Time of Reading 12:15 Noon - Eastern Standard Time.
1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [349], of ... Furniture Factories, ... Ave., N.Y. City, and you will Answer the questions which I will ask you regarding all phases of her life.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [349] - this we have had before.
3. (Q) I am very unhappy at the office - (A) (Interrupting) That's too bad!
4. (Q) (Continuing above Quest.) As I feel [257], my employer, is depending upon me less and needs me less. (A) This the body should learn: Such an attitude of mind in self will only engender dissatisfaction in self's attitude towards work attempted; and DO NOT forget that the Mind is the Builder! Would the body [If the body would] continue to keep such an attitude, it may be very sure there will be builded in the actions of self that condition as it felt. Should the body desire to correct same, know that the dependency can be PLACED in self and ACT in that manner! and GROW TOWARD where the requirements are more; but DO NOT try to act in a manner that thoughts build dissatisfaction in self, for these will breed dissatisfaction with the employer - and would the body be that more is required, yet unable to PERFORM that as IS required, feeling that it is too great a burden? Then WHY should not there be dependence put in others? Be not DOUBLE-minded. Use (slangly as would be said) common horse sense with good judgement in that that may be accomplished in self, and more may be accomplished in the attitude of self towards that attempting to be accomplished than in any other manner. Know that desired, the place, position, dependency desired. Then ACT that way!
5. (Q) Is Mrs. [189] who assists [257] absorbing any of my duties and is she taking my place in the business life of [257]? (A) NO ONE can take the place that an individual is to fill! These are not sensible even, much less reasonable questions - in positions as occupied! This is rather the condition of
349-6 Page 2
jealousy, which is the rust that destroys good judgement and good abilities in an individual. Know that desired. So fit self to fill that place. Then ACT that way, knowing no one else can possible fill self's OWN PLACE!
6. (Q) How can I make myself more valuable to [257]? (A) Just as has been GIVEN!
7. (Q) What will my place be in the new company [257] is now forming? (A) What would be that the body would desire? Then make self to be capable and able to fill that place, and ACT in that manner, and it will come about! Losing faith in SELF is that which creates dissatisfaction, discontent, in the activity of others. Would the entity, [If the entity, the body, would], the body, act in a manner that the dependency must be placed in someone else, then that will take place! Is the body so constituted, so abilitated [habilitated], to fulfill such and such duties, and not able nor capable - with the time and the physical abilities - to broaden to that necessary to meet the broadening conditions of the associations? Then fulfill, and fill completely, that which self is to ACCOMPLISH. And don't worry about the other fellow! Take care of that committed into thine own keeping, and do that WELL!
8. (Q) By taking away many of my duties and giving them to Mrs. [189], am I being restricted in my power to advance further in my position? (A) No!
9. (Q) Am I building myself up for a real position in this new company? (A) If self feels and is capable to accomplish that, yes. If self is feeling that someone else may fill it just as well, and is just as able and capable, then someone else can fill it just as well!
10. (Q) Should I continue along as secretary to [257]? (A) If so desired!
11. (Q) Please tell me attitude to assume toward [257], my associates and my position. (A) Just as has been outlined. Fill that as self is set to do. There is sufficient of knowledge concerning that required of the body to fill and to advance with the various conditions. Does the body desire that, or does the body like to lay blame on someone else? THAT is more often the greater dissatisfying element, that self becomes the stumbling block and the blame is placed on another.
12. (Q) Am I to blame for the way I feel in regard my position and is it my fault in any way that I am so unhappy in it?
349-6 Page 3
(A) Certainly!
13. (Q) How can I utilize my evenings and Sundays to best advantage? (A) Remember there has been given a law concerning how such days should be spent. [Ex. 31:13--17] Then know that love is law, and that law is that which may bring about the most necessary things in the mental, physical, and spiritual life of a body; for God will not be mocked by man's nor woman's, own insignificant ideas of self's importance as to laws concerning the mental, or the physical, or the spiritual being. These have been set in, "Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy." [Ex. 20:8] Then ONE day must be kept in that way that will feed the mental and SPIRITUAL life of a body. All work and no play will destroy the best of abilities. Yet these have been set in the manner as is outlined in the SPIRIT of "Remember to keep the day holy." The life must be a well-balanced life, not lopsided in any manner, to bring contentment - not necessarily be satisfied, for that is to become stagnant; but to find self in whatever position self occupies, force self to be CONTENT but NOT satisfied, knowing that the applications of the spiritual, mental, and physical laws are but the pattern one of another, and in so setting self in this direction all must be working in coordination and cooperation, even as any well-balanced business institution. For, in whatever form of life's endeavors one may find self, whether that of the note book, selling shoestrings or stocks and bonds, or building bridges, the manifestations of self are within that three-fold law as one, that the mental, the physical and the spiritual must be kept and must be fed in the way and manner as to bring contentment, not necessarily satisfaction, or satisfied - for satisfaction is as a grudge, and is breeding contempt of self and of others for self.
14. (Q) How can I get a broader and fuller social life and more friends of both sexes? (A) If one would have friends, one must show self friendly - for like begets like, and that is not hearsay but as TRUTH, and while the self may be in that position of feeling different - time, place, space, will show better.
15. (Q) Should I go ahead with my desire to study dramatics? (A) If so desired.
16. (Q) Should I take a course in journalism and writing? (A) If so desired. The mind may build whatever is desired to fill the place in the life. Do not try to ride two horses, or hobbies, or positions, in one - for all of self must be put in that as would be accomplished; for this is the law. That as is given and suffered for to attain, one attains - though the world may only see the blossom, but the
349-6 Page 4
muck must have been gone through to have attained that blossom. So is life. So is every phase of that that would be accomplished in a physical, a mental, or a spiritual life. Do not think that anyone cuts corners, for sooner or later it must be paid for in the sweat of the brow - either the mental, the physical, or the spiritual brow.
17. (Q) Shall I ask Mr. [165] of Chicago to aid me in getting a position in Chicago and at the same time study dramatics with Walton Pyre? [Dr. Walton Pyre] (A) If so desired.
18. (Q) Would I make a successful actress, as I have always wanted to be one from infancy up? (A) Rather a good deal of the life and of the service has been spent in other directions!
19. (Q) I feel I am not living my life according to my best talents. How can I best be true to myself? (A) By being true to self! and living and acting in that way and manner, WHATEVER may be the cost in the material or physical sense! for all must bear the cross [Luke 14:27; Gal. 6:5], and it is with self as to whether it is borne alone or whether He that will aid, and is ever ready, will assist.
20. (Q) Now the I am 25, my parents feel I should get married but I see no immediate prospects. What shall I say to them to ease their minds as they want to see me happy and I want to make them happy. (A) Then act in that way and manner as will make them happy, if THAT is the purpose of the life. Is thine own life to be lived, or is the life to be lived in accord with that desire of others? There is seen in thine own self that reason WHY this has not been consummated sooner. Which then is the greater? that as would be accomplished in the social way in the home, or in the business career? Make up the mind of SELF, for others CANNOT make it up for you - for, as has been written, MAN was made in the image of his Creator [Gen. 1:26, 27], with the abilities to choose for himself [Deut. 30:19; Josh. 24:15]. Would you make yourself as one of the animals and be led about by the will of the wind? or wilt thou stand upright and act like one of the sons of God? We are through for the present.
