1. GC: You will have before you the enquiring mind of [341], ..., Fla., who seeks guidance and advice regarding the course of his activities, taking all phases of his development into consideration, ideals and purposes in this experience, including the effect on his life of the world situation. You will answer the questions he has submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: In considering the conditions and the circumstances that exist, in the purposes and ideals of the body in the present, to be sure many things and conditions are to be taken into consideration; and the possibilities and liabilities as may be involved in each in relationship to the ideals, and the effect general conditions may have - according to the choice made by the body respecting problems which exist in the present.

3. As the director and manager of the Association, and those problems and circumstances that confront same in the present - those activities should be considered seriously. From the ideals and purposes, much is due those offices, or officers, who have entrusted the management of same to the body. And, there should be considerations given this trust; what it involves as respecting the ideals of the body, those hopes as well as fears of the activities respecting same.

4. The needs of the Association or the Work as a whole, as a fitting into the purposes and ideals of those who have found physical, mental and spiritual values in those things presented through same - these need attention, now.

5. There are those problems as related to associations with the young manhood and boys that may be kept as a part of the activity in connection with same. These, too, should have due consideration.

6. There are those problems that present themselves as to home, as to the associations in home, and the prospects of family. These, too, should be taken into consideration.

7. There are the needs for considerations of the various affairs of the local activities, the county, the state, the

341-49 Page 2

nation. THESE are to be taken into consideration.

8. As to which of these offers the outlet for the fulfilling of the body's ideals, the body alone should answer. For, in all such considerations there is first the duty to self, to home, to the fellow man.

9. ALL may be fulfilled in a measure through that of an office which has been, not neglected - just put aside. Too, there may be a great aid given in those channels through which there may be the self-preservation from the actual entering into combat areas for service and activities. Is this worthy?

10. These all should be considered.

11. And "My Spirit beareth witness with thy spirit," saith the Lord - as choices are made.

12. Ready for questions.

13. (Q) Would you advise the local recreation work on partial time basis, in combination with the Association work? (A) This may be, this is - as has been indicated - the greater DUTY. Whether these are to be the choices must be up to the body. These we would advise as the first consideration.

14. (Q) Or exclusively Association work? (A) This should come later, provided there are sufficient funds able to carry on in an equitable and sufficient manner for the needs of body and mind AND the general conditions, see?

15. (Q) Please comment on development of cooperative farm project on [470] property in combination with any of the above? (A) This may become a part of the activities later, but not until at least another season. [See 470-35 on 6/22/42.]

16. (Q) Devoting more time to writing? (A) This has to be as set aside for separate or definite times, and the first duty is to those entrustments.

17. (Q) Please comment on the Public Work Reserve Agency job that has been suggested? (A) This is a good opening for material-minded conditions, but NOT wholly in keeping with the ideals and the spiritual aspirations and trusts that have been given the body.

18. (Q) Considering the trend of events will men with dependents (married) be called for army service? If so, is there any step that I could take now to better prepare for service? (A) This will not be until later, and this depending a great deal upon circumstances. If there are the activities in those fields where there are to become measures for a preparation of the people, and in the minds in this land, these may NEVER become necessary!

19. (Q) Considering the fact that I desire a child, what

341-49 Page 3

effect would the birth of a son or daughter have on the recommended activity? (A) This is dependent upon that chosen. That as recommended would be more in keeping with the ideals and purposes and the fulfilling and the carrying on. These are natural consequences of spiritual attitudes and aptitudes put into mental and practical application.
