Time of Reading 4:50 to 5:25 P. M. Eastern Standard Time.
1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [417], present in this room, who seeks information, advice and guidance, as to his material affairs and mental well-being. You will give that which will be helpful to him at this time, and answer the questions he submits, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [417]; this we have had before.
3. In giving that which we find may be helpful and beneficial, there are the two approaches to conditions that exist in the experience of the body at this time: That from the purely material welfare, and that which will bring contentment, peace and harmony in the associations and in the activities of the body.
4. That which is of the material alone does not necessarily bring with same happiness or contentment, but the basis for the activities of the body in whatever direction that may be chosen for same must have its inception in that from the spiritual angle which is in keeping with the ideals of the body as related to spiritual things.
5. Ready for questions.
6. (Q) As I am at a loss as to what business to go into at the present time, will the Forces advise what is best for me to do? (A) When the varied conditions or propositions are considered, that do confront or present themselves to the body, as we find, that which would have the basis for activities in line with the better developments for the mental and the material would be in the manufacturing, or the distributing and manufacturing, of those that are to become in the near future the greater activities in the whole manifesting material conditions; that is, the manufacture or distribution of vinous spirits and malt liquors.
7. (Q) Is it advisable for me to sell beer barrels through [257]?
417-6 Page 2
(A) This is a very good connection, as we find, that might build or lead to that which would be worth while. However, as we find, a distribution of that which would be in barrels would be better than the barrels! Then you would need the barrels, and that in them too! Make associations or connections with the larger manufacturers, or those also that pertain to the imports of same - in the beginnings - that would be the larger activities that would make NOW, or in the very near future, the greater amount of moneys; and yet, handled in the proper way and manner (as the body is capable of doing, in its associations), would make for developments in every direction.
8. (Q) How should I go about this? (A) In connection with any of those who are making preparations for the manufacture of such products. Or make associations and connections with the larger organizations that maintain, or will maintain, offices for the importation of such into this country.
9. (Q) Should I interview Mr. [335]? (A) This is a very good association and connection; one that IS maintaining and IS making such associations; and which would fit in with the activities of the body in the present, and more so in the very near future.
10. (Q) What is [335]'s feeling toward me? (A) It would be indicated, from our having said that it would be a good association, that it would be satisfactory; hence the thoughts of [335] respecting [417] are excellent! We would make also those associations in this connection wherein - If this connection is made in the very near future, it will be necessary for the body to go abroad! but this shouldn't hinder from making the connection!
11. (Q) You mean connection with [335]? (A) To go abroad for the seeking of those things that will be in keeping with the wines, and some of the stronger liquors.
12. (Q) Would [257] play fair, should I decide to work with him? (A) Play fair; provided the arrangements are set in black and white before you begin. Not on just word, but word and in black and white. [9/29/33 Rdg. 257-123, Par. 45-A advised Mr. [417] & Mr. [257] going to D.C. for gov. business.]
13. (Q) What would be considered a fair deal? (A) A fair deal would be fifty-fifty in the activities that
417-6 Page 3
[417] HAS been making, or connections or associations. But why stop with these, except for secondary activities, in making the other associations and connections! These would be very well for the immediate, as we have given, but IMMEDIATE connections may be made with the other interests - by the latter part of the present month!
14. (Q) Would it be best to try to locate in barrel business alone? (A) You have asked for that activity which would be best, and we have already indicated the greater! The barrel business may be very satisfactory for the time being, but that which is IN the barrel - and the barrel also - will last much longer!
15. (Q) Is there anyone else besides [335] you would advise me to contact? (A) Any of those that are to become the national distillers, but in that we have given are the better associations; for CONNECTIONS have already been established!
16. (Q) Since having six years experience in dress business without any material gain, would it be best to start in dress business again? (A) As we have indicated regarding the dress business, this may be made a success eventually in the activities of the body. But, as we find, for the less investment, for the greater returns, for the greater satisfaction and with fewer headaches, the other line would be better. Turn from dry to wet goods!
17. (Q) Could Mr. Lewis of Washington help towards securing shoe contracts from the government? (A) As we find, and as we have indicated regarding Lewis, sometimes he's a help and sometimes he's a hindrance. The better way or manner is for those that would make bids for same to interview directly the departments, or quartermaster departments, wherein and through which offices are bids are received; and to take the orders or to make the bids through the regular channels, rather than through the attempt to depend upon individuals outside of such realms to make the proper associations or connections. This might be very well done.
18. (Q) Should I attempt to secure this contract? (A) It would not be amiss! As we find, an interview would not be amiss or out of the question in the present. There have been associations or connections, or friendships of [257] with [4830], who was in the quartermaster Division - and in the direct line.
417-6 Page 4
Through [417] meeting directly with [4830] there may be pointed out that channel through which this may be made in its direct way and manner. It would be very well to go direct through such a channel.
19. (Q) Since my shoe business at the store in ..., [L.I.] has been falling behind, is it advisable to sell it? (A) When other associations or connections are made, so that there is not felt by self that there is not the opportunity or the chance for SOME reaction or SOME associations in business. For, the mental attitude is as much in an individual's activity as the direct or the moral activity. Hence, when making other associations or connections, it would be well to dispose of same; especially when considering the wet goods.
20. (Q) Should I go in business with Mike Gans in the wet goods? (A) Very good connection, but not as good; though it may be combined with the body's efforts in association with the larger distributors.
21. (Q) What can be done to effect some material gains at the store in ..., [L.I.]? (A) Under the present situations and general conditions, this offers a real problem. As we find, if sufficient TIME were given there might be worked out - with some of the connections with the larger individuals or groups where there is the use of a portion of the individual pay given in connection or with associations with other businesses - that which would make for a regular or a general income. In the present situations, however, as we find, the only way would be in making for a bid through the general or specific advertising portion of same.
22. (Q) Will [257] be of any assistance to me in any of his propositions, or am I wasting my time by waiting around in his office? (A) He should be of material assistance. But, as we find, if there are the efforts made in the direction that we have given, soon there should be such an activity on the part of the body [417] as to overshadow any wasting of time or being around any office except that connections are being made with!
23. (Q) As I am under a heavy financial overhead, would the Forces advise me of an investment to bring a quick turnover? (A) Any of the speculative stock, or the activities that may be made in such operations, are very questionable at the present time. After the fifteenth of this present month and for a few days, or ten days thereafter, there will be some quick changes in all forms of transposition, or in the
417-6 Page 5
telegraph and radio lines, especially those associated, but THESE are still VERY questionable. If there is sufficient activity in the re-opening of the banks that have been under consideration, there will also be some changes or activities in certain of the Van Swergen lines of railroads; yet THESE still are questions, and should be considered closer to the periods. But these are the ones for the PRESENT in which there appears to be the most change, from the present condition.
24. (Q) Any one in particular? (A) In the telegraph lines, American Tel. or the Radio (combination of same). In the railroads, C & O.
25. (Q) Should I follow the playing of horse racing, would it be profitable? (A) No. Unless there is - This is as we have given from the first: The situation that exists in most every quarter in horse racing is much as that in many another sport. There are too much FIXIN'S, for those that are not on the inside. And THEN, if one is on the inside, it's hard to satisfy one's own conscience.
26. (Q) Is the Lawton system for the playing of horse racing a good system to follow? (A) As good as any, when you take into consideration systems of the kind. The better system, if one is to be chosen, would be outside of or irrespective of considering the general conditions that exist; which is what may be termed the numerological system. That is, when the owners or the runners of such an entry and the numbers used by the riders conform, you can bet on that horse! Five times out of eight it will win; the other three it won't! As to which will be the three and which will be the five, that is STILL just guessing - as it would be in horse racing!
27. (Q) Would it be advisable to buy California wine for speculation? (A) Be fine! Be fine wine!
28. (Q) How much a case should be paid? (A) This depends, of course, upon the age and upon the manufacture; or the one - or that - BACK of the manufacture of it!
417-6 Page 6
But considering the activities in the present about the board, what is ordinarily asked in the present for the second-year vintage.
29. (Q) Do I know enough about this business to go into it? (A) You know enough about it, and you'll soon learn more!
30. (Q) What horses, jockeys or colors, would be advisable to play at Laurel, Maryland, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week? (A) That would be hard to give. There are so many variations. Three, seven and five will be the greater number of winners in the coming week.
31. (Q) Is there any other advice for the body at this time? (A) As to the material things sought, seek out those possibilities in the lines that we have presented at this time. For, as we find, with the abilities of the body - and the whole of the directing in a manner that is in keeping with the policies of the body in relations to its fellow man, these - in eighteen months to two years - would make the body independent financially!
