as to his present physical condition, and as to what changes, if any, should be made in any of his present activities. Questions.)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [261]; this we have had before.
2. Now, in the physical forces of the body we find these are continuing somewhat on the improve. There still continues to be at periods a return of some disturbances, yet these - as we find - are gradually being disseminated or dissipated as to the primary causes that have been heretofore indicated. And with those proper precautions as to the activities physically, mentally - as to the proper relations and proper relaxations and precautions as to the diet, keeping those things necessary in corrective ways and manners that have been had from stimulating the centers that make for the proper gastric flows such as to keep the proper balances in the system - we find the body should continue to be not only relieved but upon the improve in physical reactions. [See previous Physical Rdgs. for his gastritis.]
3. As to the associations, the business activities, we find there are those conditions that have made for disturbances at times; yet the general trends of activity in the commercial, in the investment, in activities among those with whom the body comes in contact, are gradually on the improve. And the extending of the activities into those fields where there would be brought more and more the relationships with those who are seeking through such channels for investments, this portion of the activities should grow to be more and more active, more and more not only remunerative to the body but of the more satisfactory nature as the general conditions show improvement.
4. As to the connections where there have been others not so
261-13 Page 2
satisfactory as to their returns and as to the associations of various characters, various activities; the discarding of some of these associations has proven to be the better conditions for the body, yet in many of these as we find - there will come periods when they may be very helpful. However, these would have little or no influence upon the spreading or the increasing of the body's activities into those fields where more and more he would be the representative of groups or individuals in the investing of funds.
5. Ready for questions.
6. (Q) Would you comment on general business and financial conditions as you find them in this country, and also in other countries that affect conditions in this country; and what is the trend of the conditions for the next few months? (A) This, as we find, is rather a large order to be considered in a few words. Yet, as we find, when we consider the country and the conditions in the various portions of the country, these are greatly on the improve. However, the creating of that necessary confidence in the various groups - for their investments, in not only individuals' activities but the greater group activity - has not wholly yet been rehabilitated. But there is a general trend of more and more confidence, and conditions with those that may be said to be in authority in these directions. In the next few months, as indicated, there will be a period when the whole situation that has been builded must indeed be upon trial in this particular country; that is, the rehabilitating of the confidence, see? There will be used the situations in other countries as a portion of the excuse - EXCUSE of those that may raise their voice as to the disturbing factors, or to make disturbing factors. As we find, these will make for a period when there will be some little uneasiness again created in the general financial structural centers of the country; yet will in the next three or four months adjust themselves - that is, the readjustment or rehabilitating of the conditions will come within sixty to ninety days after such an uneasiness occurs - which, as we find, will be in February, you see. Then there will be through the year (or the coming year) a general trend toward an improvement. In some circles, as in the monetary units of the various countries and their various changes that are to become - and will be - a portion of the questions that arise; these, of course, are to be considered - but the stabilization of these, at least through the greater portion of the coming
261-13 Page 3
year, will make much nearer to normal conditions - or tending towards much nearer normal activities. In general, these are the conditions as we see them from the present trend.
7. (Q) What industries will show the quickest and most sustained recovery? (A) The INDUSTRIAL conditions. To be sure, as indicated, in many centers of the financial structure of the country the industrials - as those headed by steels and those things that come from the manufactured portion of these - are the backbone of a greater portion of the activity; while the agricultural field or activity is the greater bone of contention, yet is the basis for all of the activity in some quarters - and the necessity of supply and demand should be, and will be, kept in such a way and manner as to maintain a greater equilibrium in these directions. But the increase, and the greater activity, will be in industrials.
8. (Q) Public utility companies have been beset by politicians. Is it likely that the securities of such companies will again become desirable investments? (A) After those periods as indicated, when there will be some greater stabilization through the activities of the united influence of the monetary influences of the world, then these will become more desirable as investments. This, then, would begin in April and May; for of course - in what is called the speculative forces or interests - there are to be two special flurries in February and in April and the first weeks of May.
9. (Q) In theory I am dividing my time devoted to business, one half to National Bancservice Corporation and its subsidiaries, one quarter to the National Lithographic Code Authority and one quarter to investment counsel and personal matters. Because of the large amount of work to be done in each of these activities I am not performing in any of them to my own satisfaction. Am I attempting to do too much, or have I poorly organized my work or should I have more assistance? (A) As indicated in regard to these, let the greater portion of the increase be in the activities outlined; for there are the ABILITIES of the body and its activities to shift - as it were - more and more of the responsibilities in the other fields of activity, see?
10. (Q) If I am attempting to do too much, where should I cut down? (A) As indicated, let the cutting down be rather the shifting of the responsibilities. And this allows a cut
261-13 Page 4
down, at the same time allowing a greater activity or expending of self in those fields where - as indicated - there should gradually come not only the greater remuneration for the body's activities but the greater service that the body and entity itself may render in its associations.
11. (Q) The subsidiaries of National Bancservice Corporation have in recent months been doing better. Do you wish to make any comments or suggestions in connection with the Wilson H. Lee Company at Orange, Connecticut, Rogers-Kellogg-Stillson Company at 461 Eighth Ave., N.Y., or Christmas Club at 341 Madison Ave., N.Y.? Are any further changes in personnel advisable? [Ques. interrupted at 1st Co. named.] (A) As we find, there will be little or no comment on these, other than that the policies should be kept in much the same way and manner; and, as we find, are satisfactory in their general increase or expansion.
12. (Q) The Rogers-Kellogg-Stillson Co. (A) This is very good, but not so good as some of the others and their activities. And this we would keep, with some minor changes as conditions develop.
13. (Q) Christmas Club - (A) This is very good; and we would go a little bit stronger in some of these in their spreading out - these would be well; keep these.
14. (Q) Are any further changes in personnel advisable? (A) Only so far as would enable the body, [261], to shift - as it were responsibilities; but not with jeopardizing interests - or that of others either.
15. (Q) The financial structure of National Bancservice Corporation is still top heavy. Should any steps be taken at this time to correct this condition? (A) Rather, as we find, would this be necessary a little bit later, when there are the readjustments of the general conditions with the regular season or changes that come in the natural order. And by then, as we find, with the varied improvements in general conditions, the varied activities in this service and activity, there should be the enabling of the associations of itself and of the body to make for some improvements in these conditions.
16. (Q) Should I plan to stay with this company and gradually devote more time to it in attempting to make it an outstanding printing company? (A) As indicated, we find - for the greater service or activity - there would be the shifting gradually from these, rather than to them, in a greater expending of self and
261-13 Page 5
time, see? More of the personal direction of personal service, as we find, will gradually grow to be more and more the remunerative, the more and more satisfactory activity for the body.
17. (Q) Should I keep a financial interest in National Bancservice? (A) As time for the change comes, gradually this may be altered or changed depending, to be sure, upon the returns that come from same. And with the activities or conditions that should become rather the determining factors as to how, through these changes and these reorganizations that will be effected in all portions of the activities of this association and this company, these will make for the ability for the entity, for the body, to change somewhat in this direction.
18. (Q) Would I be more contented and more useful in any other field of activity than I am now engaged in? (A) As we have indicated, and as we find from the general associations and activities, more and more the personal service in those directions outlined will gradually make for that which will be the more satisfaction, less worriment, and less of the dependence upon the activities of others that have and do at times become the disturbing factors in the body's relationships with others.
19. (Q) How should I get additional clients for personal service work? (A) As the activities of the body bring the more and more satisfactory relationships with others, and through those channels that these create by the natural means, a healthy growth comes from the service rendered, see? And as more time is given in these directions, and as more of self may be given in these directions, these will bring of themselves the more and more clients, see?
20. (Q) Should I associate myself with other people doing the same kind of work? (A) More or less these associations should come, of course, naturally; for like begets like, and the associations of same bring the proper relations. For the self is well balanced in being able to choose here and there when it is necessary in these associations, and it would be well.
21. (Q) My present income and expenses are not in proper balance. Is it likely that my income will increase as the months go by, or should I endeavor to further reduce my expenses? (A) As indicated, all of these conditions or associations are in the position where the income is going to be, WILL be, increased; not to enormous strides at once, but the gradual increase in the conditions and in the activities will bring the greater and greater income. As we find in
261-13 Page 6
the whole, not necessary for any decided curtailment in the immediate; for all of these will be met. Only those things that are necessary for the keeping of self in its own mental attitudes in that position of knowing and feeling that these are coming right. See?
22. (Q) Should I further support William Goodwin, located at the Grand Central Palace, in his activities - The A. G. B. Associates, Goodwin Morton and Badrian and Codisco? (A) This presents itself as a problem. For while these have continued to be more and more of a drain upon the activities of the body, and the appearances would be in the present that to continue to sustain the activities is sending good money - as it were - after bad, the conditions here are in a very favorable status in the present. As we find, we would not be too quick in withdrawing the support that is given in the present. As to sustaining any great amount in these directions in the present, rather - as indicated heretofore - use the ability for advice and counsel and direction of policy, than great amounts of capital.
23. (Q) Should I further support Richard Wightman of Old Saybrook, Conn., and the Shav-Easy? (A) This deserves, as we find, further support; and should bring very shortly more satisfactory returns.
24. (Q) Regarding the Physical condition: Cold air and draughts quickly cause congestion in my head. Is this because of my general condition? Do you recommend any specific remedy? (A) As just indicated as to those conditions wherein there are those effectual activities when there is the creating in the system of a superacidity. Acidity is that in the supply of the lymph and blood itself, or in the circulatory system, which allows the effectual action of cold, draught, or any of those activities which produce the effect of congestion localizing - as in head or in arm or any portion of the body. Hence there should be kept the general condition of the system in a tendency more towards alkalinity; and this may be determined by the test of self from the spittle or from the urine, or both, so that it is known that there is kept an equal balance in the system. For these, of course, are the channels of elimination through the supply to the lymph circulation, and to portions of the eliminating system, show whether the alkalinity and acidity are kept balanced or not. Then, we would use the alkaline eliminants that are not in the form of astringents such as to make conditions like
261-13 Page 7
that; but rather Upjohn's Citrocarbonate - or those things that act without becoming of a sedative nature. And keeping for an even balance in this manner will make for the overcoming of these conditions.
25. (Q) By using treatment previously given for dandruff [261-2, Par. 9-A] I can hold it in check but have been unable to cure it. Can any more be expected? (A) As the circulation is kept or maintained more and more near normal, we will find those applications as local or tentative conditions become more and more effective. Hence we would keep a better GENERAL physical condition, so that - as it may be proverbially spoken - the body may be kept on the "up and up", or building up rather than at a standstill or ready to fall off or be subject to conditions that would become disturbing to the body.
26. (Q) Do you recommend any tonic to be used between the treatments previously given? (A) The compounds that are already used for this particular body, as the Quinine tonic, will be very effective.
27. (Q) One of my teeth - the lower jaw on the right side - is sensitive when I bite on it. Do you find anything wrong, and if so can it be cured? (A) This should have some local attention, as the enamel lower in the inner side shows some disturbance there. And if applications are made there, as we find, they would be effectual in eradicating the disorder.
28. (Q) Are there any suggestions or advice further for this body at this time? (A) In the physical keep the body in those attitudes that make for constructive forces in the body at all times. In the mental attitude and the associations and relations, keep those that make not only for the betterment of self but of all the associations - through keeping the spiritual insight as the basis for all activities.
