Time of Reading 9:25 to 9:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. San Fran., Ca.
1. HLC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [270], ..., San Francisco, Calif., who seeks information and advice for his guidance in health, mental and material affairs. You will answer the questions he has presented, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [270].
3. Ready for questions.
4. (Q) Is the present physical condition as good as that found before? (A) In some respects as well; in others about the same; not a great deal of difference in the present. For the glandular swelling - [carbuncle on neck?] melt or liquefy the Mutton Tallow, then add an equal quantity of Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor, in the same proportions and order named. If properly mixed, this combination will almost solidify, and if used will be found to be of real benefit. But an over quantity of either of these makes for too much penetration of the other, and too much elasticity in the other, you see. They should be in equal proportions; say a tablespoonful of each (measuring the Mutton Tallow melted, not in lump form). Mix in this manner and we will have no disturbance.
5. (Q) Should the Adiron tablets be continued? (A) Not until cold weather. With as much exercise in the open, there is sufficient of the vitamins, as well as some of the effect that is obtained in iron from the sun. Hence the irritation and roughness at times to the superficial circulation.
6. (Q) Has ample time lapsed and is my physical condition such that other body blemishes may now be removed? (A) With the same applications as indicated, these may also be materially aided.
7. (Q) Is there any further advice for the health and well
270-46 Page 2
being of my body? (A) Well that there is sufficient exercise, especially in water or in walking, and in the open, for the better general health of the body.
8. (Q) Is a definite background being established as a result of my study at the Raymond School? (A) A definite background is being established.
9. (Q) Is there any specific advice that should be given me for my guidance in this study? (A) It is to keep, of course, or specialize in the fields of activity in which the entity is desirous of the further or greater advancement, in its relationships to its general physical activity, as well as its daily actions or labors.
10. (Q) Is it advisable that I continue working with the Raymond School or seek a tutor that will manifest a more receptive attitude? (A) It is advisable to continue for the time being, at least.
11. (Q) Should any other subjects be reviewed? (A) Those best in keeping with the general application of self to the field of activity as indicated.
12. (Q) Are there other changes such as the abolishment of the Divisional Offices at Omaha contemplated in 1940? (A) If so, it is not indicated as we find from any channels here. However, this may be a part of the general development for the unification of the service of all of the organizations under the activity of the A.T. & T.
13. (Q) Will the Atlanta and Dallas Divisional offices be consolidated in 1941? (A) This will depend upon other activities that will be of a more general or more national nature.
14. (Q) Is this the part of the whole plan to amalgamate and unify the communication systems? (A) This, as indicated heretofore, is a part of a general plan, when this may be carried out.
15. (Q) When will a definite outline of this plan be available? (A) This again will depend upon circumstances.
16. (Q) Will this consolidation include the telephone and radio companies? (A) If it is possible for it to be accomplished under the one head, it will.
17. (Q) May an increase in the current value of both Western Union and I.T. & T. stocks be expected? (A) This as we find after October may be expected.
18. (Q) Is it planned to segregate plant accounting work in Chicago and New York for the entire United States? (A) It's FROM the entire United States, or from the rest of
270-46 Page 3
the activities, yes.
19. (Q) Will this materialize in 1941? (A) Rather in 1943.
20. (Q) You will now review my present status, working conditions and surroundings, advising if my attitude, personal conduct and performance has been satisfactory. (A) This not to be judged from here. As we have indicated, the entity should set a standard and attempt in all of its dealings and activities to live up to it, in so far as the qualifications or the abilities allow the entity to do so.
21. (Q) Are the policies being adhered to and entanglements avoided? (A) These are very good save in some specific quarters where there have been some animosities. These as we find are being obliterated to a great extent, but will require some time as yet.
22. (Q) Why do I continue to encounter local aggravating conditions? How may these be overcome? (A) As indicated from the very beginning, these might be expected; and arise as we find from the specific resentment of individuals who feel that there are conditions which might have been changed if there had been the adherence to suggestions they had made. Within the self, as we find, the entity is to live, to act, to conduct self in such a way as to conform to that ideal activity which the entity sets in regard to the field of service in which the entity finds self at the present time.
23. (Q) Is a definite foundation being prepared for present and future activity and advancement in the accounting department? (A) For present and future advancement - this will depend very much upon general circumstances, organizations and classifications that are to be determined as the various combinations or departments are made, in the various fields of activity in which the entity has been engaged. But as for the entity's activities, these as a whole or in general are in correct line.
24. (Q) Is there a likelihood that I will be transferred back to the plant department? (A) This may be. This depends upon SO MANY circumstances, that it would make it rather inadvisable to say yes or no. Either might be correct.
25. (Q) Will you advise why I have not made greater progress in my service with the Western Union and what qualifications I lack that will enable me to be of greater service to the company and my associates? (A) As indicated, the personal animosities of individuals. To be sure, this should not be - but personalities exist, and such conditions are a part of the experience of every
270-46 Page 4
individual. These should be met in ways and manners that are in keeping with that the individual sets as an ideal relationship between the employer and employee.
26. (Q) Is it evident that the present division plant superintendent will not retire when he reaches the age limit in 1941? (A) He will retire before the completion of '41, but not by general retirement.
27. (Q) Regarding estate matters in Chicago, is satisfactory progress being made in working out detail for loan to clear up taxes? (A) This is very satisfactory regarding the property and the manner in which there may be the loans for same, for the carrying on of the obligations as related to same.
28. (Q) Is there a reason or condition that will not permit attorney removing estates of my mother and brother from probate this October as planned? (A) Not as we find.
29. (Q) Will the McFarland bequest be disposed of on the basis of my compromise offer? (A) There will be other compromises asked for or sought before it is finally settled.
30. (Q) What plan shall I pursue in the sale of property at 2314 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago? (A) As we find, it has not changed since that as indicated heretofore.
31. (Q) Is the present tenant financially capable of handling? (A) He is.
32. (Q) With the defense program gaining momentum, world conditions growing worse, is not the entrance of the United States into this war inevitable? (A) This has nothing to do with the man's conditions here. These as we find are rather as national interests, and are more or less of a passive interest here. We do not find it NECESSARILY so that there will be the entrance into the war directly; there already is indirectly.
33. (Q) Will the third term aspirations of the President be accepted by the commonwealth? And will he serve out a third term if elected? (A) This has nothing to do with the seeking here.
