Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.
2. As we find, there is a recurrence - and in a much more severe form - of some of those disturbances that we have given information concerning before.
3. While in many ways and manners the body is very good in the physical reactions, there is the lack of the proper drainages through those portions especially of the jejunum - for we find the walls of same have at times become very thin. And they have become thin owing to the lack of those proper reactions through same, and from the amount of poisons that escape as it were through these portions of the body there is the attempt of the circulatory system to eliminate what should be as drosses through the system.
4. Hence a disturbed circulation and the effect of great irritation under the cuticle or skin. Seldom except when scratched very hard, or when tissue is broken, does it produce other than red irritating conditions.
5. Not that as is sometimes called names that are the effect of same more on the head and on the neck, as splotches and blotches. This is more upon the extremities, more upon portions of the torso; but extremities especially - for here the circulation slows somewhat and allows in the superficial circulation this disturbance and this activity.
6. These as we find are the greater disturbing conditions at the present.
7. As we find, in the elimination of this, first we must be very careful - as the body is in part - of the diet.
8. But do not have those combinations where there are too great quantities of any alcoholic-producing foods. Not referring to alcohol itself so much, for as we find RED WINE would be excellent if taken as a meal with black or sour bread, in the evenings or late afternoon. But refrain from combinations of starches, as white bread, potatoes, spaghetti, macaroni, or those things where there are great excesses of starch WITH sugars. These produce a
437-7 Page 2
fermentation that is an aggravation to the conditions.
9. As we find, then, we would be mindful of these.
10. Also we would begin taking, two to three times a day, small quantities of Pure Olive Oil. Do not take spoonsful, but two, three, four times a day take a sip, or half a teaspoonful.
11. And two, three, four times a day - but not at the same time with the Oil - take Pure Yellow Saffron Tea. The activity of these properties upon the gastrointestinal system will be to create an effluvium in the very activity of the mucus membranes through the flow of the lymph to aid in not only healing but in giving texture and strength especially to those portions of the alimentary canal that are of the disturbing nature. Make a Saffron Tea, you see. The proportions would be about a teaspoonful of the Yellow Saffron (American Saffron, not necessarily Spanish) to six ounces of water; this a heaping teaspoonful. Let this steep. It is necessary that this be kept cool. And take about an ounce of it, or a tablespoonful of it, two to three times a day.
12. We would find, too, that the adjustments osteopathically in the upper dorsal and through the cervical area, that set up better drainages for the duodenum and lower portions of the stomach, will be helpful; that prevents foods from lying too long in the lower portion of the stomach and being an acid as they pass into the jejunum. While we pass through an acid condition in a portion of the lower portion of the stomach that is necessary for assimilation, for this to be acid in the upper portions of the jejunum then produces these strains.
13. Also we find that to dust on irritated portions a powder that carries Balsam of Tolu will be most helpful. The Stearate of Zinc with Balsam.
14. This will be aiding then in the removal of the causes, the removal of the effects, and should bring about the nearer normal conditions of the body.
15. Then if those reactions are carried on as indicated, we would find these most helpful.
16. If there is the continued irritation on extremities, make a weak solution of acetanilide water; about ten grains of acetanilide to an ounce of distilled water. Rub this on. It will irritate for a little bit but will gradually dry and relieve and drive the condition in, and yet prevent reinfection from the tendency of the poisons eliminated through the pores of the body.
17. Ready for questions.
18. (Q) Are the osteopathic treatments given correctly?
437-7 Page 3
(A) These are very good, but we would stimulate more for DRAINAGES in the upper dorsal and portion of the cervical area. As has just been indicated, stimulate those plexus that assist in EMPTYING the lower portion of the stomach, you see; those in the upper dorsal - while those from the lower cervical area may stimulate the activity of the contraction to the duodenum AND an activity of the stomach itself.
19. (Q) What is the primary lesion involved in this case? (A) As has been indicated, those that may EMPTY the stomach - or the 2nd and 3rd DORSAL plexus.
20. (Q) Does this lesion exist in all cases of winter itch? (A) This is not necessarily true, but depends as much - as we have indicated - upon the diets of the body, and how there is the coordination between the superficial and the deeper circulation.
21. (Q) Why is the itching more acute during the night and day? (A) The variation in the circulation in activity and in that period when the body attempts to adjust itself for rest. The indication that it is a superficial circulation disturbance as produced by poisons being eliminated through the pores of the body that SHOULD be eliminated through the alimentary canal and other eliminating channels.
22. (Q) Has the wool mattress anything to do with the itching? or chairs, or anything of the nature in his surroundings? (A) This has little or nothing to do; though the very felt or the OUTER portions of same may at times - if in contact with the body - produce a tendency; as would dust to the nasal passages - much in that way and manner. Nothing to do with the CAUSES; may be with the effects produced at this time, but has little or nothing to do with the conditions.
23. (Q) Was the more restful sleep last night due to effect of osteopathic treatment begun? (A) This due to the effect of the circulation being changed by same, yes.
24. (Q) Will the sun light treatment help the body any? (A) We would not give too much of the sun light treatment until there is a tendency for that which is causing the condition to be relieved; for then we tend to pull the circulation to the very portions that should be set in motion in other directions! We wouldn't advise this in the present.
25. (Q) Has the condition anything to do with his nerves, or vice versa? (A) Has MUCH to do with his nerves! For an irritation of this nature produces quick, jerkiness and supersensitiveness to the reactions of the whole body.
437-7 Page 4
This is a strain upon the nerves, rather than the nerves causing this strain. The basic conditions are as we have indicated; too great an acidity in system in the jejunum.
26. (Q) Will this specific treatment relieve the cause, outside of changing climate? (A) It will relieve the cause, if those suggestions are followed and there is an adherence to diets.
27. (Q) Please outline correct diet. (A) As has been indicated, beware of those things in combintion that make for tendencies in such directions; and we will find this is much better under the circumstances for the body then attempting to say eat this of morning and this at noon, don't eat that or don't eat the other! Know that it is rather the combinations. Red wine in the evening or afternoon is well. Alcohol in other forms, as hard rum, NOT so well. Light wines are very good. Beer NOT good.
28. (Q) What is meant by Red wine? (A) Means RED wine! Not white wine, not sour wine; not that that is too sweet but any of those that are in the nature of adding to the body the effect of grape sugar. There is a variation, to be sure, in the character of sugars and the necessary forces and influences of that carried on in the system in producing assimilation. Foods must ferment, naturally, from acid, the action of acid and alkalin. These passing into the duodenum, especially, become then certain characters of sugars; as produced by the activity of the pancreas juices upon the effect of juices from the liver and the spleen, in digestive forces. Then the addition of Red wine, which is carrying more of a tartaric effect upon the active forces of the body, is correct; while those that are sour or that draw out from the system a reaction upon the hydrochlorics become detrimental.
