1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [523].
2. As we find, there are some specific disturbing conditions in the physical forces of this body. The effects are at times mistaken for causes; the condition being, as we find, a thickening of tissue in the muco-membrane activity of the abdominal area that produces the greater distress for the body.
3. These, then, are the conditions as we find them with [523], we are speaking of:
4. First, in the BLOOD SUPPLY, we find this is very good, save at periods when there have been those reactions that have been aggravating to the general sympathetic system.
5. When there is such a distress in the body, through the pathological effect upon this nervous system (that is, the sympathetic), there is the general changing of the pulsations, and the natural metabolism of the system is unbalanced through this sympathetic condition; though it may in the course of twenty-four to forty-eight hours change again materially.
6. As to the NERVOUS SYSTEM, here we find the reaction that is the greater cause of the distresses for the body. When there had been those reactions from the activity of the system in producing proper coagulation for the readjustments of the system to conditions that were produced by external activity, the walls of the abdominal area were pinched by the thickened tissue in the left portion of the body - near the descending colon, and that which makes for an activity with the associations of the functioning between the kidneys and the liver. Hence at times these, with the activities of the body when there is cold or too much heat either, bring about a paroxysm of contraction of these tender forces that become exposed by the natural activity of the system in its functioning. This reaction to the sympathetic system is to cause at times a peculiar or unordinary activity in the
523-1 Page 2
kidneys, as to cause for the head, the digestion, the feelings throughout the system as of a trembling or low form of a shock to the system. These are purely reflex, but affecting the nervous system through the ganglia in the coordination between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic at the 4th lumbar plexus, and sympathetically through the connection of same (that is not wholly in accord with the general activity of a normal body) to the solar plexus, or the plexus from the 8th and 9th dorsal that comes to the frontal portion of the body. These are more of the superficial activity than internal, though the CAUSES as we see - arise from the pressures by the thickened tissue in this particular area. These do not remain, but are as cycles of activity in the body.
7. As to the effect of these conditions on the whole general system:
8. In this state of a reflex condition where nominally little or no reactions are seen in the organs of the body save as some spasmodic condition that clears itself from time to time, this makes for rather an uneasiness throughout the whole system, or fear - rather than any pathological condition - making for rather the activity through the nervous systems of the body; and this affects rather the sympathetic organs that function through the activity of same, as it does in the ability to concentrate in the mental activity or to remain as an activity in any one line of thought; as in reading or writing. At times these may last for an indeterminate period; at others make for rather the general nervous condition. It affects also at times the activity of digestive areas, and such relationships in the body.
9. Then, in meeting the needs of the conditions of this body, [523] we are speaking of, as we find, there may be made those applications that will assist the system in adjusting itself in such a way and manner that the circulation may absorb and remove from the body those forces that cause this disturbance in the body.
10. Then, over those areas where there are the reactions from this tautness by thickened tissue (or scar tissue, as it may be called by some; but this is rather thickened tissue in the muco-membrane activity, and is as cords), paint with a mixture of aconite and laudanum; about one-third aconite to two-thirds laudanum, painted over the external portions of the body, you see, over the area in the left portion of body, from hip to about opposite at the base or end of the rib area - the sternum, you see.
11. Then apply over this a saturated solution of Epsom
523-1 Page 3
Salts. These applications would be made only once each day, when there are the distresses; and it should run, of course, over the cerebrospinal area also - not the whole round of the body, but from the umbilicii center beyond the spinal area, over the left portion, you see, and extending to the upper portion of the hip.
12. Make these applications for six to ten times before we would begin a manipulation that will assist these portions of the system to DRAIN, as in eliminations of used forces in any portion of the body.
13. Not well to take properties internally, unless it becomes necessary from excruciating pain. Rather make for activities physically that are in keeping with that impressed upon the body for activity.
14. Be mindful that the diet is such that it keeps eliminations in a nominal way and manner, but tending toward alkalinity for the body at all times; for this will not only prevent infectious forces but will aid in keeping the blood stream in such a manner as to aid in eliminations where absorption is affected by external application.
15. Do this.
16. We would also find that when the manipulations are made osteopathically for drainage, these would not be given too severely in the beginning; neither would they be of too long a duration; that is, not too many of them, but SUFFICIENT to produce DRAINAGES in the abdominal area of the body, [523].
17. Ready for questions.
18. (Q) How often should the manipulations be given? (A) Once or twice a week for six to ten such treatments. Then REST a period and make the applications of those properties as indicated, and by the third or fourth round we should be near to normal.
19. (Q) The external applications should not be continued after the manipulations are started? (A) After manipulations start, and during the period of manipulation, do not apply the external applications.
20. (Q) Would you recommend an osteopath in Miami, Florida? (A) Douglas.
21. (Q) Would it be well to continue to take the medicine to relieve the pain? (A) As indicated, these external applications are to EASE the body - and are so much more applicable to the conditions to be taken externally than internally. And, as far as possible, leave off taking the medicines internally; for, as indicated, there will be periods when it will be necessary to take internal properties, but get these as far apart as possible.
523-1 Page 4
22. (Q) Can this condition that is causing the pain be cured? (A) As indicated, it may be entirely absorbed; if there is patience and persistence in the application of those things that have been indicated here. The aconite and laudanum for application will necessarily have to be compounded from a physician's prescription, and given externally or applied externally; then the application of heat with the saturated solution of Epsom Salts to drive same into these portions that have been and are disturbed by this thickening of the tissue and the pinching. These applications will bring ease to the body, and when drainages are set up in a more extensive way and manner by the manipulations that would be given - as indicated - these would absorb and leave the reactions normal for the body. Hence the condition would be removed, and relieved; removing that which causes the disorder. This is not from infections forces; it is not from any condition that would or could be removed by operative measures; for the tendency was for too great a coagulation of tissue at the time of such measures in the body, and must be absorbed through natural means. See? Do that.
