1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [619].
2. Now, as we find, there are specific conditions of a nature and contributory conditions of another nature that affect the body in such a way and manner in the physical forces as to produce at times greater disturbing factors than at others; while a great deal of the time we find the body experiences rather uneasiness, not disease but dis-ease at times in the physical functioning of organs of the body. Many of these conditions, as we find, are reflex in nature and respond very readily to ANY application that makes for an activity of the particular portion of the body-functioning that is at the time under distress.
3. This indication is that a great deal of the condition is nervousness, yet the very nature of the applications would almost belie that. Hence we find there is rather what may be said to be a complication of disorders in the physical forces of the body, [619], we are speaking of.
4. These, then, are conditions-physical as we find them in the present:
5. The BLOOD SUPPLY we find somewhat disturbed in the metabolism of the system, more from poisons that are as accumulations in portions of the body than from any organic or blood disorder itself. Neither is the disturbance of such a nature as to make even an anxiety in the present as to the heart's activity; though there are some tendencies that should make for precautions that these conditions be CORRECTED, else we may have a period when the subsequent activity would be more in the direction of a disturbance here.
6. In the NERVE SYSTEM, as we have indicated, the disturbing forces that are of the specific nature and that are of a reflex nature disturb the nerve reaction in this body; while it is true that some of the specific conditions that exist are affecting directly ganglia in the cerebrospinal system.
619-1 Page 2
7. To give the better understanding of that which disturbs the body, there would be rather a review of some disorders that have existed in this body of [619].
8. In some times back, there were those things that arose from cold, congestion, after a severe strain in the lower dorsal area, that made for a period of something like the after effects of la grippe, "flu," or intercostal pains across the small of the back - LUMBAGO. The condition had all the earmarks, we might say, of some of all of these; and that produced in the lower dorsal and lumbar area a thickening of tissue about the ganglia, rather than a subluxation - that is, as of the muscular forces being tied. Hence we have had a reaction from same to the kidneys, the bladder at times, that has become quite aggravating. At periods there would be very scant eliminations through the kidney, or the quantity of the urine from same. At others the activity would be rather often, yet scant. This has made for a tendency of accumulations of uremic disorders; not so much as to become distributed throughout the system, but there has been produced rather a STIFFNESS in the lumbar and sacral plexus area; forming sort of a stiffness in the limbs and the lower extremities; at times the feet swelling considerably; the limbs and the knees - and under the knees, and along, in and through the hips, especially in the right portion - giving a great deal of disorder or pain. At times this has passed off as the body went about the activities, or with the taking into the system of something to start eliminations through the alimentary canal; and at some periods before there was a greater distress. But these accumulations have gradually distributed themselves through the circulatory system; however, finding lodgement in varied ganglia centers, and specifically in the 3rd dorsal plexus area, where the activity has been to produce a tendency for the filling up of the impulse of circulation through the bronchi, larynx, and even to the sympathetic muscular forces of the upper portion of the stomach itself; or the hypogastric portion of same affecting the hypogastric and pneumogastric plexus, so that at certain periods there has been the loss of appetite, when nothing tastes exactly right and when with a little eating the stomach soon fills. At other times the effect has been to produce a tendency for a cough, tendency for the lung area opposite from the portion of the plexus disturbed, or through the sternum here in the middle portion of the lung itself in the lower portion, to become disturbed. Not an organic condition, but - as we have indicated - is the effect of eliminations disturbed by cold, congestion, and a filling up of ganglia plexus that
619-1 Page 3
make for pressure as the circulation is carried through portions of the body.
9. Sympathetically this has at times disturbed the sensory system; as the eyes, ears, nose, throat these fill; phlegm easily arises at times in the throat - slow circulation through the nasal cavities or passages, and thus causing a fullness or a tendency to "c-u-h - c-u-h" - with various activities at times in portions of the body. [7/30/34 See GD's letter, in 619-1 Reports.]
10. These produce the effect of an activity that causes fullness, or flush of blood to the face, neck and throat, giving a repression in the circulation to this portion of the body.
11. As to the ORGANS themselves disturbed by these conditions, the reactions are only sympathetic; and we find most of these, therefore, are subject - through nerve reaction - to the conditions that have existed from poisons in the system by accumulations, and a form of lesion in the last dorsal and upper lumbar plexus. Hence we have a pulsation that changes at time; fullness in the throat and lungs, yet none of these are organically involved. As given, warnings should be heeded respecting the heart's action, that the activities of the digestive system are such that those periods of congestion do not take place; yet the activities of the liver, spleen, pancreas, and throughout the jejunum, are very good when we consider the conditions that have existed.
12. Rather then, with the warnings heeded as to the corrections, these conditions may be MATERIALLY eliminated FROM the system. First we would begin as this:
13. For periods of three to four days at a time, allowing two or three days to elapse between each period, we would of mornings take nothing for breakfast save either lemon juices or grapefruit juices.
14. During such periods, in the middle of the morning, between the breakfast and lunch periods, there may be taken any of those things that may aid in producing a SATISFYING of the tendency for the desire of food in the pit of the stomach.
15. But such periods of the citrus fruit juices are to produce an alkalinity, so that when there is taken into the system those properties that will react to the activities of the body-physical they may be easily eliminated without strain on any of those portions of the body that have caused plethora to form in ganglia along the cerebrospinal system.
16. After about ten days, then begin with deep manipulations osteopathically given, especially in the lumbar and lower
619-1 Page 4
dorsal area. To be sure, COORDINATE the activities through the upper dorsal and cervical, but DO NOT fail to make corrections and the adjustments in the lumbar and lower dorsal area! And in each treatment it would be better to begin in these areas, rather than in the cervical or upper dorsal areas, and then work up.
17. Also when we begin with the osteopathic manipulations for the distribution and the relaxation of the muscular forces in the portions of the body, we would return at that time to the normal meals for the body, you see; and after each meal take a quarter teaspoonful of ALCAROID in two glasses of water - that is, dissolve the powder in a little water at first, then add a full glass of water, and afterwards drink another full glass of water.
18. After the ALCAROID has been taken for five or six days, then for TWO DAYS - about two hours after each meal - take two Caroid Bile Salts tablets; two tablets about two hours after EACH MEAL for two whole days!
19. And the body will feel different; it will sleep well, and it'll get over this tiredness that comes; the cough that has disturbed the body at times will be eliminated, also the headaches and the tendency for tiredness throughout the whole body; and the body will be near normal.
20. Do that.
21. The osteopathic treatments would be taken about three times a week; and there should be at least fourteen such treatments and adjustments.
22. Ready for questions.
23. (Q) During the periods when the lemon and grapefruit juice is being taken for breakfast, what should the other meals consist of? (A) Just normal; just what the body has been used to eating. But keep to those foods that are nearer to the alkaline reacting; no heavy meats, never any greases - beware of too great amount of condiments; and we will find the conditions will be greatly improved.
24. (Q) Is cigarette smoking causing coughing spells? Is it harmful? (A) Cigarette smoking in moderation is not harmful; in excess it is harmful. Of course, under the present conditions, irritations often arise from cigarette smoking; but when the conditions are corrected, moderation in anything is not harmful - most times beneficial.
