Time of Reading 11:35 to 11:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., Tenn. (Physical Suggestion)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.
2. As we find, while improvements have been wonderful, there are at present some discouragements; with the rise of temperature that comes from congestion and the tendency for the coughing to be increased, with pains through the chest and the area in the left lung that has shown the tubercle being encased - FROM this irritation - now shows activity.
3. While this is only a setback, there must be greater precautions taken as to taking cold and going or sitting in drafts, or going about places where there are drafts without the head being properly covered, and open air at night that is not so well. Not that there is not to be constant amount of air in the sleeping quarters or sleeping apartment, but that this shall not blow directly on the body. The better way to ventilate the room would be to have an opening at the lower portion or near the floor and at the upper portion of the room on the opposite side, or near so. This will make for better ventilation and will prevent the draft being ON the body while sleeping.
4. As to the changes we find necessary in the present:
5. Heat up more the brandy and change the quantity you have here, and breathe DEEPER into the lungs, see?
6. Have prepared again the inhalant [as in 418-1] that is to act as the antiseptic that will prevent the reaction or the infection producing irritation in the throat and lungs. Breathe this, when taken, DEEP ENOUGH to go deep into the lungs, as WELL as the fumes from the brandy, see?
7. We would also prepare to take at times, when there is the tendency for the coughing or for too much of the refuses or spittle coming up (while it is well for this to be thrown off, we do not want to IRRITATE by straining; hence this would be taken internally, see?):
8. To 4 ounces of compound SIMPLE syrup (this means simple syrup to which sufficient quantity of alcohol is added to
418-3 Page 2
preserve same), add: Oil of Eucalyptus.............8 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp.........4 minims, Tincture of Benzoin..........15 minims, Rectified Creosote............4 minims.
9. Well that this be shaken together before the does is taken, which would be half a teaspoonful at the dose, see? This will allay the irritation and will not make for congestion in any portion of the system.
10. Follow the diet very carefully; that is, the milk, the egg and brandy or spirits frumenti. All of these are well, and it would be preferable to use the spirits frumenti THAN the beer in the present (that is, the character that has been used is not so good).
11. We would take plenty of the beef juice, small quantities at the time - but keep this near.
12. Not necessary for the body to remain in bed, if it is careful about drafts as we have indicated; for the strength does not gain so well as is necessary to build resistance in the system, when the body is inactive.
13. Do not be alarmed unless the temperature goes ABOVE a hundred, for there must be kept alive all the vitamins in the system.
14. Occasionally, once or twice a week, if there is not the activity of the bowels as they should, eat a cake of yeast!
15. Ready for questions.
