Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time.
1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [487], present in this room. Considering his induction into military service, and the general as well as specific conditions that may result, you will advise him at this time as to a course of procedure which will give opportunity for the greatest service, as well as his mental, physical and spiritual development. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [487], - and those conditions specific and general as confront the body, with the induction into the army.
3. When there is considered the abilities, the development, the aspirations and hopes - much is to be taken into consideration at such times.
4. To be sure, there is to be considered that phase of nationalism that is to be a part of the entity's experience, in the general as well as in specific ways and manners.
5. In this direction there are the needs for many in the field of service that may be a part of this entity's experience, if there is the right choosing and if there are the activities as to bring about those connections and affiliations.
6. Of course, there should be the seeking for expression by the entity in those fields in which there has been the personal application; and not merely a general course of training. Seek rather for the activity in the camp rather than in coast artillery or in any offensive points. For, in activities pertaining to shipbuilding or general camp equipment - with the general laying out, as well as the estimating of costs in equipment - the entity may find, in these fields, the greater outlet, greater appreciation of the abilities, and the better individuals as specific groups with which to work.
7. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) Considering my college training in engineering and year of experience with the [... Power Co.] would it be wise to attempt to secure a commission or reserve commission in any branch of the service - army, navy, air, marines, etc., - if so, in which one? (A) As we have indicated, seek activity in the engineering field in and about camps where those are stationed that are inducted into the service; or in shipbuilding, or the repairing portions of activity.
9. (Q) Should a commission or reserve commission be sought, or either? (A) This should be rather the result of the activities than the seeking beforehand; unless there is the desire to spend some three to six years in such service.
10. (Q) If questioned as to my choice of activities, which of the following should I apply for, or mention any other particular type of activity that would be best for me: Field artillery, coast artillery, engineering corp, signal corp, medical corp, infantry, cavalry, mechanized divisions, air corp (ground force), etc.? (A) As we find, and as indicated - the electrical engineering corp; not an engineering corp as of field service, see? but rather that as of port, camp or the like.
11. (Q) When and how should this type of work be sought? (A) Make the application for same at the time of induction, and continue to seek towards such.
12. (Q) If I have any choice of stations, where should I elect to be sent? (A) That would better come when there are the changes made from the activities. For - if those suggestions here indicated are followed - we find that there will be a period of training. In fact, there will be a period in which the entity would become an instructor. Thus there will be changes from one camp to another.
13. (Q) Should any letters, or recommendations, be secured from individuals? Would these be of help? (A) It had best be indicated on the application as to the qualifications for the specific active service, and the willingness to supply recommendations - or for the Department to obtain same directly from school (or instructor there) as well as from the divisions or departments in which the entity has been active for the past year. There is a dearth in the service of those who are equipped to ESTIMATE costs and to INDICATE types of men for actual activities in service. For, remember - there's much electrical force used in all such camps.

14. (Q) Considering the possibility of a long duration of the defense program, and my engineering training, would it be well for me - after my induction - to apply for any training course in the army, looking toward a commission or reserve commission? (A) Through the channel and way indicated, as we find, would be the safer and better use of the abilities; and the application of same in service. Do not be afraid to indicate the abilities, in the application - as to all departments in which the body has qualified self; especially in the estimating department - for this should lead to the entity being able to qualify as a purchasing agent, as well as an instructor in service, that would carry the body far.
15. (Q) Please give any other advice or guidance that may be helpful at this time. (A) First, as indicated - know the purposes of self and of its relationships to its fellow man, as a manifestation of its service to its Maker. Keep close to the spiritual guidance, ever. Depart not from same. Seek in those channels indicated - either in the shipbuilding or in the camp organizations - for the electrical ESTIMATING, and the aiding of others in that department through teaching.
