Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [446], present in this room.
2. As to the physical forces, we find in many respects there are very good conditions; yet there are the disorders respecting the eliminations and the activities of organs that affect the eliminations and the disturbances in the activities of these that we find are not in a normal way or manner of functioning.
3. These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [446] we are speaking of, present in this room:
4. In the BLOOD SUPPLY we find there are the indications of the disturbances in the liver and the spleen, of an inactivity in a normal manner, and the glands that are affected by the secretions from the activity of the liver in its functioning are also disturbed. This makes for those conditions that supply in the blood stream that which prevents from being sufficient numbers in the red blood cells, and an activity in the leucocyte and the white blood as to make for changes as to their numbers; at times producing sufficient for coagulation, at others insufficient.
5. Hence the metabolism and the katabolism of the system are disturbed sympathetically, and not an organic or heart action.
6. The NERVE SYSTEMS of the body are, as we find, in a manner contributory to these organic disturbances or functional disturbance of the organs as indicated in the Blood Supply. While there are not such great subluxations in the dorsal areas, there ARE impingements in the areas that produce the lack of proper impulse from the activities of the sympathetic system, particularly. Hence the tendency is for the circulation to be deep rather than a great deal of superficial circulation. This produces periods of hot and
446-1 Page 2
cold flushes in portions of the system, and at times the extremities show poor circulation. Also at times across the brachial area and the lower lumbar area, as we find, there is a heaviness; not an activity so much as a heaviness. This is from the circulation and improper impulse to the organs of the circulatory system in its distribution of new supply of circulation in the body to portions of the system.
7. These, to be sure, are reflexes; not causes, and with corrections will make for a more consciousness of the disturbance for a time; and bring about a normal force respecting this character of disturbance in this body.
8. As to the ORGANS themselves; the head activities are very good, in the manner of disseminating impulse from brain or sensory reaction; though occasionally we may find the organs of the sensory system disturbed through the reflex forces in the circulation, as has been indicated from the superficial portion. Not from the internal so much, yet these make for fullnesses in the lymph or soft tissue circulation.
9. Throat, bronchi, lungs, larynx are very good when we consider the character of the disturbances in organs of secretion and excretion. Yet the oxidization of the blood supply through the lungs is not always complete.
10. Heart action, as indicated, is not normal in pulsation or respiration at all times. The greater part, yes. Not at all times, but it is a reflex and not a cause.
11. The digestive area is disturbed with the activities of the assimilations and excretions and secretions, that are produced in the system for the activity upon that which is to be digested or assimilated; though, with the correction of the disturbances in the organs in their functionings, we will find that these will disappear.
12. As to the activity of the spleen, the kidneys, as related to the action of the hepatic circulation through the liver area, we will find that this is what may be termed a cold or slow circulation, produced by the inactivity in the proper manner of the coordination of these organs in their relationships one to another in their functioning.
13. Then, in meeting the needs of the conditions, as we find, the better would be in making such corrections osteopathically, that prevent the proper coordination between the sympathetic and cerebrospinal system. And in relieving these pressures that exist in the 8th and 9th dorsal center, as tautness in the 1st and 2nd dorsal and throughout the cervical area (for these are reflexes in the cervical reaction), we would stimulate - with electrical forces - the sympathetic circulation from the activity of the sympathetic nervous system; or the superficial
446-1 Page 3
circulation. And we will bring the better normal conditions for the body.
14. As to the matter of diet, the foods have been watched in many ways and manners. These have been to aid in the activities of the system. Hence, as changes are created by alterations in the pressures in the cerebrospinal areas that affect the organs specific that are disturbed, and the general system throughout the eliminating or alimentary canal, we will find that it would be necessary to alter these somewhat; but these we would give rather through those that would be making the corrections, for these should coordinate with the conditions created in system.
15. Ready for questions.
16. (Q) How many and how often should the osteopathic treatments be taken? (A) Twice a week. One of these would be a general treatment and one a corrective treatment.
17. (Q) What type of electrical appliance should be used, and how often? (A) The violet ray. This the body may apply to self, or have applied to self at home; for it should be given, and will be better for the stimulations to the system through this be given each evening for three to fifteen minutes, over the cerebrospinal system and, specifically, in the locomotory centers, the brachial centers, and those tautnesses that occur occasionally in the head and neck.
18. (Q) Do we understand that the diet should be suggested by the osteopath in connection with the treatments to be taken? (A) As indicated, as CHANGES are brought about, there will be necessary changes in the diet. Hence these should be indicated by the one making the corrections.
19. (Q) What osteopath would you recommend in New York? (A) There are many. We would rather that those activities would be carried that are used by one in sympathy with that which may be accomplished through the corrections in such an information. As we would find, such a sympathetic reaction may be found in Dobbins; or Daly [?].
20. (Q) Would Dr. Fechtig of Madison Square Hotel be in sympathy? [Louis R. Fechtig, D.O.?] (A) Yes, with some explanation - and some show of just what it is all about. These that we have suggested have shown their interest; hence the variation.
21. (Q) Should any light treatments be continued for this body? (A) The character of light makes a vast difference in that produced in the circulation. A sun light is not as well. It has been used, and makes for congestion in certain portions of the hypogastrics and pneumogastrics, producing a
446-1 Page 4
tendency for heaviness in portions of the system; dullness to some other portions. Hence, as indicated by the length of period, we are varying from three to fifteen minutes - a vast difference in the effect that is created in the superficial circulation, see? Neither does the plain violet ray become as penetrating, and the superficial needs the stimulation - not the penetrating area, until the reflexes are more in accord by the corrections in the cerebrospinal. Do these, and we will find - as outlined - better conditions for the body. The VIOLET ray would be used; NOT the ultra-violet. Each day, from three to fifteen minutes along the cerebrospinal system and specifically in the lumbar or in the locomotory area (the 4th and 3rd lumbars) and in the brachial area (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th dorsal area), and in the cervical area - most over all of these; the specific centers as indicated, but move over the whole of the area, to be sure.
