Time of Reading 10:35 to 10:55 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., Va.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [341], present in this room, and the plans for the trip which he intends to conduct during the months of July and August with Mr. [2136], [487], Harry [...]; Randolph [...]; Ferebee [...]; Berry [...]; Knaus [...]; and Stanley [...] as companions. You will advise [341] as to how this trip may be made as successful as possible, indicating any conditions that may arise that will require special attention considering the route to be traveled and the experiences to be met. Answer questions.

2. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, [341], present in this room; the contemplated trip, the route, the companions.

3. As we find, in giving that which may be helpful in meeting the emergencies that may arise in such an undertaking, the individuals as indicated will have conditions in themselves to meet. Precautions especially for certain individuals; as with [2136] of poison ivy and those kindred weeds and things, for the body will be - under the strain - susceptible to these conditions; while [Randolph] and [Knaus] should have special care and precautions taken pertaining to a diarrhea condition. Take Duees Mixture with you. With others, there will be almost normalcy throughout.

4. The greater precautions, then, will be respecting the water after you have passed beyond the Mississippi River, and especially in the southwest and in the central portion upon returning.

5. With these precautions, as we find, there is little that is not known respecting precautions already to be taken that would be helpful.

6. As for the general circumstances that surround such an undertaking, the natural precaution of both in charge should be not to such intention as to make the overanxiety or over-zealousness, but do not allow those things that are of

341-41 Page 2

the nature especially in these lines that have been indicated - and especially for those individuals as given.

7. Make special precautions and preparations for caring for conditions under those environs.

8. Ready for questions.

9. (Q) Through which area should [2136] be most careful of the poison ivy? (A) It'll be the whole area!

10. (Q) What would be the best remedy for him? (A) Take internally that which might prepare the system for the resistance against such things, you see, which would be - as we find for the body - to have, of course, those things that are the best for such; as the stearates that may be powdered on, and taking internally the properties that make resistances in this direction - which will be, for the body in the present, a combination of Milk of Bismuth and Lactated Pepsin - half and half.

11. (Q) Through what areas would there be danger of the diarrhea with [Randolph] and [Knaus]? (A) The water area, where it is the alkaline.

12. (Q) What should be used for this; give specific directions. (A) As indicated, carry Duees Mixture - that is made for such tendencies. Don't leave a body on the way in any area, you see, from illness, temperature, fever, or any of those conditions.

13. (Q) Are there directions on Duees Mixture for the proper dosage? (A) There's directions!

14. (Q) Or should any special use be made of it for these particular boys? (A) Only when necessary. Take the proper precautions. Especially through certain areas, as far as possible before entering the areas, it would be well to carry the water with you; yet this, of course, is of itself impractical in many. But have the precautions as to the proper medical attention through the centers where there are any tendencies for the conditions to become aggravated in these individuals, or any of the rest.

15. (Q) What is a general dose of the Duees Mixture? (A) Teaspoonful. It's there marked, on the bottle, or it should be!

16. (Q) Will the infantile paralysis epidemic be so dangerous as to prevent us entering the park areas of California? (A) Not so prevalent; or as long as you are in the open there's little to be feared from such conditions. Or where there are the areas for such, precautions should be taken by those in authority or the officials; and don't attempt, of

341-41 Page 3

course, to override these, for this would not be in keeping with the general condition or the purposes for which the organization stands that is represented by the body of [341].

17. (Q) What special precautions should I take regarding infantile paralysis? (A) Take iodine [Atomidine] when you are passing through the areas!

18. (Q) How should this be taken; what should be the dosage? (A) Take it in water! The dosage would be what is necessary for the body; anywhere from one to five minims two to three times a day.

19. (Q) Is Atomidine referred to, or plain iodine? (A) Atomidine; for the iodine is poisonous!

20. (Q) Any warnings regarding the conveyance? (A) Very good, as we find. Little trouble will be experienced in this, except when you begin to return and the climbing.

21. (Q) How can we make the best for each one on this trip? (A) As we have indicated heretofore for such [See 341-40?] let each boy be his own guide in recording that they as individuals meet. That will be the better. USAGE of same in the experience of all. Keep the notations, and require this.

22. (Q) What precautions should be taken regarding spiders, snakes, etc., during the trip? (A) Just those necessary precautions as the warnings will be in the various vicinities. And these should be required or asked from the natives in whatever portion of the country in which the activities may be. Of course, do not camp in any of those areas where you are warned that you are in the reptile area, or other insects or vermin that would be harmful. Don't make encampments in places that you are warned against! For, in all those areas through which you would pass, there are those precautions that are national and local - that are looked after by such. And just ask! For he that asks receives.

23. (Q) Will it be best or necessary for [487] to continue the rub twice a day while on this trip, or may it be discontinued? [See 487-15.] (A) May be discontinued, to be sure, at any period; but this has been given as a precaution, you see.

24. (Q) Any other advice for [341] or [2136]? (A) Let the whole development be for all those, not only as a group that is sight-seeing - but let it be inclusive for all those developments of the body-physical, mental and

341-41 Page 4

spiritual. If these attitudes will be kept throughout, there should be experienced little or no trouble.

25. (Q) Are there any special areas covered in the contemplated trip where the plans should be left out or changed for any reason? (A) Not as we find. Only those special precautions that we have spoken of, respecting the various areas through which you would go.

26. (Q) Will there be any disturbances in any part of the country through which we go that would be dangerous? (A) These will not begin before October. You ought to be back before then.

27. (Q) Will any danger be experienced with any of the boys through caves or hiking trips, or in the mountains? (A) Not if the precautions are taken. Some of them are very venturesome. This must be curbed from the first. Not curbed in the manner that "You CAN'T do it," but in the manner of the precautions necessary first for the individuals; and then for those that would be responsible for the welfare and the better conditions for each one. This should be a portion of their training all the way through. You have some very self-centered; some rather selfish; some very peculiar developments will be seen as to the characteristics of individuals; but these precautions and developments should be kept as we have outlined. And let self first be just as circumspect as is desired of each individual, and require that circumspection and that association that makes for the consideration of the least to the greatest in the group.
