Time of Reading 3:30 to 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., Va.
1. GC: You will have before you the bodies and enquiring minds of [578], present in this room, and [1003], of ..., Va., who seek information, advice and guidance as to their material and physical welfare. You will consider especially their desire for a home, and the following possibilities: a. Build a house, plans, of which I hold in my hand, on the lot in Winona. b. Buy the house on Cottage Toll Road which we first considered, before buying the lot in Winona. c. Rent; if so, in what section? d. Stay where we are now living [We are now living with my parents [413] and [289]]; if so, what is the best financial arrangement, board or paying half the expenses? Please give which of these moves would be advisable in the present, considering [1003]'s salary of $44 a week, and the present world conditions. You will then answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the bodies, the enquiring minds, [578] and [1003]; the conditions, the circumstances, world conditions, and the problems.
3. In considering all circumstances, many phases of that which appears in the offing, the desires, the problems, should be taken into consideration.
4. As we find, in some manners the separation from the present environs and surroundings would be most satisfactory, especially when considering the problems of [1958], [Baby daughter]. Yet, when there are the considerations as to the needs of both of these with whom there are the problems, and the surroundings in the home, it becomes a problem of a different sort or nature.
5. Then - with the variations that are to arise in the circumstance, in the conditions in general - as we find it would be the more plausible and practical - for the next two years - to remain in the present environ, all things considered. But pay the board, and not consider the questions of half expense or the like. Not that there is to be the independence that some might consider would be, if

the considerations of boarding were taken on purely a practical basis. For these, as we find, are not in some respects the same nature as would be considered in such circumstance.
6. Put away each month a specified amount toward the home, the lot; and when there IS the selection, we will find it will not be in either of the places considered in the present. [True. They decided on a home in early '43 in another location entirely.]
7. Ready for questions.
8. (Q) Would it be wise to sell the lot in Winona? (A) Hold the lot for one year, then sell.
9. (Q) If the opportunity is offered [1003] would it be wise for him to go into the Navy Yard or stay where he is? (A) That would depend upon the kind of agreement that might be made with the work in Navy Yard; for this, of course, will be only temporary, unless there ARE those agreements that it is to last for such and such a period.
10. (Q) According to his ability in his line of work, is he making the salary he should? (A) This, of course, is dependent upon self's OWN consideration. But use that which is had, and use the abilities for advancements.
11. (Q) Regarding [578]'s physical condition: Would it be wise to have the tonsils removed by Dr. Richardson through finger surgery, or Dr. A. D. Morgan? (A) The finger surgery is more sure. While it requires a little longer, and the expense will be a little more, we find that there will be less disturbances and better conditions in the final results. For, too many shocks to the nervous system will be required through the operative measures with knife; and these are in very poor condition for operative measures of that nature!
12. (Q) After removal of tonsils, would the treatments Dr. Richardson gives for ears correct the deafness? (A) Greater portion of it should be corrected in the treatments indicated by the removal of tonsils through finger surgery. Then, only one and another partial treatment should make normalcy in the hearing.
13. (Q) Would it be well to have the glasses changed? (A) We would not change these until after there has been the completing of the treatments for the throat and tonsils.
14. (Q) Is there any preparation necessary for this finger surgery to be done? (A) Begin, and do it whenever it is the most convenient! The preparations are to first remove the tonsils, and the effect that is created, and give sufficient TIME before the

finger surgery to the Eustachian tubes. [10/10/41 She had tonsils removed at Sarah Leigh Hospital by Dr. A. D. Morgan to whom Dr. M. L. Richardson referred her after his osteopathic trs.]
15. (Q) Is there any advice or suggestion as to the general health of both [578] and [1003]? (A) As we find, with the GENERAL precautions that have been indicated for each, there should be kept - under nominal or normal conditions - a very good health for each.
16. (Q) Is [1958] developing in a normal manner? (A) Developing near to normal manner. We would not alter conditions in the present.
17. (Q) Any other advice or counsel at this time? (A) Again considering those problems of the home, the preparations for the establishing of same:- As has been indicated here, there is being taken into consideration others - more than of self. Do not hold, or have the attitudes of making a sacrifice, or of "playing" at being a helpfulness to others at the expense of self. Rather use the opportunity in and during the period indicated to make that ASSURANCE in the establishing of the home as the better proposition. Make DEFINITE plans for a definite period. This will be more satisfactory than the involvement, and those conditions in many ways in the present home and environ that are to develop during the next two and a half years.
