This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of David E. Kahn, 44 West 77th St., Apt. 14-W, New York City, this 28th day of April, 1936, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [...], new Associate Member of the Ass''n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [903].

R E A D I N G

Born March 10, 1914, in New York City. Time of Reading 11:50 to 12:35 A. M. Eastern Daylight Savings Time. N.Y.C. (Life Reading Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the record here of that entity now called [1189]; giving those relationships with the universal forces that are latent and manifested in the entity in the present.

2. About the entity we find unusual characters, that may be called hieroglyphics. We find jade as combined with pearls unusual in their effect upon the entity, especially in moods. For the entity finds its experience as being at times with unseen or unusual influence of vibrations about the entity. These would be helpful, then, to be about the entity when seeking to give expression of that which is either felt in the emotional self or for the accomplishing of same. Not as influences that would be called charms, but rather the vibrations of certain characters of stones, or the certain combinations as indicated in the pearl - which HAS been produced by irritations. Hence the ability to build resistances is a natural influence that comes about same, and not as a talisman for preventing this or that - but that the vibrations created make for same.

3. In giving the interpretation of that which we find has been the record of the entity's experience, recorded upon the skein of that ye call time and space, we find:

Those things that arise as innate influences from sojourns of the entity in the environs about the earth, that some call astrological forces, are as indications of the developments of the entity; not that they PRODUCE an influence other than that which may be controlled by the application of self regarding experiences or circumstances that arise in the activities.

5. That given, then, is that which will be helpful, hopeful. For ever is it apparent, ever will it be the experience of the entity, that it is not by knowledge nor even by power

alone that activities may come; but it is what one does about that one knows in relationships to one's fellow man, in MAKING for the expression of that which is held as the ideal in the experience of the entity.

6. Hence know first self, even as may be given as a portion or an inkling of its experiences through the earth, through the environs there, through the associations of the universal forces; that may indicate, then, that which is to be met, that which is to be used, that which is to be applied in the experience to become more helpful, more hopeful in the activities of the entity.

7. In Mercury's influence we find the high SENSITIVENESS of the entity in its MENTAL capacities. These very sensitivenesses at times make for the feelings, as it were, of those influences about the entity that often produce timidity; fear that arises from those very influences. Yet it should be known within self that if there is the holding to the influence that must be as the ideal, all lesser influences become of none effect. For as it has been expressed and given by others, know that when self is giving of the best of self in expression, those forces from the CREATIVE ENERGIES themselves are upon thy side; then who may be against thee?

8. We find from Jupiter the influence in which the associations must ever be among masses, classes; yet individual in the aspect of the entity's relationships. For it makes for that influence wherein the entity pours out self in its expression of that which motivates it in its ACTIVITY for giving expression of the emotions, the purposes, the aims, the desires within self. And if the motivative force arises from NOT self-exaltation but that the beauties of the expressions may be from the Creative Forces, it makes for that which OVERCOMES the influences about that would hinder in any way or manner.

9. For from the activities in the earth, from those sojourns in the environs about same, there is the natural tendency for the expression of the artist itself, in voice, in song, in the activities of making for the arousing within individuals or groups of that which harkens to the still small voice within that prompts the individual to determine, to desire to create within itself that which will produce in the experience of its associations with others the more hopeful, the better forces.

10. This is the mission of the entity, then, in the earth's experience in the present; to give expressions in such a way and manner as to arouse these.

11. Yet as is felt within the experience, as is or may be

known, unless these arise from the very soul of the self, as it were, they cannot be created in the experiences of others.

12. Then, know self. Know self's desire; and let it be that which is an exemplification of that set as an ideal, and not of an individual. Rather the Creative Forces that MOTIVATE activities in individual's experience.

13. In Venus we find the love influence, the beauty, the art; expressions of the higher forces and influences in the experiences of others. Yet, as has been indicated, remember that upon the reverse or inverse of an activity, there is the very thin veil - that may exalt, may debase if applied in a selfish or in a manner for self-glorification.

14. Let the glorification of self be rather the result of having accomplished in thine experiences and thine associations the beauties that make for bringing into materialization the love that the Father, the Creative Force, God, has manifested and does manifest in activities of individuals.

15. Become, then, a channel of blessings to others, and thus may the beauties of the HEAVENLY forces - as may be expressed in such - be thine very own. Beauty for Beauty's sake. Love that it may be the manifestations of not bodily emotions but rather those that show forth HIS activity in and among men.

16. For the Lord in His temple in thee meets thee there. Meditate upon those activities that may be motivative by the desires of the INNER self, rather than the glorification of the material self.

17. Thus does the material self become glorified even as the experiences in the earth will show the activities in which there have come those forces that made for an experience in same to the joy, to the aid, to the hope created in thine own activity.

18. As to the appearances in the earth, then, and those that influence the entity in the present, we find:

19. As we as individuals apply the self in a given direction there is a growth, there is a greater understanding; thus opening for self other experiences that must be met. For did He not give, "Heavens and the earth may pass, but my law, my word, shall remain"? And each soul must pay every whit - in what? In the knowledge, in the understanding that as ye mete it must be meted to you.

20. Keep the faith.

21. The experience before this, then, we find was in those periods when there were the beginnings - as it were - in the land of the present nativity - of the trainings that came

with the experiences of individuals with the unusual abilities, or the unusual voice activity.

22. The entity then, in the name Carol Cowles, made for an experience that followed closely in the activities of that entity that aroused first the peoples of the land of nativity to the beauty of the voice in its creating in individuals' activity emotions that arouse them to their ABILITIES in their better selves. Thus did the entity accomplish; among those not of high estate, but what may be termed the mediocre, or those that were seeking themselves for the better expression.

23. The entity brought to itself and to others an advancement, a development, that in the experience may some day be termed as the awakening of the artist's influence in the lives of the peoples as a whole; the joy of the USE of self in quieting, in making for harmonious experiences; bringing the vibrations of harmony in the lives of others.

24. Hence as we will find, the lullaby, the expressions that represent periods in the experiences of individuals as they vary in their stages of development, from the first awakenings in the early age or early periods of the individual to those periods when awakened by love in their own activity, in the creating of forces in their own bodies for the expressions of life, or for the heydey of life when joy is found in the experiences. All of these as an activity may be a portion of the ENTITY'S experience in the present, if there is but found that there is a real motivative purpose from CREATIVE Forces in its activity.

25. Before that we find the entity was in the land (among those that influence in the present) known as the Grecian.

26. There the body, the ENTITY in a body, as represented in Xerxes, made for the first applications of those influences and forces that brought not merely the singsong of those representing the conditions in the experiences of individuals but especially those in the relationship of the home with the greater activities in the state.

27. The entity then as a sculpturess, as a songstress, made for beauty and harmony that brought oft DETERMINING forces in self and yet made for experiences that in the present create a fear.

28. For as the entity in those experiences sought to give expressions of those things that rose above the bodily emotions and rather to the spirit and soul of things, these became and came at the period when there was an activity that brought or created a fear.

29. Yet if the entity will hold to the ideal in the present this fear may be eliminated. Know that those forces that

arise from self as a manifestation alone of self bring fear; but the expression, the living of those forces that motivate the acts in those periods that are being depicted or expressed by the entity, by the self, rises above those things that would make afraid.

30. For if He be upon thy side, who can be against thee?

31. Before that we find the entity was in the lands known now as the Persian and Arabian, in those periods when there were the inroads made by the nomads or the roving peoples upon the schools of the Persian land.

32. The entity was among those who came under the periods of destructive forces to the PHYSICAL structure of the school, yet later when there were the establishings of the teachings in the 'city in the hills and the plain' the entity gave forth in those activities that make for the influence of the vibrations from jade and pearls in the experience in the present.

33. For as these brought healing through the very associations and activities, creating in the physical experience and making for the impression upon the inmost forces of the bodily force then, we find these come as a HELPFUL influence by the very atmosphere of vibrations created by the emanations.

34. For each and every atomic force throws off a vibration to which a sensitive soul becomes aware. Not always aware as to its source or its activity; but as both of these in the experience made for an activity or an active force, thus may they bring help not only of a healing nature but in becoming a hopeful, HELPFUL force in the experience of the entity.

35. Then known as Ester.

36. In the application of those experiences, the entity in that sojourn came to know - through the application of self - how helpful forces were brought into the experience of many.

37. So may it in its application of its abilities, of its talents that have been builded throughout its sojourns in the earth, become as a helpful force in the experiences of others in the present.

38. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Atlantean, during those periods when there was the second breaking up of the land, through the applications of the forces from within to the activities of the elements upon the very land's force itself; the PEOPLES making for that as brought destructive forces into the experiences of others.

39. The entity then was among the peoples of the Law of One,

as compared with the peoples of Beelzebub (?) and those that made for the personal gratification of those desires within the body for power, for self-exaltation, for self-glorification.

40. Oft the entity was pulled between two ways, for the BODILY affections were close to those that were of the other peoples.

41. Hence it was oft torn between the two, or there were conflicting forces in the experience of the entity through that sojourn. Yet by the very power of its individual duty the entity held aloof from the closer associations.

42. Thus we will find in the experiences in the earth in the present, there will be periods when such conflicting emotions for the very activities of self, the very associations with individuals, will bring those experiences in the very sojourn, the very application of the knowledge, the very application of understanding in the experience of the entity.

43. AGAIN may it be said, hold fast to that which is set as thy ideal. Necessary at times to make for sacrifices within the material self that the soul may grow, but know that each impulse, each activity in thy experience HAS its place in thy development, as to the choice thou dost make. THESE be the things that make for the directing forces.

44. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:

45. Who would give, who would interpret as to what height the entity might attain in its ability to bring to its fellow men hope, hope in THEIR abilities as individuals to express beauty, joy, love, by the very pouring out of self in that manner in song, in the manner of activity, in that manner of expression of the glories, the beauties of not SELF-indulgences, not self-glorifications, but rather of the harmonies of joy, the harmonies of hope, the harmonies of expectancy in the LAWS of love and harmony and joy and longsuffering and patience and persistence in HOLDING to the beauties of the GLORIOUS forces that are manifested among the children of men!

46. Depend then only upon what thou dost desire, what thou would have AS thine ideal!

47. Let the beauty of song, the beauty of art, the beauty of expression be not as thy GOD, but as a channel through which the GLORY of thy LORD, thy God, may be made manifest.

49. (Q) Should I continue my voice studies? (A) What a question, with what has been the experience! By all means!

Hold fast to that in giving the expressions of those influences ESPECIALLY as indicated. To some it is given to express the joy of nature. To this entity is given the abilities to give expression of the EMOTIONS of the SOULS of individuals! And THESE create within others the hope, the joy. Follow, then, in those things, in those experiences that such characterizations in song, in expression, may be given to the emotions that are of the CREATIVE natures; not that are of self-indulgences but of CREATIVE forces!

50. (Q) Any other talents that should be developed? (A) Anything that pertains to art and art's expression. Those things particularly in those very associations of stones and their vibrations may be as a portion of self; knowing the vibrations, the EFFECT of vibrations of stones and their wearing of same upon the bodies of others. This will not only be interesting, but will make for abilities within self to know others.

51. (Q) Is it best for me to live alone? (A) Rather there should be PERIODS of this, and not as a REGULAR thing. ORDERLY in all things. For as has been expressed, let everything be done in ORDER, in understanding. And as periods come for a greater activity, there will be - as indicated - the necessity of individual expression, but to the many.

52. (Q) Advise me regarding the proper surroundings for the greatest opportunity for spiritual and mental development. (A) These have been given in the various experiences. From these choose. As has been seen, a lowly experience as well as one in which there were all the glories that were of a secular force that brought healing forces, and the GLORIES of the Creative Energies. Hold FAST to that thou heareth within. Oft the mighty waters give expression within self as the roaring of same, as the effect of rain, as the effect of moisture, as the effect of mighty waters upon the inner self. These as surroundings, these as quietudes, only create the ENVIRONMENT. But of self, NOT as sufficient unto self, but as self seeking to know the greater expression, may find quiet even among the turmoils and strifes. But oft take thyself aside to those of nature's beauties, as thou hast seen in the various activities in various experiences of lands of various climes. These, too, bring to the abilities of self the giving of expression to the various emotions that arise under varied climes, varied environs.
