1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [334], % [dept. store], ..., N.Y.C., who seeks information, advice and guidance, as to his contemplated associations with the Amalgamated Broadcasting Co., 501 Madison Ave., 25th floor, N.Y.C., and as to his contemplated establishing of an advertising agency. You will answer the questions which he has submitted, as I ask them.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [334]; this we have had before. Ready for questions.
3. (Q) Should I make any connection with Ota Gygi, Ed Wynn, and the Amalgamated Broadcasting Co.? (A) As we find, this organization - in its present form, and policies and plans that have been considered in more or less, as yet, small but definite way - is worthy of serious consideration. If the policies or plans are changed, then the whole proposition would present a different aspect. As for the present organization, the lending of name - or the active service that may be rendered by [334] - might be of a considerable advantage to the organization; but as for the advantages - as yet - that would accrue to [334], we fail to see any definite returns.
4. (Q) If I should make any connections with them, what should be the nature of the agreement? (A) To be sure, this would depend upon how much of the time and abilities the body would expend in the direction of aiding to further the plans. To be sure, as we find, in ANY connection it would not be well to lose - at the PRESENT time, and under the PRESENT situations - those connections that are held at the present. Should there be the abilities on the part of the Amalgamated Broadcasting Company to FURTHER their activities in some of

the directions that have been spoken of, without definite plans laid or taken as to HOW or WHEN these may be consummated, these offer then - as we have suggested - POSSIBILITIES; but it would be some time, as we find, before the positive or actual returns for [334] would be sufficient to JUSTIFY the disassociations in the PRESENT connections, for whole or entire time in connections with another broadcasting company. For these conditions (as the body well knows) present themselves: There is at the present time the serious consideration of an amalgamation of many of the modes and manners necessary to the best interests of broadcasting, and necessary facilities for the producing of same on a scale as to make the organizations - or ANY organization that might be, or might inject its efforts in this direction - become amenable to that amalgamated organization. Not the Amalgamated Broadcasting Company; we aren't speaking of that - for this goes much deeper; for it takes - or includes - American Tel, Western Union, Postal, and RKO, and other organizations. Now, the consideration is this: Is this organization capable, financial]y powerful in influence sufficiently, to meet these conditions that are taking shape; and that have been in the field of service and activity in this direction for such a period as to own and control many of the facilities necessary for perfecting of same? It's SOME proposition! But, if there are those facilities open at the time - and these are able to be reached through the group interested in this direction, then it's another consideration - see?
5. (Q) Is the Amalgamated Broadcasting Co. organized soundly? (A) Depends upon what approach that this would be made! As we find, that association necessary in many of the fields necessarily touched - or, as we have indicated, that necessarily must be touched - hasn't been seriously considered, as to the costivity; or there hasn't been serious enough consideration for a great extenuation or effectiveness in the Amalgamated, as yet.
6. (Q) Will the present owners and operators of the station remain in the management control? (A) This is the same as asking if it's going to rain tomorrow! or if there will be a thunder storm on the 3rd of June, 1949!
334-1 Page 3
In consideration of these conditions, much of this - of getting to the basis of it - has been formed for speculation; much of it has been formed in serious earnestness. Then, the judgement should be on individuals. As to what any man may do with his mind, has his Maker been able to determine?
7. (Q) Do they have the right connections in Washington to increase the power of their station from 250 watts? (A) This may be done.
8. (Q) Should they try to buy a more powerful local station? (A) Increase their own would be the better!
9. (Q) Would it be wise for me to establish an advertising agency now, and use the Amalgamated as a part time account? (A) Be very well, if the proper associations and connections are taken.
10. (Q) Should Martin North, of Wernersville, Penna., be included in the plans for a company? (A) From SOME angles, worthy of consideration; from others, can it be done and not change the whole personnel in such a way and manner that the control is to remain in one direction? These are the questions, rather than the individual. The OUTCOME, see?
11. (Q) In what way should [257] be associated with the Amalgamated Broadcasting Co.? (A) That depends upon how broad a field, how wide a territory, how great the expanse is to be in the broadcasting field; for these, as given, while they offer opportunities - especially through some of the individuals who are interested; yet the value of many a broadcaster, as an individual, loses the effectiveness when cut of from NATIONALLY known products. This is a consideration to be made in the personnel, and in the activities of all such organizations. We do not find that it would be HARMFUL, but how it may be made HELPFUL - and not expensive, for some time to come - would be a great question to [257].
12. (Q) What will be the future of the Amalgamated Broadcasting Co.? (A) Depends upon too many things to even GUESS as to what the future would be! For, as indicated, the activities depend upon the following questions in ANY organization; whether in the field of broadcasting or making shoe laces, blacking, or cutting

diamonds: Is there the need for such an organization in the field of activity at the present time? Does the field JUSTIFY the formation of an organization with the ideals and purposes that are contemplated by the personnel of the organization? (These are questions to ask self, see?) What has this organization and its personnel to offer that is more worth while than can be obtained in similar fields of activity at a less figure, or an equal figure? Are the associations and connections of such a nature as to JUSTIFY all of these? By the policies and the ideal - not idea, but IDEAL that prompts the personnel - may all these questions be answered Yes, such that the organization has the RIGHT to demand recognition in the field at the present time? If all these questions can be answered Yes, and can be proven to your own consciousness, DIG IN!
