1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [349], who is in Room ... at ... Ave., New York City. You will answer the questions she has submitted regarding her physical body, and mental and material affairs.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [349] - this we have had before. There are many changes in the physical, the mental and material affairs, of the body, since last we had same here.
3. In the physical conditions we find there are the effects of a nervous strain, that the body has been warned of in times past, and the physical reactions that now exist are as the material manifestations of those conditions that have been created in the system. The eliminations becoming somewhat clogged by the improper diet, the result has been an irritation in the capillary circulation - or an incoordination became existent from the disturbance in the eliminating system.
4. To meet these requirements in the present, we would find that by the addition of elements from without - that would make for the proper stimuli in the system - these would disappear, provided the diet is kept in accord with same, especially during those periods while such properties are being assimilated by the system.
5. For the physical disturbance we would begin as this, then:
6. Take Fowler's solution of arsenic. Begin with one drop in half a glass of water once each day. Take one drop each day for three days. On the fourth day increase to two drops - take THIS for three days. Then increase after that to THREE drops - take THIS for three days. Then stop for ONE day, and begin again with ONE minim for three days, then the two minims for three days, then the three minims for three days, then four minims for three days. Then stop one day and begin again with the one minim, increasing this after each three days until five is taken - then stop for one day,
349-10 Page 2
then begin with the one minim again. At the conclusion of this at five minims, the condition should be dispersed, and a condition of better coordination.
7. In the matter of diet with same, keep a NORMAL diet, eliminating any of greases - that is, of fried foods of any kind, and of condiments of any nature; very little salt, even, in the foods, and that taken should be of the vegetable rather than of the mineral salt, see?
8. With the conditions that disturb the body, the food values will have much to do with creating - with these properties' activity - the proper blood coordination in the system. As is understood, arsenic is a slow poison, in small quantities, as this, but it is also an element that will work with the gastric forces in the duodenum, and especially in the lacteal glands. Hence a well balanced diet, but no greases. As this:
9. Mornings - citrous fruits, or stewed fruits with cereal, or fresh fruits with cereal - but not both; that is, not the citrous fruit AND the cereal with the fruit in same. Or cereal, OR a citrous fruit may be taken, with a coddled egg - but do not eat other than the YOLK of the egg, with coffee or tea - but no milk in the coffee or tea, and little sugar.
10. Noons - preferably heavy broths, as meat juices or vegetable broths, with a little sweet, but no heavy salts or sauces in the foods taken. A little of the green vegetables, but only those that do not require any of the oil dressings on same.
11. Evenings - there may be taken chicken, beef, lamb, or the like, or sea foods - just so they are not fried; rather stewed or broiled, or cooked in milk - but do not use condiments in same. [See subsequent 349-12, Par. 17-A & 349-13 in re skin condition.]
12. Ready for questions.
13. (Q) What should I do to clear up condition of nose and throat? (A) We have given what to do. These, as we find, are from cloggings in the system by poor eliminations. It would be well that the head and neck exercise be taken morning and evening, about three to five minutes but be consistent and persistent, and we will find these conditions will be clarified.
14. (Q) What can I do to strengthen my gums and keep them from bleeding when cleaning teeth? (A) Use the properties in Ipsab for the massage, at least once or twice a week.
15. (Q) Will new glasses relieve strain around my eyes, or what should I do to relieve strain and strengthen them? (A) The head and neck exercise will strengthen them best of
349-10 Page 3
anything. We would not change the glasses until after these exercises have been taken for at least two weeks.
16. (Q) Any other advice for my physical? (A) If you'll do this it'll be a pile for a while!
17. (Q) If I adopt name of Carla Chandor professionally, will its vibrations help me to gain success on stage and screen? (A) Very good; but there has been suggested that which would be the better! [See 349-8 and 349-9 indicating her Grecian-Roman name was Belda.
18. (Q) What name will? (A) That as has been given!
19. (Q) When will Mr. [257]'s affairs be so adjusted, that I will be able to leave him for my dramatic work and feel that I am doing the right thing by him? (A) When the conditions have adjusted themselves within the next thirty to sixty days.
20. (Q) Will Miss Minna Phillips, with whom I am studying at present, be successful in getting me into Mr. Strickland's [F. Cowles Strickland] company at Strockbridge, Mass., this summer? (A) There are too many conditions that are to be questioned, as to whether this could be said yes or no, but are the conditions that are at present for the arrangements successful in their undertakings - which, to be sure, depends upon activities of individuals in the presentation of those various entertainments - are these [if these are] successful, then it would be. [See 349-10, Par R4.] Are these unsuccessful, they would not.
21. (Q) If so, should I go with them, or will Mr. Louis Altstruhl, director of the Brookfield Players at Brookfield, Conn., take me with them for the summer? (A) This is not as an ASSURED association, though they may BOTH be kept in mind and hand until there is a proposition of a definite nature made. Then accept the one that seems to present at THAT time the better opportunity for the DEVELOPING of the conditions that are DESIRED by the body.
22. (Q) Will I be offered the opportunity to go with Miss Elizabeth Miele's company at Sharon, Conn., the Sharon Players; or will Chamberlain Brown offer me a chance with one of his stock companies for the summer? (A) These may or may not. These depend upon many unseen conditions. These of the first two, and the last of the first two, offer - as we find, the better opportunities at the present. All such circumstances change, and depend much upon the temperament of MANY individuals who - If they don't know their will themselves, who could tell it?
23. (Q) If given the opportunity, which would be the best
349-10 Page 4
for me, in any of the four companies just given? (A) Just given. Just given.
24. (Q) Is there any advice or information I should have at this time, at the beginning of my new career, to assist me in getting started on this work? (A) Have an ideal set before self and work towards that, knowing that ability, as well as association or pull, or personality, applies as much or more than any element in making a success of an undertaking of this nature.
