Time of Reading 4:15 to 4:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., Va.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [538], in regard to the house and lot on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., and its connection with the Definite Contract Bldg. & Loan Ass'n of 314 Main St., cor. Bank, Norfolk, Va. You will give any information, advice and guidance regarding same that will be constructive and helpful at this time; answering the questions that may be asked.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [538], those associations, connections, with the house and lot, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., in connection with Definite Contract Bldg. & Loan Ass'n, 314 Main St., cor. Bank, Norfolk, Va.

3. Now, as we find, as is demonstrated in the actions of the Contract Bldg. & Loan Ass'n, there are very favorable conditions between the buyer and the seller in this connection. And if there is kept the same character of activities as heretofore, making such payments as required, this would eventually be a very good property for developments in this particular portion of the country.

4. As to the abilities of the buyer, these - as we find, while strained at times - should gradually, with the conditions, improve and be able to make those changes or additions necessary for a more comfortable proposition, or abode.

5. As for the abilities of the Contract Co., we find these, as given, in an amiable and a sympathetic condition with the whole activity. As to the reliability of these, as we find, while having had very definite changes in the officers and the individuals that have formulated policies for the organization that make for hardships in some directions for individuals who have been favored by this or that officer in the organization, these - as we find - do not affect in the present the status of the relationships respecting this particular property. And if there are kept those conditions

as indicated, these will be kept intact.

6. Ready for questions.

7. (Q) Are the warnings well-grounded that I have had regarding the Definite Contract being shaky? (A) As indicated, there have been some individuals that have made for very unpleasant comment owing to their change in status, due to the individuals that have changed in their relationships with the Contract Company. As to its validity, or its financial status, it is as good as any of the banks in Norfolk! Keep the payments, and you won't have any trouble!

8. (Q) Would it be easier on us to get it changed into the Government loan company? (A) Would not be but little difference in the payments, and they would not be in Government - with the ones as would be the change; as well as the present situation of status. Neither would they, under the existent conditions, be forced to accept same, unless they had offered or had asked for a sale of same. If there is an offer for the sale, then this might be changed in that manner. If it is necessary to change, or is felt, change for the direct loan; but these will be after another year's payment rather than in the present, for it will make a vast difference in refinancing after paying three years than in paying two years! [10/2/36 She and husband got the loan refinanced with the same firm.]

9. (Q) Please give suggestions as to how we may be better able to meet monthly payments, as we are behind now several months. (A) This has nothing to do with the Definite Contract nor the associations with the body and enquiring mind of [538]. These may come through different channels. As we find, there are considerations of many activities that may be made to meet the emergencies in clarifying the situation, and these would be rather through making - for periods of a definite time - contacts in other cities, places, and not neglecting to carry on the formulation of plans for a better connection in different directions, see? Such activities in Washington, Chicago, Detroit, would make for periods under various conditions that would make for a sufficient amount of interest - added to others' activities to carry for a year, two years, and MORE!

10. (Q) Please advise regarding the water trouble in basement, and best way to meet or remedy same. (A) This is a very unpleasant subject under the existent conditions, for it would require either that all be changed - which would be an expenditure of two or three hundred

538-38 Page 3

dollars in cleansing same, and the ASSURANCE from those who would change that this would be done, and would require at least a year for its performance. Or the changing entirely, which would require the building of other buildings for the heating of the whole plant, you see; this would require an expenditure of some fifteen hundred dollars. Or the automatic pump would require an expenditure of some fifty to sixty-five dollars; this, then, under the circumstance, as we find, is the most plausible or feasible plan though this would require, of course, some definite activities to be taken, but it's the most plausible.

11. (Q) Is there any way we can heat the house with less expense? (A) By changing the heating plant!

12. (Q) Does the damp condition under house cause the condition of walls, or what causes it? (A) The dirt on the walls!

13. (Q) How can we remedy this, or keep it from coming through if painted again? (A) Shellac the walls before painting. Scrape down, shellac, and then paint.

14. (Q) Any other suggestions that will be helpful at this time? (A) Not on this subject.
