Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Bodies & enquiring minds, who seek information, advice and guidance as to their material affairs and mental well-being. Questions.)
1. EC: Yes, we have the bodies, the enquiring minds, [426] - [257]; these individually we have had before.
2. As for their physical well-being, there might be given that which would be helpful to each in and regarding their physical well-being or welfare.
3. The abuses of the digestive systems do not make for the better reactions through the circulation and the eliminations of their bodies. Each in their own manner abuse these factors in their better well-being. The warning should be sufficient.
4. Ready for questions.
5. (Q) Please advise [257] what he should submit as a plan to Bronfman Bros. that will meet their needs and desires and also fit into plans of Wanzer and Paine for their new liquor corporation. (A) There has been considered the various requirements for the sale, the supply, the distribution. Hence the plan should be in accord with the requirements and needs of the one that fit with the abilities of the other, to supply in that particular field. Inasmuch as there will be exceeding amount of such products at a particular season in the present, a package or seasonal package would be well to consider among those specifications of the presenting of that necessary.
6. (Q) How best to approach the meeting of the two groups to make both anxious to do business? (A) As given, on the one hand there are the requirements and on the other the abilities to supply that which will meet the needs; or abilities on the one and the needs on the other of itself would make the most anxious situation.
426-3 Page 2
For, when there becomes the questioning of the abilities to supply, or the questioning of the abilities for the product to meet a certain standard, there are the differentiations and discussions that do not make for the position to be as satisfactory; if their abilities and needs are considered without the stretching or without the qualifying in many varied directions from the product and that needed in distribution.
7. (Q) What should [426] do to make the group want to work together? (A) Rather that there are the abilities of the corporations in all of the interests concerned, which is a necessary factor in deciding any such association.
8. (Q) What is [257]'s next move, step by step, to bring a closing? (A) As just outlined. Not how much alteration from the producer will be necessary, not that there are the needs for same, but that the product will meet every requirement for those that are to act in the capacity of the handling. Then it becomes necessary in the first steps for [257] to know what the requirements are on the one hand and the abilities to supply those on the other. Then this will become a much easier proposition, especially when there is that confidence created by the assurance by those in a position to know the whole situation as a unit.
9. (Q) What basis of remuneration should [257] arrange and with which group? (A) It should, in its best interest, be with both; or with either that present their needs or their product. And in that case they may be made to meet the needs or the demands in every situation.
10. (Q) Is there any place that [257] could serve in the future organization of either group and where would it be best advantage to them and to him? (A) This of necessity would depend upon how well the situations in the present would be handled. But the situation, as we find, would present itself as being closer associated with the distribution.
11. (Q) How will the situation come out with W. J. Sellers in regard to brokerage officer? [Mr. [426]'s ques.] (A) As we view, the situation has in the main been already determined and only awaits the activity of some individual or individuals who are to be interested in same. Hence should, with the assurance that these associations are to be completed, be carried through to a successful termination or operation. For, the operation is to make the success rather than the beginnings, as to which it is adhering to in the present.
12. (Q) Is Mr. Sellers honest?
426-3 Page 3
(A) That would be determined especially upon from what angle, or what is determined as a basis for judgement of honesty. So far as that kept in such an association or situation concerned in the brokerage organization, it can and should be as to whether Sellers or anyone that might be over honest, set in such a way that this would not be a determining factor as much as the ABILITIES of Sellers in handling the general situation. In the whole, yes, honest.
13. (Q) How will the artichoke business come out? (A) As the conditions change, or as the situations are altered that will make for the abilities of the product to be determined as to its place, its value in the needs and requirements of individuals, this should work to a degree that it would be most satisfactory. Hence, as we see, will require some little time; one and a half to two years, before an excess or great amounts of returns might be expected. From then on, wonderful!
14. (Q) How will the Foreign Vintage business come out with Wanzer and Senior? [J. H. Senior] (A) If these conditions (that is, the import) are of such an operation as not defeating but as to lessening those duties, be wonderful! And, as we find, will meet a situation that is needed, and be more needed as the changes come about.
15. (Q) Will Mr. [426] have any trouble getting the account? (A) No.
16. (Q) How will the Mycalex business come out? (A) If the product is to be placed in sufficient quantities that will meet the needs and requirements of the varied situations that are needing, and are going to need, a whole lot more, should be wonderful.
17. (Q) Where would be the greatest outlet for Mycalex? (A) To be sure, through those various organizations that use the products in their lines and in their connections. In establishing especially some of the larger products that will be not only government presented but government used. But the sale goes to the organizations that supply or build same!
18. (Q) How is the London office of Foreign Advertising coming out? (A) With the changes in the connections in other countries, and the variation in the exchange that is imminent with the changing situations, for a short period will be very much disturbed, but by the first of the coming year all of these conditions will gradually adjust themselves and make for a very much more satisfactory situation in all foreign associations and connections.
426-3 Page 4
For, changes are imminent in the standards of all countries; yet the London or English associations must, without wrecking many - not dominate, but lead. Hence these should be a much better connection, business association or relation, in every field of activity, through the London office or association.
19. (Q) Will I, [426], be able to close Mycalex deal now pending with Continental Diamond Fibre Co. on a proper basis? (A) If these are made in almost any connection, so it is a profitable connection (which means the abilities for supplying certain portions for the needs of the conditions that are facing the situation), well and good. And, as we find, if he handles it himself, he will make it - Mr. [426].
20. (Q) What is the future possibility of Foreign Advertising Co.? (A) This is a very large order, or very large question, for it involves - of course - much of not only the political and economic conditions in each or many of the foreign organizations or countries; but, as indicated, as we find, in three months - unless there are some outbreaks that are not in the making just now - all of the associations and connections will be much better. For, by that time (and some before), connections will be established to make for much better arrangements in the handling of such connections in those countries.
21. (Q) Will [257]'s factory, which he represents, at Cleveland, Klausner Cooperage Co., 5207 Grant St., ship the balance of barrels to meet Walter Croft of Croft Brewing Co., Boston, to complete satisfaction? (A) Not complete satisfaction, for - as we find - it must be divided as to material situations, yet will be delivered and eventually made satisfactory.
22. (Q) Will this next car be satisfactory? (A) Satisfactory.
23. (Q) Is there anything to be done by [257] at the present time to see that the barrels will be shipped properly? (A) There's no use of entangling self; nor, of course, sitting still; but when material troubles arise people dislike interference from the outside, other than their own interests; yet we would not remain entirely quiet on the situation. Merely keep - not nagging, but - the situation in an ACTIVE way and manner.
24. (Q) Considering barrel business and its future, and the liquor business owned or started by Foreign Vintages, Inc., what course should [257] pursue for his future success in business? (A) In business in this direction, to be sure, is
426-3 Page 5
indicated. As we find, there can be an association between the barrel interest and the vintage interest so worked out by [257] as to make a very satisfactory arrangement. While this should not be the whole business, and yet one with divided interests usually loses the best of each. But it's not a very good question, along with conditions - but we would not leave it out entirely. There should be rather such a connection that has been indicated. If [257] is to consider the interests in this direction, through the Sugar interests. For, these must all eventually come; whether they are vintages in Africa or America, they must come to THAT interest.
25. (Q) What can [426] and [257] do to be of mutual help to one another in 1934? (A) If they will set themselves on an equitable basis and not scrap with each other, they may help each other very much; by keeping their interests in such a way and manner as when necessary for the confidence or impulse to push over or to close a deal, the other may be an aid to the other. Is this understood? It should be understood by each!
26. We are through for the present.
