Time of Reading 11:20 to 11:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. (Entity; his studies in Electrical Engineering and contemplated life work in engineering. You will advise him regarding the selection of his course, and work during the coming summer, leading toward definite connections for a job after graduation. Ques.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind; the entity's activity in the material experiences; the studies, the associations in the present.

2. In considering the choice, or the choosing of the activities, as we find there has been given as to the character or the nature through which the greater development or greater advancement might be made - as viewed from here. Yet the choice, to be sure, is to be made by the entity - the mental self.

3. There is oft the inclination for individuals, or an entity, to allow circumstance - or the thought of the moment - to curtail or to hinder in making that eventual success in or toward that purpose for which it is best adapted as viewed from a whole. This may be well, or it may at times be just the necessary incentive for the activity of the individual toward that purpose - and for the showing or manifesting of the individuality and its purpose in such directions.

4. As to the choosing in the present environ, then: We find the activities should be rather with and in consideration of the guidances of those with whom the entity or the body is making its studies. That is, that phase of the activity which is necessary for the insuring of a connection with organizations or corporations that are ever in need of those who may give activities in the direction of such a service. These would be followed then along the lines of the instructors in such a school or study during the coming semester; and the natural choice in the latter portion of the studies or the senior year.

5. This then would insure that the entity would have a place

of employment with the closing of the activities in the school.

6. In the consideration of what is to be done, as to its activities then during the coming summer: Let the application be with those that are in the associated or affiliated activities; such as the practical application in telephone, or electric line service, or the supervising or working with or helper with stations where there are the activities that are a portion of the entity's studies in this coming semester - so that there may be the practical application of same.

7. As either in power plants, transformer divisions or the like.

8. There are, of course, two main channels: The General Electric organization, with its many phases of activity; or the Alabama Power with its many coordinated offices; or the telephone.

9. Through either or any of these, connections may be made.

10. Ready for questions.

11. (Q) In my senior year I will have the opportunity to select an individual project devoted to problems in such as communications, illumination, radio television, transmission of power, etc. What type of project would you advise considering an opportunity for the development of my talents to the highest possible degree? (A) As has been indicated, the electro-chemistry would be the greater, as we have found; but these activities are not a portion of those indicated here. Then, the radio or television division of the activities would be the greater. Centralize or localize then upon these - until there is given the opportunity for better self-expression.

12. (Q) Would it be wise to take math analysis as given under Professor Seeley in my senior year? (A) Very well.

13. (Q) Any other suggestions on selection of courses and direction of study? (A) As has been indicated, be guided by those with whom you have studied and do study; keeping in mind the channels or opportunities for the activities in conjunction with the studies and in the places that will be open by affiliations with the courses taken, and their associations.

14. (Q) Where and what type of summer work should I seek? (A) As indicated, either through the telephone or with the Alabama Power or General Electric - in any of their

487-21 Page 3

affiliated associations or activities.

15. (Q) Would it be wise to try to get work with a company involving electrical work or seek a more general activity? (A) As we find, and as indicated, that which is in keeping with the line of thought - in a PRACTICAL application of same - would be much preferable; and would be in keeping with the fitting of self for practical application of those tenets and lessons that have been gained.

16. (Q) Should I begin to make connections with some large company with possibility of future connection after graduation? (A) As has been indicated, these are the better channels and ways and means - to be guided by the affiliated activities of the school itself with organizations, associations and corporations.

17. (Q) Would it be wise for me to attempt a graduate course at M.I.T. with work in electro-chemistry? (A) As indicated, this may be a better course in a year, two years after graduation than immediate; for then the self has become FITTED for the practical applications - and it allows the opportunity for SELF expression, and for self to know in what direction the choices are to be made.

18. We are through for the present. Copy to Self " " File
