1. GC: You will have before you the entity, [487], present in this room. Considering the information given him through this channel April 11, 1941, his attempts to follow these suggestions; the refusal of the government to grant his company's request for a discharge; his interview with his officers regarding the Signal Corp; and considering also all that may be given at this time regarding the trend of events which may influence him, you will advise this entity regarding the questions which he now submits:

2. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind of the entity, [487]; and the conditions which surround the body in the present.

3. Considering first the information that has been indicated through these channels - approach those with whom the entity has conversed as respecting special training. Choose the ELECTRICAL engineering in the constructive influences, NOT the destructive; the defensive and not of the offensive nature.

4. Ready for questions.

5. (Q) Is there anything else that my company or I can do to secure my discharge from the army? (A) This would bring about those attempts to override that expression made, some dissensions, and a hardship for self - if it were now undertaken; unless there ARE re-considerations by the acts of the Company asking the Government, (disregarding name) that there be released those for active service in the Company channels. THEN the Company might receive the request as to WHICH of its men, and thus the entity would have an opportunity. But it must NOT be for individual, until individuals are to be named by Company.

6. (Q) Considering my attitude and abilities, which of the following would be best for me: (a) remain in my present

battery; (b) seek a commission in the signal corp; (c) follow some other procedure which may be recommended now through this channel? (A) WE would seek through those channels as indicated, and seek for commission in Signal Corp.

7. (Q) Is there anything that I should do besides seeking through regular application channels? (A) There should be seeking through the regular application channels, but there may be contacts - that have been made in other quarters - that may bring greater consideration, by requests from those in other quarters; at the same time seeking through regular channels.

8. (Q) Specifically what other quarters are referred to? (A) Where there have been those requests to consider that department, where there are those in the position to consider transfers or advancements in other channels.

9. (Q) Can any names be given? We don't quite understand to whom I should go. (A) Those who have spoken to the entity!

10. (Q) Should I do this now or when maneuvers have been completed? (A) Make known to those in authority that you are ready for that consideration now.

11. (Q) If I have the opportunity of specializing in any type of work in the signal corp., what should I undertake? (A) Either the communications or that as related to signaling or sighting (siting?). [See 8/7/43 verification under 487-17 Reports.]

12. (Q) Are there any individuals whom I should contact who would help in securing this opportunity for advancement? (A) These had best go through the regular channels, but use each contact made - rather than seeking to make contacts that do not come in the regular order.

13. (Q) Do you refer to the officers who recently interviewed me at Meade? (A) Those who have spoken to the entity regarding training, schooling, choosing branches of service.

14. (Q) Please explain the following passage from reading of April 11, 1941: "That would be better come when there are the changes made from the activities... For, if those suggestions here indicated are followed, we find that there will be a period of training. In fact, there will be a period in which the entity would become an instructor. Thus there will be changes from one camp to another..." (A) These, as we find, are conditions that are in prospect in the present, see? These are the periods, then, during the training, the schooling, when these varied developments will develop in the experience. If these is the opportunity to

remain as the instructor, do so. If there is the opportunity even for commissions in preference to instruction, choose instruction. For, while not in monetary ways or in fame, this would give greater opportunities for broader service and more personal security.

15. (Q) Please explain in detail what the following from the April 11, 1941 reading meant: "As we have indicated, seek activity in the engineering fields in and about camps where those are stationed that are inducted into the service; for in shipbuilding, or the repairing portions of activity." (A) These again are periods as may become a part of this experience in the training, see; for the chances for commissions and the various phases of service will gradually grow out of conditions, as greater stresses ensue. There will be those needed still for the training service, see; those inducted into a portion of engineering activity in ALL its phases - field, harbor, camp, coast, post, outposts and the like. These STILL may offer opportunities for the entity to train inductees into this, with a three month's activity in the schooling or training.

16. (Q) Is the application in Signal Corp following this suggestion, or are there other steps which I should take? (A) In the Signal Corp is the first step. There will be changes, even as the training develops, and opportunities for same. For, there will come more and more severity throughout the land. Do not accept ANY of those trainings where there would be the leaving of the mainland.

17. (Q) In entering the Signal Corp training, as I have been told, it is necessary to sign for active duty a year after the training is over, which may send me to any part of the world. Please advise. (A) That can be limited to the continental U. S. A. alone, if it is specified in the application made; and would be accepted under the circumstances in the present.

18. (Q) What could I do regarding the shipbuilding connection now? (A) Only that as would pertain to the actual work in electrical wiring and the like, which may be a part of the training in the Signal - which may eventually, if there is the choice, be a part of the selected service.

19. (Q) Is there anything that I can do to better follow the suggestions given in my reading? (A) Be upright, straightforward, doing the duty ever; relying on the Right to carry through.
