Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., Virginia. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes.

2. As we find, conditions continue to be rather serious. There is so little resistance, yet so much tendency for the system to produce congestion and for the poisons to induce the temperature in the system.

3. In the present, we would sponge the body with lukewarm water, especially along the lower portion of the abdomen, across the back; and then between the shoulders and across the abdomen and small of back massage gently with grain alcohol. This will reduce temperature.

4. Put Soda Packs over the abdomen; two tablespoonsful of baking soda to a pint of water - cold water - tap water. Wring cloths out in this and put over abdomen.

5. Give the strengthening effect of the eggnog made without the alcohol; or burn whiskey (good whiskey) and then make the eggnog with that burned. DO NOT light same other than with paper.

6. Use beef juices.

7. Also use enemas; these cool, not cold but cool - about the temperature of ninety-four, the water. Use these rather than cathartics.

8. But we MUST reduce the temperature.

9. The colon should NOT be irritated, nor the liver and duodenum, as yet.

10. Do these for the present.

11. (Q) Should the gelatin and broths be taken in her present condition? (A) These are very good, but beef juices and fruit juices, or especially fresh grape juice; not grape juice that has been bottled but fresh grape juice. These are preferable to others. A little gelatin, yes, or blanc mange, or those of such natures.

12. (Q) What causes the chills? (A) The temperature!

13. (Q) Should she begin to take the second series of

1409-2 Page 2

purgatives tomorrow, as outlined, or is she strong enough? (A) As has been given, not until we have allayed the temperature. These conditions are serious, and if there hasn't been had a relief of the temperature by morning - they'd better have the physician's care!

14. (Q) Please give any other advice needed right at this time. (A) Of course, a little Aspirin or Aspironal may be given in the evening to make for the allaying of temperature, after these others have been applied as indicated. But precautions must be taken when or if same is given, that while the body is not kept too warm it does not become chilled owing to the perspiration that may be produced. But massage every hour with the grain alcohol until there is a reduction of the fever, and keep up the Soda Packs over the abdomen. And every day or twice a day give an enema to aid in the reduction. But these conditions should be changed before the next twenty-four hours, or much change may be expected!
