1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [378], present in this room, and his associates and associations. You will advise him about his mental and material affairs. You will answer the questions which will be asked concerning these.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [378], present in this room, his associations and relations.
3. In the physical forces of the body, while we find these are very good in many respects, would some precautions - as we find - be taken in the present, we will find that greater results may be obtained in the mental and physical relationships, and distresses for the body prevented a little later on.
4. These conditions, as we find, have to do with ATTITUDES as arise from some of the physical and material associations, and are having effect upon the material body, preventing the proper relationships in the assimilations of the body, causing some drosses that make for those conditions as come at times in the head, as a little dizziness, and uncertainty in the activities in the actions of the body. These, to be sure, may be aided by material or outside influences or forces too much for their reactions in the system; rather that the change of environment and surroundings, and the outlooks, WITH a care taken as to proper eliminations, proper strength, proper vitality taken on in its activities, and we will find the results will be surprising. MEET, associate, in social way, many of those INTERESTS that are to be interested in the products of the associations of the body. In this way making these contacts, making these associations count, being out - Play well, as well as work well - and we will find these conditions will be on the improve. Ready for questions.
5. (Q) In reference to Louis Dejonge & Co. [paper mfg.] of 71 Duane St., N.Y. City, what is the outlook for this business in the next 3 months? (A) As we find, this in a GENERAL way and manner may be
378-2 Page 2
termed to be, will be satisfactory in many ways and manners. While conditions and involvements in some directions have been and are apparent, there are changes that will be - and can be made in these associations and affiliations of the company - that will make for a satisfactory outlook on the operations of the company.
6. (Q) How can more business be secured for their Staten Island, New York factory? (A) More business may be secured by the entrance more into the specific or definite fields where there are individual or specific products used that are specialities of the company itself, as in the various fields used that kind, the character of the various products are used. This, as to whether in the BINDERY product - as is at the present time at rather a low ebb in the matter of distribution, being cut off by the account of so little activity (compared to normalcy) in many directions; yet this would be the period, the time, for the entrance into these various fields that will make for the use of the products in this direction.
7. (Q) How can more business be secured for the Fitchburg, Massachusetts factory? (A) This entering more into the calendared surface of those products of these companies, or activities - these may be had through those of the necessary stocks for production of reprints, or of conditions or things pertaining TO that character of work, see? that is, as of re-production papers and products, as in special additions [editions?], special effects to be created or made in the making up of such products. See, is that stood here?
8. (Q) What other merchandise could be properly made in either or both of these factories? (A) Those that would be for the SPECIALTY houses, that make specialty products, that are sold or distributed in a regular way or channel, or manner. As in the cups, as in the coverings for pads, as in the coverings for those products where same are made for ADVERTISING purposes and fields. These are of necessity those that will be the first to open the new fields for endeavoring to obtain a great amount business, and at the same time offer a steady field for production from such plants - see?
9. (Q) What large firms should they contact for immediate business? (A) As Bigelow-Main (?), as Standard Advertising, as R. C. Maxwell, as such institutions or businesses that are MAKING a special effort in arousing interest in the greater advertising fields, see? [See clarification under 378-4, Par. 8-A--10-A.]
10. (Q) Is this the proper time to make changes in sales
378-2 Page 3
force, and if so, how? (A) If changes are to be made - and in entering this FIELD, as it were, or changes, we would find that more of the people who are specialty people in these DIRECTIONS in sales force might be changed to some extent, or expand some - or curtail some and expand in OTHER directions in this way.
11. (Q) How can a cork substitute be produced at the Staten Island factory that would replace real cork now being used for cigarette tips? (A) As we find, these might be made from those of the white birch, that making for - or made of the bark itself - a compound that would replace same for a much less outlay, when once set.
12. (Q) How should this be made? (A) Much in the same manner as is produced for the making of paper itself, only using the white birch bark, see? See, when this is made - that is, it's ground and produced much in the same way as the dough or the roll for papers, see? then when this is heated and rolled it makes VERY much the same product as cork, BUT at a MUCH LESS cost, see? and may be used for all purposes where cork in its thinnest form IS used, see? also this may be used as an immediate, or mediator where certain forms of RUBBER are used, see? as springs - in between springs, bumpers, and such. [7/27/31 See 378-4, Par. 1--4 and 1-A.]
13. (Q) How can the coating formula be changed on the paper made for the Aridor Company of Chicago so that the paper will be entirely satisfactory for their use? (A) This would have to be, naturally, worked through those combinations of the chemicals in the effect created in the surface of the paper itself. As we find, there are added too many of the acids in the formula in the present, but by some tests being made with these acids being changed as to the quantity, and when it is added for the surfacing of the particular paper, we will find that this may be worked out in a most satisfactory way and manner. Less acids in the first runs, see?
14. (Q) What can be done to stimulate the sales in the Bookbinders' Material Department? (A) This in itself will find a stimuli in the approach to the SPECIALTY companies, especially. Now this is a seemingly SMALL way and manner in its beginnings, but - as we will find - the greater number of the larger BINDERY concerns are ASSOCIATED or AFFILIATED in a manner WITH these specialty companies, see? Then, as these are reached, as these - or as efforts are made in reaching these, we will find this will STIMULATE and interest especially in the
378-2 Page 4
varied forms of leathers that go in for this bindery. Now this has been changed or altered a great deal by an exterior force from FOREIGN forces, see? through the putting in of substitutes from various countries that are refuses from things that have been sent in these forces! Now, when we reach these through the specialty companies, we will be able to overcome much of these. This is a matter of sales force, to be sure, or sales activity - but through these may the greater expanse be made in the book or the BINDERY products for these activities.
15. (Q) Are we making the samples of offset paper correctly? (A) Well, this has not been completed - as we find; yet we are working in the proper direction. There will be the necessity of the additions of more of those of the threads that MAKE for a combination, or holding, or texture of the paper itself, as we find. This added in a manner that it will make the offset paper an ensample that will be much greater in textile strength, much greater in its work - see?
16. (Q) Is our coating formula correct? (A) In a general - we are following in a general line. In this special paper that we have had, see, for the company here, we have been lessened - this should lessen the amount of the acids in its first run. In the general forming of the coatings these are very good, except where - of course - in the calendar papers, and these may be aided by the addition of some of those that we will find in the making up of this cork substitute.
