1. HLC: You will have before you the entity known as [489], present in this room, and her activities in the field of writing. You will give her such counsel and guidance as she may need at this time in developing her talents in this direction, and in making the proper connections for outlets for her work. You will also consider other mental and material affairs, and answer the questions she will submit.
2. EC: Yes, we have the entity here, [489]; this we have had before; those abilities, those attributes of mind and body, those mental influences and that builded in the experience of the entity that may find expression in the present.
3. In giving that which may be helpful to the entity in the present, first know - as has been indicated - there has been builded in self, in the soul self, that which not only merits but gives the opportunity for expression in materiality. And when and as moved by the soul forces and influences that arise through the intuitive forces of self, through meditation, through prayer, through attuning self to the infinite, that the entity has accorded self with oft, there comes that which finds its expression in ALL the varied manners; whether in verse, song, visualizing for the individual the footsteps - as it were - along the pathway of life that may make for the warnings to those that may err, or those that are wandering, those that are troubling, those that may be fearful, those that are filled with that longing, that seeking for a way, a manner, a channel for giving forth of themselves in some manifested way or manner, that may be the expression of that fullness of joy, fullness of life as if felt in their experience.
4. As the entity has experienced, as the entity will experience in its attempt to find those expressions of activity for others, it is as well to keep those that are full of life, of joy, of the very expressions, as it is to raise those that are low or those that have fallen, or those
489-4 Page 2
that are troubled. For keeping those that are filled with the glory of the light, this will keep the light shining in such ways and manners as to make the pathway brighter for those along the ways of life.
5. How is the manner? Through what channels, through what outlets may these go?
6. First: Let that turning within self be the means, the manner of finding that expression. Be guided not as by self, that "Now I will obtain that for the lover, or for the expression of the flower, or for the expression of the lowly, or for the expression of this or that." But let Him, that IS the light, that has promised to bring to each and every entity, to each and every soul that understanding as from the beginning, be the guide. For, as He has given, "I will bring to thy remembrance that necessary for thyself through me to be the greater channel of blessings to thy fellow man."
7. Then, let that faith, hope and light in Him guide thee. And whether in song, in verse, or in what manner of means it may take, let THIS source of supply be thy energizing influence in thy days and hours of expression. And ye shall find that there will come in many ways those things necessary for this period when the souls of men are being tried, when those strained relations between brothers here and there are so prevalent; those conditions that require that the heart of God even be touched with those callings from those that remain faithful in His day.
8. As to the manner or channel of expression and distribution, then, let it be through all those sources or channels that present themselves as ways, as manners of expression.
9. Specifically find those first as in the Thought of the Day, as may be expressed in what are often thought of as the ligher channels [lighter] or veins, where there may be given first into the home, into the children's hour, the training of others. These are channels for an outlet.
10. Then in the verse that may be compiled, the books that may be written upon various phases of human endeavor.
11. And this should be as the KEYNOTE of thy expression. Not as up from the depths, but rather keeping on an even keel; though the shadows of doubt, though the wars of turmoil, though the hours of strife come, yet keeping on the even keel. THIS should be a book!
12. Ready for questions.
13. (Q) From what source does my inspirational writing come? (A) As has been indicated from the beginning, that of the own soul's development. Seek not through an individual
489-4 Page 3
channel. Let these as thy warnings be. Thou knowest in whom thou hast believed. THOU knowest He is able to keep that which He has committed unto thee, in His promises to thee; for ANY trial, for any emergency, for any expediency that may come into thine experience. Know, then, that self - through His illumination in thine inner self - will bring to thee that necessary. Let the Christ child be thy inspiration, ever.
14. (Q) How may I increase the range and power of this inspiration? (A) Just as has been indicated. The more oft one enters into the attunement, the more easily does there come the power, the purpose, the tone of inspiration. Just as we find expressions in the material life, the greater the purpose of practice in any of the material or physical- mechanical applications of self to that which the inner self has called; as in music, in art, in ANY phase of same. So in the inspiration. The more oft one enters, the easier does this become. Not that the everyday associations are to be cut OFF! Rather do these in thy associations become channels, as marks, as signs that may be used in the very expressions. For, as He has given His as of old, "The day is at hand; the time has been fulfilled in thine development. Now open thyself for a channel."
15. (Q) Should I secure an agent or forward manuscripts direct? (A) The correct sort of an agent makes for a broader field of activity without worriment. But SOON these will be sought rather than the necessity of any agent or forwarding.
16. (Q) What type of work should I give to Wing? [Wing Anderson?] (A) That which is in keeping with its channel or its activity as a channel; to those that think, that meditate along these lines.
17. (Q) Through what channels should I distribute the deeper and more spiritual writings? Please give specific magazines. (A) Those of the higher thought, as one of the older ones in the land - that published in New Hampshire. Those that are of the publishings in the South, the West, the North, the East. These that seek for expressions along these same lines. Specifically; the Sunset, the Outlook, the World's Work, Harper's - any of these. Especially that as first given.
18. (Q) Should I do poems for John Lagatta's drawings? (A) These are inspirational drawings, in the most; and hence lend themselves for such an association.
19. (Q) Should I accept money for my writing? (A) To be sure. These should be for thy gifts to thy fellow man, and remember, as it has ever been said of truth, it is a two-edged sword; giving out one receives, that may
489-4 Page 4
be given in whatever channels as bespeak for thine interest. For the laborer is worthy of the hire.
20. (Q) Should I put the deeper poems in a book at his time? (A) Very soon. This would be well.
21. (Q) To what publisher should I submit this? (A) Those of the better ones; as Holt, [Henry Holt & Co., Inc.] or as those of such KINDRED channels.
22. (Q) Should I illustrate this book myself? (A) This very good.
23. (Q) Should I undertake regular newspaper work besides the poems? (A) Let this be rather a gradual growth, and then consider the Christian Century, and those published in Boston.
24. (Q) If so, what line should be handled in newspaper work? (A) That as may be a consideration along the line of a radio distribution; that is, this would be the line, you see; making for the higher things or higher thoughts as in the news, or the trend of the day to spiritual thought. This should be as a column; and it may be as a columnist activity. The Trend of the Day to Spiritual Thought.
25. (Q) Will it be necessary that I undertake to make my writing bring in a regular income? (A) Not necessary, save as is desired to be used for a regular outlet for a channel of activity.
26. (Q) What specific type of writing can I do that will be of the greatest good for the greatest number of people? (A) As has been indicated, there should be those inspirational sketches, those inspirational poems, and then that book!
27. (Q) Regarding other activities: Should I try to hold the Overbrook property in Philadelphia? (A) By all means.
28. (Q) Should we buy Hattie out? (A) Should!
29. (Q) What are the prospects of the development of this property? (A) Very shortly - that is, within the next eight to nine months - there should be decided improvements in this section and in this activity that would make for wonderful gains.
30. (Q) Could I do any good by entering politics in Sands Point? (A) Go slow here; but let it rather be known among thine associates and thy friends that this would not be out of the question if they see fit to put the entity forward. Let it be done by others, then, rather than by self. For as thou hast always stood between the seeker and that sought, and been a channel, so may ye in ALL thy walks of life; as thou hast in thy spiritual life, as thou hast in thy marital
489-4 Page 5
life, as thou hast in thine mental and social life - be sought and not seeking; be the giver, not the recipient. For as thou givest out, as thou hast expended thyself, so has harmony and joy and peace that has come into thine experience brought thee much. So keep it in thy political life.
