Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., Va.
1. HLC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [658], present in this room, together with her work in preparing two dyes for the hair, one for brown hair and one for black hair. You will answer the questions which I will ask you regarding this entity's compounds and plans for presenting and distributing them. If the attunement for this Reading will in any way affect Edgar Cayce adversely, you will please say, "This may not be given."
2. EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind, [658], present in this room.
3. As we find, these preparations may be prepared rather easily.
4. As to the manufacture and distribution, this necessarily requires other attunements.
5. In the preparation for the black dye, this may be made so that it is not injurious in any way to the hair - provided it has not been HEATED too often. For, where there has been the drying so much with heat, this tends to cause the hair to split - with any dye used. But as we find, with the normal development and care of the hair, this may materially aid in preserving the color.
6. We find that both of these should be vegetable compounds, but so prepared that they are not sticky and will not cause any adverse condition with the scalp by their use.
7. For preparing the black dye - we would use the walnut base - the hull of the black walnut. Put his in distilled water and reduce - by hydrometer test - to point three, - that is, one point above three.
8. Then, to this add a distillation of sage - this to be distilled at two twenty (220), or the heat kept at that point, so that the distillation carries with same the effect of the sage, yet without leaving any vegetable force as to become sticky.
9. As this is distilled, then, to each quart of the dye from

the walnut development, add one ounce; and one pint of Bay Rum.
10. In preparing the dye for brown hair - use the bark from the red oak root - this to be, however, from the root, but the large root. Do not attempt to use white oak, post oak, black jack, but only the red oak, see?
11. Reduce this with the distilled water until the hydrometer test is point 2.
12. Then to this add a distillation of coffee. Use the bean that has been parched, to be sure. THIS distillation is to be at two twelve (212) to two sixteen (216); not above 216. This would be added to the oak solution; one-half pint to one quart; and one pint and a half of the Bay Rum to the quart.
13. These as we find will produce, in MOST of the hair, the proper shades of brown and black.
14. To be sure, test same on NATURAL hair in switches or the like.
15. These as we find will produce correct color, be as a beneficial tonic even to the scalp, and will need only to be combed through the hair; but will necessitate using ONLY pure bone combs for same.
16. Ready for questions.
17. (Q) Would it make any difference as to time of year in gathering the bark from the oak tree root? (A) Not so much difference. To be sure, the walnut - ONLY gather it just before it is ripe, or as it falls - not shaken or taken off the tree, but as it falls.
18. (Q) Any suggestions at this time regarding the distribution of these products? (A) As indicated, there should be some judgment used by self. This would require a different attunement.
19. (Q) Please give any other information that may be of help at this time? (A) We are through for the present. Copy to Self " " Ass'n file le
