1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [703] present in this room.
2. Now, as we find, there are disturbing conditions that prevent the better physical functioning of the body. While the disturbances in the present only become acute at times, if these were corrected now we would find the body much relieved from those conditions that continue to make for disorders and disturbances that are more or less active in the forces of the body and become acute at times.
3. These conditions, as we find, are rather of a specific nature, causing infectious forces that - lodging in the system in the form of poisons - disturb the circulation, disturb the various organs in their functions, disturbing even the locomotion in the extremities at times, and bringing a form of disorder that even disturbs the abilities of the body to rest or to recuperate - thus producing insomnia.
4. Then, these are conditions as we find them with this body, [703] we are speaking of, present in this room:
5. From the conditions in the BLOOD STREAM we find there are indications of infectious forces being predominant, thus causing the eliminations to become of such a nature as not to cleanse the system - and they form in the blood supply a metabolism that even at times makes for shortness of the breath, especially when climbing steps, walking hills, or any activity that makes for an unusual amount of the fluxing of the muscular forces across those portions from which, as we find, the infections emanate, producing in the blood supply even at times some temperature, so that we would find there are periods when there is that temperature above normal; not as malarial condition, yet causing - in the effect - that quite akin to just such conditions. For strept DOES appear in the blood at times.
703-1 Page 2
6. In the NERVOUS SYSTEM, especially in the cerebrospinal, we find there are specific conditions that are existent that are abnormal. These, however, are rather produced by other disturbances than causing or producing the disturbance. Hence we find there exists in the area of the 6th and 7th and 8th dorsal a form of lesion that has arisen from pressures created in the torso portion of the body, that has prevented the whole impulse for the circulation becoming effective through the area of the gall ducts and lacteal ducts, the caecum, and to those specific conditions that we find that cause the disorder. These also, through the sympathetic reflexes from this condition, cause a poor circulation through the head, when there is the attempt of the body even to rest; such that it becomes weary, tired, with a dull headache, burning through the eyes, the mouth becomes dry, there is a tendency for the accumulation of a white froth for the mouth. This is from a poor circulation through these portions of the system, HINDERED by the reflexes from the subluxations in the dorsal area and in the cervical also that produce a contributory cause to the accumulations that disturb in the mouth.
7. While there are teeth that need local attention, these are effects rather than causing the disorders in the system.
8. As to the ORGANS of the body themselves:
9. Brain forces are very good.
10. The activities to the sensory organism, through the fluxes, cause at times an accentuation in the activity of the sympathetic to the organs of the sensory body, as a body; in the head, and the activities to the throat and to the circulation through that portion of the system; so that we have fullness felt at times in the ear - not so much as a hindering in the hearing, for it becomes accentuated and keen, while at others there is a dullness and a tickling or drumming produced there. Again we have the effects as indicated to the eyes, the taste even at times - those things do not seem to be as acute as at other times; and at others odors are very offensive to the body that should not ordinarily have been even noticed by the body. These do not always occur, but - as indicated - are the effect of reflex conditions, and are only as an indication of that being given, that these arise from specific conditions that we find causing or producing these toxic forces in the body.
11. The lungs, bronchi and larynx, these are very good when we consider the circulation being disturbed; though we feel a fullness there at times.
12. Heart's action as indicated.
13. The digestive system, in the stomach proper - we find
703-1 Page 3
there are periods when the body without eating appears to have a full stomach. Then there are periods when there is an excess of an appetite, yet nothing seems to taste or to appear to satisfy just as it once did. No disturbance in the stomach proper, but in the lower portion of the digestive area, or in the ascending colon do we find the greater disturbances. Not that these do not disturb the digestion, for with the regurgitation there are tendencies for the activity of a superacidity in the system; not always but at times, indicated as it is in the present by the activities where there may be called the stomach gases form, with the anti-acid conditions in the mouth, and make for sores or cold sores, it may be termed, on the lips or in the mouth. This is really an acid condition as in excess with the alkali through the lymph circulation in the mammary glands and in the ducts for the system that produces same.
14. We find also these at times make for the condition through the lachrymal ducts, so that the body becomes easily affected by sympathetic conditions and by cold or wind, by those things that would cause others to have mirth - they will cause tears for this body.
15. In the area then as indicated do we find the disturbing factors; an engorgement in the ascending colon. Not a prolapsus here, but rather a tendency toward prolapsus in the descending colon. Not that the eliminations do not at times appear to be sufficient, but these pressures in these areas disturb the ducts of the glands of assimilation, disturbing the liver, the spleen, the pancreas in their activity, making for rather a cold hepatic circulation. This again is manifested in the manner in which it affects the kidneys or the bladder in its activity. There will be at periods a sparse activity from the kidneys, but more often than ordinary. There will be others when there is the excess, or when there is produced in the clitoris a burning sensation as of the acidity from the system, or the acidity of the urea itself makes for an irritation to the system. This is produced by that pressure which is affected and at times affects the functionings of the liver, the kidneys, and their co-circulation through these portions of the body.
16. Then, to bring about the normal conditions for this body, as we would find, the greater portion of these corrective measures may be applied by self without the aid of others, though there should be at least six to ten OSTEOPATHIC adjustments and manipulations made for the body. But begin first with this:
17. First we would apply the Castor Oil packs across the liver and the caecum area, and - of course - across those
703-1 Page 4
portions of the ascending colon on the right side. Use at least three to four thicknesses of heavy flannel, wrung out of Castor Oil as warm as the body can stand. When these are applied every three days, at least, or every third day, we would make at least two applications each time; that is, as the cloth cools or becomes cold, wring it out of the hot Castor Oil and apply again.
18. After the third or fourth application of the packs, begin with Fletcher's Castoria in very small doses; quarter to half a teaspoonful every hour until the quantity from two whole bottles has been taken. This will take almost two days, or two periods of the waking hours. Of course, don't sit up to take it, but the body will sleep when it's being taken, too! No matter if the bowels do become the more active, for we must eliminate these conditions.
19. After the second day that the Castoria is taken, take a high enema - using a colon tube. In the water used for the enema, use for each gallon a level teaspoonful of salt and a heaping teaspoonful of baking soda, well dissolved in tepid water - not too hot, not cold at all, but tepid, near the temperature of the body. It will be found with the use of this that considerable mucous will be evacuated from the system, even after the eliminations have been produced by the oil packs and the Castoria.
20. When this is accomplished, we would then have one day of rest; then begin with the osteopathic adjustments and the treatments. The adjustments should be made in the dorsal areas as indicated, and - of course - throughout the cervical areas; not so much the adjustments as the manipulations and the alleviating of those conditions.
21. Throughout these periods of applications be mindful that there is kept a tendency towards the alkalin foods, rather than those that make for an overacidity.
22. For those conditions that make for irritations from the bladder or uterus, we find that it would be well that a douche be taken once or twice a month - for the alleviating of the itching and the irritation that appears AT TIMES. In such a douche it would be better to use, to a quart of water a tablespoonful of Glyco-Thymoline - and anti-acid activity for the system, see?
23. Those conditions in the limbs will be removed by the manipulations, but it would be well for the body - after all of these are taken - to have occasionally the colonic, or the high enemas - though these may be taken by self if taken in the order as given. Occasionally take these, and rub down well (this may be done by self also) through the hips, across the small of the back, with a combination of THIS -
703-1 Page 5
down the whole of the limbs even to the feet, and especially through the burses of the heel, the instep, and the arches of the feet, and across all these portions:
24. To 4 ounces of Russian White Oil, or Usoline, or Nujol, add: Witchhazel..............................2 ounces, Oil of Wintergreen....................1/4 ounce, Oil of Cedar (Cedar wood, not Cedar nut oil)...........1/2 ounce, Coal Oil, or Kerosene...................1 ounce. Shake these together before they are applied to the body. Pour only sufficient into an open saucer or shallow container that will be absorbed by the body, but rub this well - especially into the sacral portion of the body; that is, across the hips, down the limbs, along the sciatic nerve and under the knees, around the knee cap, around the ankle, around the feet. Doing this about three times - two to three times a month will keep the body supple, will keep the activities of the system normal, and overcome the conditions that we find disturbing the body; bringing for the body a different outlook upon the life, [703].
25. Ready for questions.
26. (Q) Will this treatment relieve the insomnia? (A) As given, when we relieve these pressures, the acidity, the disturbing forces to the sympathetic nerve system, it will relieve the insomnia.
27. (Q) What is causing the irritation behind right ear, and what will heal same? (A) With these manipulations, with these applications as given, as we remove the poisons from the system and the circulation becomes more in order with the replenishing and rebuilding, the condition will be removed. Do not make LOCAL applications for same, as this will only irritate the condition.
28. (Q) What is cause of head noise or cracking sound in ears? (A) As given. Do these things as we have suggested, being very positive in the attitudes throughout.
29. (Q) What diet? (A) As given, beware of ACID-producing foods; that is, beware of any white bread. Eat a good deal of potato peeling - that is, like the baked Irish potato - but not any quantity of the pulp. Do not use quantities of red meats. Preferably for meats use fish, fowl or lamb - any of these may be taken in moderation. Or an outline for the diet
703-1 Page 6
would be in this manner, but this does not mean just this diet alone - to be sure: Mornings - citrus fruit juices, or the stewed fruits without any quantity of sugar in same - but not at the same meal; neither at the same meal should be cereal taken. Any of these maybe taken for the morning meal, separate from one another, provided not quantities of sugar are put on same. Cream may be used, or if sweetening is desired - for all the sweetening use honey, and honey in the honeycomb. Coddled eggs maybe added as a portion of the first meal. Let one meal each day, whether morning, noon or night, consist of raw fresh vegetables; as tomatoes, lettuce, celery, spinach, peppers, radish, carrots, any of these. Slaw, from cabbage - both the white and red. Any of these will be found well, or they may be combined together and used with an oil or salad dressing. The other meal should consist of well-cooked vegetables (and, when meats are taken use those suggested above); and have more that grow above the ground than below the ground. That is, have at least three of the leafy vegetables to one below the ground, or with the leafy vegetables there may be one or two of the bulbous nature - as squash, beans, peas, etc., and onions maybe considered among these (but eat these only well-cooked, not raw).
30. (Q) In applying the Castor Oil packs, about how long a period should they be kept on each time? (A) After they have grown cold to the body, take them off and - as given - at each period make TWO applications, see? When the body is massaged off (because this is a quite greasy task, you see), it would be well that soda water be used on the skin - and it will be found, even from this, that poisons will show in the character of the cleansing of the body - it'll be somewhat yellow! Do these, and we will make a normal, healthy body.
31. We are through for the present. Copy to Self " " Ass'n file (See letter [which was enclosed] to Osteopath. The other treatments should be clear so you may do them yourself; if not, let us know. Let us keep in touch with you, anyway. GD.)
